Unnecessary but well produced
evandronius30 June 2020
I agree that it was an unnecessary episode in a show that is overall kind of poorly written in terms of the actual plot which has gone all sorts of ways, some of which themselves are pretty unnecessary. But it's still well written and emotionally well performed in terms of dialogue. And also kudos to them really hiring good medical consultants because whoever they were they nailed the medical stuff. It was literally like watching the training videos for how to run a trauma code and ACLS training. I'm a doctor and as far as medical tv drama, this one did about as best as possible. I'll give them the fact that it was of course a bit more dramatic and immaculate than real life. But I was impressed. They even added a bit of real world medical slang which surprisingly is the same in the UK as it is in the US.

A blip in an otherwise brilliant series
Vindelander6 October 2019
I agree with others who've commented that this episode seems really unnecessary and a distraction from the main story. It's like Casualty with all the blood and gore that I can do without being extremely squeamish!!

Fabulous series though. One of the very best.

Realistic
sexynurse-2211831 August 2018
This is one of my favorite episodes of The Fall. The trauma scenes are so realistic. People complain of the slow pace but as a health care worker I was enthralled. This one of the most realistic medical depictions of a trauma room I have seen.

Bit of a marmite episode

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this episode was amazing, but I can well understand why some didn't like it, though I disagree with those who say it was slow-paced. The pace was perfect for what was being represented.

My only reason for scoring it 9 instead of 10 is that it would be inconceivable for the two main patients, or their visitors, to be permitted to have any remote possibility of seeing the other in ICU.

I'm desperately hoping that's not what is going to happen in due course.

This episode really had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Of course,it was probably safe to assume Spector was going to live, but there was one scene where I thought he may have had it. I really enjoyed the a&e bits. They felt more tense and more... gritty... than hospital dramas. And Richard Coyle was incredible in charge. The doctors felt way more no-nonsense than the cops ever did. Deep character moments throughout. I was not disappointed.

A very tense follow up on season 2
h-christen27 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I agree with the critics that the pace is very slow, but that pace is extremely well done in this case. I am now watching episode 3. Call it suspense, very well supported by the sound track. There is a strong tension: what is going to happen? Build a strong court case, how are the reactions of involved people, the victim, Stella, the ER, the nurse, the obsessed nanny, the wife, the children etc… It is more drama than police action, but what is wrong with that? No bullets flying around our heads or cars chasing. It is directed very well with an eye for detail. An important point of view is about ethics. Many people would just want revenge, just let the bastard die! But the ER man explained, "our job is to take care of injured people the best we can, regardless of the alleged crimes he committed".

I am glued to my seat while watching this. Very well done!

S3E1 is an utter waste of time
xhidden9929 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It could have accomplished with 1 minute of Previously on The Fall. Instead we're treated to a full length documentary on ER aad trauma surgery process. Not kidding, literally the ENTIRE episode is a real time ER visit. No plot no story almost no dialog apart from medical jargon. It almost beyond belief why they made this. My criticism of The Fall has always been that it's Slow Burn pacing was so bad that it had to be an aggressive act of hatred against the audience. But this episode mines new depths in slow motion nothing happening frustration. It's so bad it might be a joke. A very dark boring joke. Or some kind of weird Zen experiment.

Creepy in subtle ways, loved all the characters. Great writing, and directing. Very scary in a few parts. I found myself locking my doors. 😳😛 very realistic, I just wish they would write more!! My husband and I go around the house saying "STELLA!!" Ha. P.S. I put the closed captioning on. It helped, red neck from Arkansas here. 👍😎

A long dull episode of Casualty
brucemiddlemissphotography30 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Series 1 rocked, serious 2 was OK! Lets hope series 3 picks up as not a good start.

This is probably the most pointless episode of television I have seen. It could have been wound up in twenty minutes max and then got on with wherever this is going. The chief surgeon spent the first 20 minutes just listing medical terms and medicines as quickly as he could.

Nothing had happened to further the story.

Gillian Anderson just keeps whispering which is somewhat annoying.

