Teagan Croft (The Osiris Child) will star as Jessica Watson in Sarah Spillane’s True Spirit, set to begin filming for Netflix later this year.
Adapted from Watson’s memoir of the same name, the story details the then 16-year-old’s 2010 journey to become the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around the world.
Filming will take place in both Sydney and Queensland, but predominantly in the latter, where it is being backed by Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.
Spillane (Around the Block), who has been attached to direct the project since 2015, penned the script with Cathy Randall, and will also executive produce with Shahen Mekertichian (Lion) for Sunstar Entertainment, and Brent Emery and Suzanne Farwell for Resonate Entertainment.
Netflix announced it was boarding the project in July last year.

You may know him as Hercules, Emmett Cullen, or even Tarzan, but recently actor Kellan Lutz has been bringing other memorable characters to life in a string of intriguingly imaginative movies. After playing Sy Lombrok in the ambitious sci-fi film The Osiris Child, Lutz channels his inner Indiana Jones for the spider-centric 7 Guardians of the Tomb. With the adventure horror movie out now in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD platforms via Gravitas Ventures, we recently caught up with Lutz to discuss reteaming with Kelsey Grammer after working together on The Expendables 3, experiencing spider pranks on set, and his dislike of cockroaches.
Like your character in 7 Guardians of the Tomb, I'm not exactly fond of spiders, so I could relate to a lot in this movie. I found it intriguing that you were playing this Indiana Jones-type character with a haunted past. When you first got the script,...

Review by Cary Paller
Here is the perfect example of what Hollywood excels in and what they lack. When The Osiris Child first started all I could think of underachieving Sci-Fi films like “The Last Starfighter” and “Enemy Mine“. It felt underdeveloped and sort of like a TV movie. But, as the story began to move forward I started to become engaged in the characters, locations and SFX.
Writer/Director Shane Abbess and Co-Writer Brian Cachia crafted a similar yet fresh approach to the futuristic Earth on it’s last leg plot. At first I did feel like I was for a cheap TV movie knock off. What do I mean by that? A low budget film shot with limited quality SFX that was going to edit like they did not have a line dialog in mind. But, to my surprise the film grew on me more and more with each act.

Where did this film come from?! I finally caught up with a sci-fi feature called The Osiris Child, originally titled Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child in full. This film is way, way, way better than it should be, and left me totally blown away. It's not perfect by any means, but it is extremely impressive storytelling, with some cool ideas I have never seen before in any film. I can't speak for others who don't like it, but I can say this is exactly the kind of sci-fi I love. It's remarkably ambitious storytelling on a galactic scale, created on a minimal budget, utilizing some sleek filmmaking tricks that actually make this successful. The world building (or rather, universe building) in this rivals Luc Besson's Valerian, and in all honesty, upon first viewing I actually like this more than Valerian. I really, really enjoyed it - but...

Sy Lombrok (Kellan Lutz) is an escaped convict, Kane Sommerville (Daniel MacPherson) is an alcoholic lieutenant. They don't really get along, but they both have only hours to get off the planet before it's obliterated in the new sci-fi action film The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One. An ambitious sci-fi story that retains an epic scope without losing sight of its character-centric sensibilities, The Osiris Child is now out on VOD and Digital HD from Rlj Entertainment, and Daily Dead recently had the chance to speak with actor Kellan Lutz about his intriguing role, working with director Shane Abbess, visiting a real prison to prepare to play his character, and much more.
How did this movie come onto your radar, and what attracted you to the character of Sy Lombrok? He is a really intriguing character.
Kellan Lutz: Well, I met Shane Abbess about five years ago...

New to Streaming: ‘Dawson City: Frozen Time,’ ‘Marjorie Prime,’ ‘Lady Macbeth,’ ‘Landline,’ and More
With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Abundant Acreage Available (Angus MacLachlan)
Faith-based cinema is as diverse a genre as there is, from the extreme, often violent portraits of devotion from established directors like Martin Scorsese and Mel Gibson, to the attacks on logic in the God’s Not Dead and Left Behind pictures. Angus MacLachlan, a great storyteller of the not-too-deep south, offers a nuanced example of what this genre can bring, returning with the moving Abundant Acreage Available.

It’s been almost one full year since Shane Abbess’ Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest late September 2016. We recently caught up with Shane to talk about his film. We discussed everything from production design to music to the economy of the film, notably the team’s efforts getting shots both done in budget in a timely manner. However, aside from a handful of scenes, you’d expect that he had the luxury of resources to build this fascinating world.

