A fantastic standout

The Simpson's was too good in its prime to ever be entirely ostracized even all these years after its peak. It started well with an unusually on point parody and great Skinner bit. Cue Detective was a shining example of a good episode. A classic Homer food fantasy was for once not forced and although quick, hilarious. More of these pop up and none were cringe worthy.

More classic Homerisms as well him spending money irresponsibly which yes, is a tired concept as is the competition with some big time pseudo celebrity. The jokes were funny and well timed which is an aspect that in recent years the writing team has lacked.

the new york jabs were also very funny as well as the character Tyler whose voice was just brilliant.

Best of all, I found my self having actual quotes:

"My ridiculous hoops!"

"Stephen Hawkins selling his talking motorcycle"

"I can see everyone from up here...In the shower"

The ending sequence was a great little closer that had me genuinely grinning thanks to its prime surrealist elements which pretty much sums up how I felt about this episode. An Excellent addition that will no doubt be a highlight to the season and hopefully not just another rare moment of good latter day Simpson's that shows up every so often.

A Straight Forward episode with No real Excitement,

Cue Detective is a decent Simpsons episode with a nicely written storyline and some funny scenes. It definitely has its moments, the kids being forced to watch Doctor Dolittle at the beginning had me in stitches because of how ridiculous it was, I also the enjoyed the True Detective parody at the end, and some of Homer's lines when he is depressed are shockingly deep and emotional. The plot is very thin, it never really goes anywhere, it focuses on the family needing a washing machine, followed by Homer getting a smoker, losing it, resolution, and that's basically it, it lingers far too long on several plot points. It's biggest issue is that it's just not very exciting, as you can probably tell from the storyline, the plot is basic and straight forward, it could have done something with the story to spice it up, as the Simpsons have successfully done with cliché story lines in the past, but this really just feels like filler for the season. It has some funny moments, but Cue Detective is a weak Simpsons episode mainly because it's not particularly interesting.

A super chef challenges Homer to a cook off after he becomes a hit around Springfield with his new cooker.

Crime-solving mystery episode.

This one was a crime-solving mystery episode with a nice old-school feel to it. I think season 27 has opened in a very promising way, as the first one and the one after this one were good too!

A nice story and some crazy gags - and a mystery.
