Show title used to refer to coding ...

... and now it seems to refer to the characters themselves.

Not that this is a bad thing. Merely a transition.

I still love the show but the job of the reviewer is to tell it like it is.

Season 1 was about the story. Season 1 attempted (and succeeded) at telling a tale that seemingly everyone else in Hollywood had missed.

Season 1 could legitimately claim to be about the computer revolution. "Halt and Catch Fire" was a piece of code, and the fact that the creators chose it for the title speaks volumes.

Season 1 was electric. You had a great story and you had great characters. Everyone was a winner.

(Won't bore with with the story about how Davis was "discovered" on a street corner in Montreal, like a modern Lana Turner)

Season 2 is still set against the backdrop of the computer age but mow the characters are in the foreground. Again, I am not complaining, just reviewing.

All kinds of things are happening to the characters. In essence the show has become Breaking Bad set against a different thematic background.

It is still amazing. The writing is still sharp and the characters feel like old friends.

But it is not exactly the same show.

And, there, the job of the reviewer is done.
