exquisite TV drama, just perfect
A_Different_Drummer29 September 2015
I am not sure which aspect of this marvellous episode is more amazing:

  • the slow gentle yet unrelenting manner in which the bizarre plot twist from season 3 is resolved, the tension practically drips from each moment of the drama, the Emmy people can eat their hearts out

or

  • the fact that, when season 3 was wrapped up, the production company did not know there would even be a next season, so this episode is a "bonus" for viewers in the true sense of the word.

And the performances, omigawd, the performances.

McRaney is one of the least appreciated but most seasoned TV actors in the game. He has been honing his craft since the 1960s and pretty much delivers the performance of his life here.

And Taylor -- the Australian who acts like he actually grew up in the American west -- could not give a weak performance if you asked him

All the cast act their hearts out in this one

For a viewer, this episode is pure joy, 100% proof, don't operate heavy machinery after watching

Perhaps the best yet

I'm not into long reviews, and I don't want to write too much, as many have not seen the current season's episodes, but this is, to me, the best episode of the 4 seasons. It is the epitome of the entire Longmire "creed", and exhibits strong writing, acting and production, which, by the way, has improved since the show's move to Netflix. It was heartening to see the original cast return (hopefully for years to come) as the ensemble nature of the show is one of its strengths. From Robert Taylor to Katee Sackoff to Lou Diamond Phillips, no one seems to treat this as merely a TV show. This also extends to the film crew, as the lighting, filming and editing is wonderful. I followed this show on A&E, and I'm thrilled to see it return, even stronger, to Netflix.

My first review ever on IMDB

This show is what you dream of when you want escapist entertainment. In all my 56 years of watching television I am hard pressed to find anything that compares to this series. Every single actor with a speaking role delivers the performance of their career. It is as if they've all stored it up for this show and none is overacted- it's all perfect and on cue. I don't know how you top a 9.6 rating but I sure am willing to see if they do. This is big screen quality every episode- I'm in love if you couldn't tell!

A Touch of Vengeance
Hitchcoc23 December 2018
This is a really remarkable episode. It starts with Cady getting a job offer from a prestigious law firm. They offer her a huge sum of money, but she finds out they are lawyering for the enemies of her father and the possible murderer of her mother. Unfortunately, her impulsiveness gets her pulled into a chamber of secrets. Barlow and Nighthorse are at the forefront. As a matter of fact, Nighthorse uses Walt's overaggressiveness to make him seem like a vigilante. But what makes this episode about as good as it gets is the subtle pacing. The culminating scene call for some really fine acting to be believable.

Good enough but a bit confused

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the episode for the most part. Resolution and lots of tense scenes. And I know it's a drama and the fun isn't in plot soundness but I thought this was missing a bit of logic. Why kill Walt's wife if she was dying of cancer anyway? And soon, as was mentioned. If Connally pulled out a gun he's not "defenceless" he's pointing a gun at a sheriff who has no idea it's not loaded. And then Walt grabs the gun. I guess he could've had a round that he was going to get around to. Then Connally goes out and stabs himself with his knife. Again to frame Walt. So what does Walt do? Grab the bloody knife for no good reason other than getting his prints all over the fresh blood. I hope Walt just buries him in the woods so this is all moot. Good times regardless but perhaps ol Longmire was just not thinking since he was so blind with rage finding the man behind his wife's murder.
