I was not strongly against the odd reboot of the fifth season as much as many were, however I was glad to find this sixth season made a return to very familiar territory – even painstakingly recreating the original offices for their return. Aside from a few references and characters, the drug-dealing season is not really held to, and we are back in the realm of spies, with Archer back on old form and feeling much more at home. The plots are as silly as before but have that internal logic that help them along. Most importantly, it is very funny, and all the characters have their usual strengths played to well with the writing.
The downside of this deliberate return to the show's roots, is that it does feel like it lacks a little freshness. Some of the episodes/plots are a little weaker than I would have liked too. In particular, the return of Barry and Katya was not something I liked – nor the visit to pam's family/past. Despite this, it is still an enjoyable season – as silly as ever, and with the voice cast all making the most of the good writing. Not as strong as it once was perhaps, but more than enough to make me come back for the seventh season.
