Oh Poor Me
mcjensen-0592421 January 2020
Well here's a fun movie about en extremely irresponsible woman who does everything she shouldn't to try and fix her situation. She expects everyone to do back flips to help her and throw money at her. Tries to tackle several issues, probably too many. Fails to adequately explore any of them in the process. Acting and cinematography is overall very good even though the roles of characters are woefully cliche. An ultimately forgettable viewing experience.

Great Performances

A refreshing change from an assembly line of movies about beauty queen daughters working for their ultra rich father's law firm. This is an old story that effects every sector of society. "Beauty Mark" is especially heartbreaking as it is so well portrayed by Auden Thornton, as a young mom stuck in the cogwheel of extreme poverty. A superb lead actress & supporting cast, so convincing that it's easy to forget they're acting.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie deals with the difficult topic of child sexual abuse and how its most often the ppl we know and those who we think can be trusted are the ones perpetrating this abuse .. very sad and gripping story of a woman trying to deal with her past as best as she can and trying to build a semblance of a normal life from her childhood which has been irrevocably scarred by a sick twisted monster who shows no signs of repentance or issues with his behaviour ..

Deeply moving

I had the pleasure of seeing the NYC premiere of this incredible film, made by the insightful and smart filmmaker Harris Doran. It is a story that is needed to be told in this delicate yet brutality honest way. In any other hands it would be false.

See it, you will not be disappointed.

Each time I watch this film, I find something new. This important story about abuse and taking back your power even when the odds are against you is fabulously acted and deftly directed!

Must See Relevant Thriller
matthewdalefischer15 April 2018
Fast-paced and disturbingly real this film kept me engaged throughout. It brought me from anger to tears without being overly dramatic or sentimental but by being honest and faithful to Angie's struggle.

Important movie for a serious issue
micahj-4164310 August 2017
I have worked for an organization that supports children and families dealing with child sexual abuse for a number of years. This gritty, accurate movie does justice to the range of emotions and the hard decisions many people face who encounter the life changing trauma that accompanies child sexual abuse. This is the kind of movie that can both entertain and educate an audience and it balances those two roles very well. Anyone who gives a damn about protecting our children need to watch this and listen to the unfortunate but absolutely critical message the director Harris Doran has for the audience. Well done!!

Personal Sacrifices and Abuse in Life to Survive
jacgrp5 May 2018
Having lived in the area where Beauty Mark was filmed when I was a child, the film really touched my heartstrings as it was spot on about the sacrifices one makes for their family and the abuse that is prevalent. Harris Doran did a fantastic job writing and producing the film. The casting of Auden Thorton, Catherine Curtin, Laura Bell Bundy and Jeff Kober added to the awesome performance. It provides encouragement for victims of abuse to speak up. This is definitely a "must see".

Beautifully layer script excellent performances!

The nuance of this script approaches the subject from so many sides and gives so many windows through which to experience Angie's pain and predicament. The actors in the movie also give fantastic and gut-wrenching performances. I was truly moved and have been thinking about the film days after.

A MUST and NEED to see FILM
ljackson-060517 May 2018
Beauty Mark has left a lasting impression on me - the way I view the world today versus before I saw the film. Yes it stirs all of the emotions. It is sad, funny, unbelievable but true, makes you mad, makes you feel helpless and then it thrills you with relief. You could hear a pin drop throughout the entire film. It touches your heart, your mind and your soul. I was not the only one touched - everyone I talked to afterwards had something good to say about the film. The script is intriguing. The actors and actresses are professional and life like. And overall it is a MUST and NEED to see FILM.

TImely and strong considering where we are in the world
lmorgan-135-8889445 February 2018
This movie gave me chills from the moment I watched the trailer and cried harder when watching the film. This movie is not only timely, based on current events, but it shows the after math of what every abused child endures in the arms of addiction. Beautifully written, directed and produced. This is a movie for all, we need to educate children, so they do not accept behaviors as they grow into adulthood.

BEAUTY MARK STAYS WITH YOU
lelandnolan9 June 2018
I am often invited to screenings for films made by friends - from studio to student productions. While I believe that each film that gets made is its own miracle - when the lights come up, too often I am left searching for something nice to say. I had no such problem with Beauty Mark. I thoroughly enjoyed it and what's more, the impact of the film began with the closing credits and has stayed with me since. It is the mark (no pun intended) of a good film that engages the mind and emotions long after viewing. Superbly written, directed, acted, designed and photographed. I recommend it to anyone who gives a damn about people.

A Compelling Film!
smaeglin13 June 2018
Beauty Mark is a powerful film. It brings a heart-breaking story to life with a thoughtful, nuanced script, compelling direction and masterful acting. The characters are absolutely real on the screen, complete with flaws that make them more sympathetic. The film could easily have been filled with caricatures and tropes, but it is not. It brings you into the lives of people who have been dealt difficult hands and leaves you feeling for them deeply.

While the film progressed, I was enmeshed in the story, gripped with curiosity, wondering where its unpredictable path would lead as I rooted for Angie, the protagonist. During the credits, released from the tension of the story line, I broke down with empathy for Angie and the realization of how many people's lives resemble hers more than mine.

I count my blessings and I highly recommend this film.

Important Movie, Unspeakable Topic, Incredibly Well Made
strangerinthealps23 May 2018
It's incredibly intense, so definitely buckle up and have a light-hearted comedy queued up to start right after - but if you're looking for a tough, important story that's incredibly well-told and crafted, definitely check this one out and spread the word. Thornton turns in what should be a career-making performance and Cathy Curtin's no slouch either. Laura Bell is outstanding if not a little underused, leaves you wanting even more of her.
