- Matthew Casey: [Herrmann has stormed off] Hey. What's your read?
- Gabriela Dawson: He's got that look in his eyes.
- Randall McHolland: Parents hurting their kids, it flips a switch.
- Matthew Casey: Yeah. Stick near him. Make sure he knows he's not alone.
- Randall McHolland: Copy that.

- Chaplain Orlovsky: I want to talk with you today about a subject that touches every one of us. Loss. Sometimes, we are faced with things we think we just can't handle. The death of a loved one, a father, a child, and we strive to find the reason behind it all. And when those reasons don't make sense, we question God. We look up and we say, "God, how could You do this to us? How can you put so much on our plate?" But we're not operating on God's timetable, are we? We don't understand God's plan. How can we? And let me tell you, this is where faith comes in. Faith can help us see His message in our own lives. Perhaps this loss is there to teach us not to take the ones we love for granted, to cherish the simple, mundane moments, to love others as fiercely and as bravely and as compassionately as we can. And in that love, human love, forgiving, relentless, unconditional love, you'll find peace.
- Church goers: Amen.
- Wallace Boden: Okay, that is all for now. Y'all stay safe out there today. You're all dismissed.
- Brian Zvonecek: You okay, buddy?
- Joe Cruz: Yeah, man, you know, better than expected. Brett and I are gonna be friends, and, you know, there was just so much pressure.
- Brian Zvonecek: Totally.
- Joe Cruz: Just want to rest up for a while.
- Brian Zvonecek: Of course.
- Wallace Boden: What happened to your hand?
- Christopher Herrmann: Lee Henry dropped a tire iron on it.
- Wallace Boden: Yeah, why would Lee Henry have a tire iron?
- Christopher Herrmann: Those days are coming, Dad.
- Wallace Boden: Huh.
- Randall McHolland: Anyone hear news on the boy?
- Kelly Severide: The bleed is resolved, but they had to put a shunt in to reduce brain swelling.
- Christopher Herrmann: Sounds bad.
- Kelly Severide: She said it was routine procedure.
- Chaplain Orlovsky: Running into burning buildings takes courage. But it also takes courage to turn everything else over to God.
- Christopher Herrmann: I'm working on it, Padre, I ain't there yet, but I'm trying.
- Christopher Herrmann: You know the one thing I love about this job? You run into a thousand degree house fire and pull a kid out, I know I'm doing the right thing.
- Chaplain Orlovsky: It's highly commendable.
- Christopher Herrmann: But this kid, I save him, just so he can go through all this hell, or maybe not even make it at all. I can't help wondering if it would've been better if...
- Donna Robbins: [enters Boden's office with their son] Who... needs... a baby hug?
- [Wallace raises his hand]
- Wallace Boden: Hey, little man.
- [lifts Terrance up]
- Christopher Herrmann: [horrified as he watches a video of Ed Slater and his baby] Oh my God, did he just blow smoke in that kid's face?
- Matthew Casey: Yep. That's not cigarette smoke, is it?
- Kim Burgess: Meth or heroin.
- Peter Mills: I heard back from Dr. Bachman.
- Elise Mills: And?
- Peter Mills: I'm cleared for Squad.
- Elise Mills: [hugs him] I'm so proud of you.
- Sylvie Brett: He broke up with me.
- Gabriela Dawson: You mean you broke up with him.
- Sylvie Brett: No. He was the dumper, I was the dumpee.
- Peter Mills: A restaurant? In North Carolina?
- Elise Mills: It's ours. What'd you say to him?
- Peter Mills: Nothing, I... I guess he was looking for forgiveness. I gave it to him.
- Elise Mills: Well, it worked. He left us this restaurant in his will.
- Peter Mills: Wow!
- Elise Mills: I know!
- Peter Mills: So how much do you think we can get for it?
- Elise Mills: Or... Or what if we take a crack at opening it?
- Peter Mills: You're serious?
- Elise Mills: Mom lost the Cortland Street Grill and now we're being handed a second chance. It's fate, Peter.
- Peter Mills: I have my fate. It's here. I'm finally about to get back on Squad.
- Elise Mills: What has this job given you, Peter? It took Dad, it took everything you had, it messed with your health, and you keep going back for more.
- Peter Mills: That's not fair.
- Elise Mills: At the grill, we had something that was ours. We were together, and we had fun, right? We could do this. You and me and Mom, you know we can do this. It'd mean so much to her.
- Christopher Herrmann: [about brutally assaulting Ed Slater] I only wanted to rattle his cage a little bit
- Matthew Casey: It's rattled.
- Christopher Herrmann: You tell Chief yet?
- Matthew Casey: No. You can do that if you want. Or not. You were off duty, and as far as I'm concerned, you went home and hung out with your family.
- Christopher Herrmann: [about his old neighborhood in Canaryville] People there will tell me things they won't tell the cops.
- Bartender: Help you with something?
- Christopher Herrmann: Cup of coffee, black.
- Bartender: There's a diner down the street.
- Christopher Herrmann: I'm not down the street, am I?
- [Ed Slater comes out of a bathroom. He tries to flee, but Herrmann catches him]
- Christopher Herrmann: WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING, HUH? YOU ALMOST BURNED YOUR KID ALIVE! YOU EXPECT TO JUST GET AWAY WITH IT, HUH? ANSWER ME!
- Matthew Casey: STOP! STOP! It's over! It's over! Hey, hey! Look at him.
- [pulls out his phone]
- Matthew Casey: Yeah, I need the 21st District. Trying to reach officers Burgess and Roman.