The young girl from the last series is just such a spoiled brat and again added nothing to the story-line. I really struggled to keep watching the episode as it was so dull and was relieved when it was over. Even in the dying seconds you think there might be a moment of tension but NOTHING.

Actually it was so dull I want a refund on my TV License

Season 3.. What a waste of time..
fastred331 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first 2 seasons of The Fall and found it very riveting. I even recommended it to my elderly mom who loves crime dramas. Both of us were very excited about the release of Season 3 on Netflix just this past Saturday.

Rarely have I seen a series deteriorate so stunningly. The total thrust of the story was about the pursuit of a particularly sadistic and violent serial killer, Jamie Dornan, Fifty Shades of Gray. Gillian Anderson, Scully from X-Files, is the top cop in charge of the pursuit. Her character is smart has a very lively sex life. There was plenty of action, suspense and killing in Season 1 & 2... none of the above in Season 3.

I got so sick of all the talking, talking, talking that I started fast- forwarding through entire segments... 5 1/2 episodes of nothing.

I would recommend watching the first 2 seasons and leave it at that. Don't worry about the cliff-hanger ending of The 2nd season.. it's all a trick to get you to watch Season 3, in which nothing else really happens anyway.

The Fall becomes Casualty
sarahlmasters12 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have loved S1 and S2 and highly recommended the series to friends and family. Then came this episode. Suddenly I'm not watching a thrilling murder investigation but an episode of Casualty. Maybe he just should have died and the show ended with S2.

Olivia was a very sweet character who suddenly grew up 3 years in what was supposed to be a few months. I understand wanting to keep the same actor but this somewhat ruined the character for me. Also turning her into a spoiled brat was such a shame.

But my biggest peeve is Anderson constantly whispering! What is that all about?! It was a little bit creepy to be honest.

Absolutely Awful
dredmart4 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Without a doubt the worst hour (90 minutes with commercials) of television I have ever seen. Just awful. The first 45 minutes were three patients in the emergency room. Not sure what this had to do with the plot, and it was at least 3x what one would find on a hospital emergency room show.

The other annoying (REALLY ANNOYING) aspect of the show is the 100% of monologue delivered by all the actors/actresses (with the exception of Katie) is an extremely dull monotone. It's as if there was a contest to see who could deliver their lines in the most boring way.

I was worried about season 3, as Spector had been apprehended in season 2. I wondered what could happen in the 6 episodes of season 3 to hold my interest. The answer - NOTHING. Now I have to convince my wife we should watch something else.

"Silence and suffering"
Robertttttt25 October 2021
The name of the episode defines it...nothing to add.

I need to write 150 characters, so I'll follow the example and make a long silence

Followed by a swimming scene.

What a shame!
mandygodbehear12 September 2020
What a shame, I fast forward almost the whole episode! Not one important fact , just surgery and bla bla! Why oh why do they always ruin a brilliant story. I suppose he is going to lure her to want sex with him now as he starts to soften the ice of this woman. If so then very predictable, if not then chapeau! It has actually made me just want to read the story line and not watch it to put me out of my misery :D

Wake me when it's over.....
mjc-8406710 March 2022
Ok, here's the thing.... This show is ok (at least what I've watched thus far) but dear me this episode is a snooze fest.

Nothing happens that pushes the story forward in any real sense, there is a couple of things in this episode that happen (I won't go into them just so I don't ruin it for anyone) but all in all this episode is by far the worst in the lot to this point.

Just one persons opinion.

Too much time was wasted on Medical procedures
asemasaleh21 December 2023
Well, It looked like we were watching some medical drama with all those procedures taking place. In stead of wasting time on those unnecessary medical details, they could pursue other angles in the show. Don't get me wrong. I really like this show. Seasons 1 and 2 were great. They could have started season 3 with some events from season 2 finale. Like that employee in the police department who was leaking to the journalist. I haven't watched the rest of season 3 yet. But apparently there will be an investigation in Stella's conduct and the actor who played the journalist has left the show apparently.
