Mob Psycho 100 is anything but a run-of-the-mill shonen anime. From characters to animation, the series is a complete visual treat. What makes it a worthy watch is One’s storytelling. Often, fans compare the series to the mangaka’s magnum opus One Punch Man. Despite similarities, both protagonists are entirely different. Even the Director will vouch for this.

Yuzuru Tachikawa had an interesting process behind selecting Mob’s voice actor. He left no stone unturned in casting the perfect fit for the protagonist’s voice. Interestingly, the voice actor exemplified the hero’s plain yet powerful persona. This only proves that a story doesn’t require an attractive male lead to sustain itself.

Renowned for his famous works One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100, One has millions of fans around the world. Definitive of shonen protagonists in every way possible, One’s main characters like Saitama or Mob have simplistic appearances that don’t match up with their importance. They have rather simple features without any distinct traits which could make them stand out.

The season finale of My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999 has left fans unsatisfied and craving more. My Love Story has one of the best takes on a slow-burn romance between a high school boy and a college girl. Additionally, the absence of unnecessary drama and filler characters has contributed to the anime’s reputation as one of the top rom-coms, with only 13 episodes.

What’s worse than a bad anime is one that goes from being a spectacular delight to somewhat decent or downright bad; and that’s the journey of One Punch Man from season 1 to season 2. The story is refreshing and pokes fun at every shonen trope to have ever existed, sometimes by refining them too. However, the main highlight was the stunning animation by Studio Madouse. The excitement surrounding One Punch Man was dampened by the studio switch in the sequel.

The series follows the story of a middle school student who appears shy and average, but possesses immense psychic power.

Shonen Jump is now entering a new era of manga as the previous generation that carried the magazine has ended. For a while now, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia have been the new “mascots” for Shonen Jump after Naruto and Bleach concluded. And now that Jump is moving on from their flagship models, fans are looking for the next big thing that would carry Jump, other than One Piece, of course.
Currently, there are a bunch of titles that attract readers every week or month to Shonen Jump and its online platforms. There’s Chainsaw Man, One Punch Man, Kaiju No. 8, Sakamoto Days, Choujin X, and so on. But there’s another series that has quickly gained a lot of traction lately, especially here in the west. And that is Kagurabachi.

Studio Madhouse might be known for animating Death Note, Frieren, One Punch Man and several other popular franchises, but in 2000, the studio produced the most iconic gothic film, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. It has been more than two decades since the film was released, but the recognition it received never died down.
Bloodlust is the second anime adaptation of Hideyuki Kikuchi’s light novel series and it presents a powerful visual style to its audience. Taking place 10,000 years after a nuclear war, the anime shows vampire survivors called Nobles who begin to enslave humanity. As a countermeasure, humans take the help of Vampire Hunters, and our protagonist is a vampire-human hybrid who travels the world to kill vampires as well as other monsters.

One Punch Man is an extremely popular series because of the way it breaks the mold of a traditional Shonen protagonist. Rather than showing proper character growth, One and Yusuke Murata stuffed fans with an overpowered protagonist right from the beginning.
The title of the series comes from Saitama’s specialty of defeating his opponents with a single punch. Afterward, the hero himself looks disappointed for winning so soon, but that’s a tale for another day. The issue at hand is that Saitama does have a weakness, which One has already revealed.

Keisuke even posted his achievement on his X account, but the young talent was not so happy with his success as he wanted to be placed at the top. Nevertheless, One Punch Man fans were...

There are tons of animation studios in Japan, but few come close to Madhouse. Madhouse has been in the animation business since 1972 and completed five decades in the anime and manga industry. The studio has produced several big names like Hunter x Hunter (2011), Yu Yu Hakusho, Death Note, One Punch Man, etc.
But in 2009, the studio was left in a sorry state after producing one of the flop anime movies of the year. The movie was called Redline, and it caused the studio to lose millions of dollars. Currently, in 2024, Redline has become one of the cult-classic anime movies even after miserably failing at the Japanese box office.

Redline was released on October 9, 2009 in Japan. But before that, it had been premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival on August 14, 2009. At that time, no one thought it was going to suffer massive losses.

Symphonic Anime is a concert series created by conductor and chief arranger, Thanapol Setabrahmana. Getting its start in Thailand, the showcase has made its way through Thailand and Vietnam and is now making its first North American tour to Canada and the US. Thanks to his love of Japanese animation, Setabrahmana collaborated with some of anime’s most iconic composers to create an original composition of scores from Naruto , My Hero Academia , and Spy x Family into an orchestral arrangement for Symphonic Anime. This September, audiences can spend a night listening to their favorite anime score performed by the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and choir with special composer guests Yasuharu Takanashi, Yuki Hayashi, and Makoto Miyazaki and guest vocalist Nan Sathida. I got the chance to speak with composers Yasuharu Takanashi, Yuki Hayashi, and Makoto Miyazaki about the orchestra concert and how their careers have shaped their composition styles and works.

Goku has always been regarded as one of the strongest characters in anime let alone his influence and power in the Dragon Ball franchise. His strength as compared to any other character has been debated and argued about universally. Fans have been split and united, wondering if Akira Toriyama’s character truly is the strongest an anime character can become.
Dragon Ball | Credit: Toei Animation
The debate persists among many characters who can be deemed the strongest in anime but the competition always settles between Goku and Saitama from One Punch Man. The idea that he can always come up with something to defeat his opponent no matter how outmatched he may be can be taken as plot armor, however, another reason could justify just why he has such an ease during battles.

When we think about the word “hero,” we usually picture a stereotypical image of a tall, handsome, fair, and strong archetypal figure. But not this one. Saitama from One Punch Man is anything but a stereotype. He isn’t the run-of-the-mill heartthrob but he, for sure, is in a league of his own.

Spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine" follow.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" is a smorgasbord of fan service, meta jokes, crude humor, and gratuitous violence — plus an excellent Hugh Jackman. This is a movie with a poor script that follows the worst tendencies of corporate superhero movies, and a desperate attempt and throwing everything at the screen. And yet, it works like gangbusters. Sure, the film tore the /Film team apart, but that's just how Deadpool would want it.
In "Deadpool & Wolverine," the Merc with a Mouth sets out to save his timeline from collapsing by teaming up with Wolverine. Sadly, the two end up trapped in The Void fighting alongside and against some forgotten heroes and villains from Marvel's past, and even a hero that never was, in a parade of so many cameos it's hard to keep track.

Anime is all but defined by the action shonen genre in the eyes of the general public. Much like the box office used to be dominated by superhero movies, the biggest anime tend to be action shonen shows about teenage boys awakening some big power and using the magic of friendship to overcome challenges. This can be a problem when reducing the medium to a single genre for newcomers. Still, after you watch a few shonen, you realize that the ones that stand out and become phenomena are those that take those formulas and tropes and make them their own.
One such anime is "Black Cover," studio Pierrot's adaptation of Yūki Tabata's manga of the same name. The story is set in a world where everyone can use magic, and we follow a boy named Asta who was born without magic — but instead with anti-magic abilities — who nevertheless wants...