If you wanted to talk like a cynic you could say that The Osiris Child looks like another Us vs. Them kind of sci-fi movie. There is definitely the appearance of an elite sect that watches over the rest of the colony that lies below, at ground level, and their decisions seem based upon the “greater good” versus the downfall of order and the inclusion of chaos. In truth it looks like another version of Elysium, but fought with the intent to save those on the ground rather than displace those in the sky. So let’s let go of the

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming sci-fi action film, The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One. I'm not really sure about that weird subtitle, but the movie looks pretty good! I'm a sucker for sci-fi, though, even the low budget sci-fi stuff like this. There are some pretty cool visuals to check out in the trailer!
The movie was shot in Australia and the cast includes Kellan Lutz, Isabel Lucas, Daniel MacPherson, Luke Ford, and Teagan Croft. Here's the synopsis:
Set in the future in a time of interplanetary colonisation, Sy (Lutz), a mysterious drifter, meets Kane (MacPherson), a lieutenant working for an off-world military contractor, Exor. The unlikely pair must work together to rescue Kane’s young daughter (Croft) and reach safety amid an impending global crisis which was brought on by Exor itself. "This is going to be fun." Rlj Entertainment has unleashed another new full-length trailer for an under-the-radar sci-fi epic titled The Osiris Child, or rather, The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One in full. They form an alliance and head out to rescue Kane's daughter amid an impending global crisis. Also stars Daniel MacPherson, Isabel Lucas, Rachel Griffiths, and Teagan Croft. No matter what else, I have to begin this review by saying that Origins Wars (2016) is an ambitious film. For good or bad, it knows what it wants to be, which is to say a science fiction blockbuster in the spirit of Serenity (2005) or Star Wars (1977), and it does its best to be that. But only that. This is a paradox of a film that at once has enough ambition to be the best “inspired by” movie ever but not to do anything really original. That’s not a bad thing – after all, a good story is a tight story, but the problem is that watching Origin Wars (2016) is like watching a film that you’ve seen thousands of times before late at night after a long, long day.
There’s an alien planet.
Which is cool, don’t get me wrong – and, to the film’s credit, even looks pretty cool.

An intriguing trailer has launched for a new sci-fi movie series titled The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One (or, vice versa, as Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child) from Australian filmmaker Shane Abbess. Described as an "adrenaline-fueled sci fi adventure", the story takes place in the future in a time of interplanetary colonization, about a father who has to rescue a young woman amidst a global crisis. The full cast includes Kellan Lutz, Daniel MacPherson, Isabel Lucas, Luke Ford, Rachel Griffiths, Temuera Morrison, Bren Foster, Dwaine Stevenson, and Teagan Croft. As much as I was expecting this to look cheesy or too low budget, it actually looks pretty damn good, with some impressive visual effects and an interesting story. Seemingly from outer space (Australia, really) comes Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child. This lost ’80s era space opera is a fresh of breath air that comes at a time when ones doesn’t see this kind of film too often. Furthermore, it’s not of the post-apocalyptic variety, which also adds a refreshing angle. What starts as a slow build, Shane Abbess‘ ambitious sci-fi gem quickly picks up speed and never looks back.
Abbess’ feature has many strengths, and right out of the gates the visuals simply sing with a slick and refined production design. Abbess and co-writer Brian Cachia succeed at impressive world building, and, like the music (also from Cachia), it’s big. This story about a government conglomerate, EXOr, colonizing planets is kicked off when one of their secret facilities is in danger of wiping out an entire planet in 24 hours (which include colonists, and...

In his 11-year career Twilight star Kellan Lutz has played Hercules and worked with Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford.
But he.d never experienced anything like the highs- and challenges- of collaborating with director Shane Abbess in the futuristic sci-fi thriller SFv1.
Lutz plays Sy, a former nurse who is now a drifter with a haunted past. Sy forms an unlikely alliance with Kane (Daniel MacPherson), a lieutenant who works for off-world military contractor Exor. In a race against time they set out to rescue Kane.s young daughter Indi (Teagan Croft) amid an impending global crisis precipitated by Exor.
.This is completely different from anything I.ve ever done; it has so much heart,. the Us actor tells If from the set in Sydney.
.I had never been part of a movie that was so emotional, with so much stress and trauma.

Daniel MacPherson and director Shane Abbess are mates and close creative collaborators, but that didn.t stop the pair having some robust discussions before the actor signed on for futuristic thriller SFv1.
MacPherson had appeared in Abbess. Infini and was developing several projects with the director when he was offered the co-lead role of Kane.
The actor did not have a clear sense of the narrative or the characters in the screenplay by Abbess and co-creator Brian Cacha, which is divided into multiple chapters, and asked for elucidation.

The project is currently being shown off at the Toronto Film Festival market, with footage being previewed for buyers, even though it's filming in Australia. Xyz Films is repping. See below. Here's the first photo from Shane Abbess' SFv1, featuring Kellan Lutz & Daniel MacPherson. I want more!
