The festival, running from May 8-14, will open with the North American premiere of Over the Bridge, director Tolu Ajayi’s narrative feature set in Lagos, Nigeria. The closing-night slot goes to Dilli Dark, directed by Dibakar Das Roy, a narrative feature about a Nigerian Mba student in Delhi, India. Nigerian actor Samuel Abiola Robinson stars in the role of Michael Okeke.
“The whole intent behind it is to not just talk about Africans in Delhi,” Roy told Outlook India. “The intent is to talk about anyone who feels like an outsider in society today, that could be in India, America, or any other place. Michael Okeke is a metaphor for every outsider, whether he is an Indian or foreigner in any society.

Telemundo will add two starry telenovelas, “El Conde: Amor y Honor” and “Vuelve a Mi,” and a ninth season of its hit drama series “El Señor de los Cielos” to its 2023-24 primetime slate.
Telemundo is bringing star Fernando Colunga back to the screen after a multi-year break from novelas for “El Conde,” an established novela format. “El Señor de los Cielos” will ramp up even more of the war on narcos as the Telemundo series enters its ninth season.
“This is a narco series, however, it deals with a bunch of things happening to the family in relationships [and] in the family ties, but people want to see more of the narco world, so we’re gonna make sure we bring more of that,” Telemundo Global Studios production and development EVP Karen Barroeta told TheWrap. “The war on the narcos between Colombia and Mexico is going to be coming back.”
As the series spotlights the narco world even more than before, audiences might recognize El Cabo, who makes his triumphant return for the full ninth season.
Protagonist Aurelio (Rafael Amaya) also returns better than ever for the next chapter in the series with a new lease on life, settling back into his beloved persona as a true...

Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired worldwide rights (excluding Africa and Japan) to “Indemnity,” an action-thriller written and directed by South African filmmaker Travis Taute that had its world premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival. Magnet is targeting an early 2022 release.
“Indemnity” follows Theo Abrams, an ex-Cape Town fireman whose world is rocked when he wakes up next to his wife’s dead body with no recollection of what transpired and all evidence pointing to him as the killer.
“’Indemnity’ is visceral, high-octane cinema done with an amazing level of accomplishment and imagination,” said Magnolia Pictures president Eamonn Bowles. “Travis Taute and his South African crew have delivered a real winner.”
“’Indemnity’ is at its very core a simple and poetic journey of one man’s attempt at redemption in the wake of a devastating trauma,” said Taute. “It was conceived as a vehicle to...

Brace yourself: the Labor Day weekend box office record is about to be broken. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the latest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it is the rare major film to release over the famously low-grossing holiday weekend, following in the footsteps of Tenet last year and continuing Marvel’s trend of extending the length of the summer movie season. The current record holder for the long weekend is the Halloween remake, which opened to $30.6 million in 2007. Shang-Chi should be able to top that without breaking a sweat, even though it will fall toward the lower end of openings for a Marvel film.
Shang-Chi, which is the only wide release of the weekend, takes the MCU into new territory, drawing from Asian culture and cinema and featuring a cast and director of Asian origin. The title character is a star-making role for Simu Liu,...

XYZ Films has acquired North American sales rights to “Indemnity,” an action thriller from South African director Travis Taute that’s set to world premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival.
Written and directed by Taute, “Indemnity” tells the story of an ex-firefighter in Cape Town who’s forced to fight for his life after being accused of murdering his wife. Starring Jarrid Geduld, Nicole Fortuin and Andre Jacobs, pic is produced by Benjamin Overmeyer and Bradley Joshua for Gambit Films, the South African production outfit behind the Netflix series “Blood and Water” and the Fantasia prize winner “Number 37.”
“‘Indemnity’ is, at its very core, a simple and poetic journey of one man’s attempt at redemption in the wake of a devastating trauma,” said Taute. “It was conceived as a vehicle to shine a spotlight on the importance of mental health and deliver sobering insight into the destructive nature of toxic masculinity.

Once upon a time, Netflix was simply a streaming service, which means it bought movies and TV shows from other companies and passed them to its subscribers. Then, when the streamer started making enough money, it began to finance its own productions to make content that was – now and always – exclusively available on its own platform.
That business model stuck around for quite a while and made the streamer lots of extra cash. But then coronavirus hit and as the global health crisis put a stop to moviemaking around the world, Netflix slowly reverted back to its original form as a simple video on demand service. For now, at least. This week, then, not unlike the weeks before it, brings a few delayed originals, and a ton of newly-acquired syndicated content.

It's the season of love, but it has also been the season of family.
It goes to show you love comes in various forms. We can debate all day about the 'ships sailing, but the familial aspect of this season is interesting as well.
Grey's Anatomy Season 15 Episode 17 had the (possible) departures of Vincenzo and Helen, Maggie stepping into a part of her identity, the complex Towen family unit, and it teased the upcoming arrival of Jo's biological mother.
Let's start things off with la famiglia DeLuca. No shade intended but is that it for this storyline?!
Perhaps it is only the end of the innovative baby in a bag portion of the storyline. I was starting to get accustomed to creepy baby sheep in baggies, too.
As insane as Vincenzo's idea sounded, it was innovative and cutting edge, so the idea of the show exploring the study was promising.
