I felt this movie was different and the storyline interesting enough to keep my attention and interest throughout. It certainly had a twist to its end in one way, but that was damaged by the fact the main character's best friend who felt the need to go visit her at the flat and when she couldn't find her friend, whose furniture and belongings where very much real, when going to a neighbor to ask if she had seen her friend and that she was concerned as she had not heard from her for some days, the neighbor replied that she didn't understand and seemed shocked about this friends statement because the flat in question had been empty for some years.. The friend of the main character, who I'm sure was meant to portray someone very real and logical.. reacted out of character completely.. and the script writer who instead of making the friend react as any average person would and question the neighbors statement, with her being unwilling to entertain it, and knowing she had visited her best friend in the flat , eaten a meal and spent an evening with her, for me it would be an unacceptable situation for a person to deny a close friends existence, and show concern and question where a best friend had gone.. Instead the character of the best friend, simply walked out of the building , with no intent to challenge the fact nor entertain her own sanity questionable ...merely stopped for a moment to look up at the window of her friends apartment then just get into her car and drive away If we are to believe that the main character was dead all along but had yet to accept that fact, something we have been told as a common element when someone dies it can take time for the spirit to realize they no longer exist in the real world..., and respect the directors choice to keep from us.. this as something to be used as a twist to the story in its ending.. Then the main characters interaction with other tenants in the building throughout the entire film a flaw in the viewer having to be expected not to question that, nor question the characters best friend just accept a neighbors statement that the flat had been empty for years.. and see all of a sudden a friend who came across as intelligent and logical ..behave bizarrely all of a sudden and just leave it there, that her friend had not even lived nor had she spent an evening with her in the apartment and just simply walk away and act as if nothing nor her friend anything to be questioned in her mind.. It spoils the whole movie, and damaged what could have been a really good film.. so overall a film with a original concept but its ending a series of events that no viewer can possibly just accept to be a intelligent and realistic ending.

Another low budget picking in on the ghost story freakshow being delivered nowadays but sadly it wasn't my thing. Therefor it was too slow and there are conversations that are way too long and rather boring.
Of course they had to add a child towards the story, you know the creepy one, that should be scary but for me it wasn't. Simply because the effects didn't work out for me. Things moving in a kitchen or fallen out of the cupboard, you know the kind of things but no, not for me.
It's all the way to the end that it becomes a horror story but for me it was too late. I had to sit through a lot of conversations that sometimes didn't add a thing to the story and even clocking in under 90 minutes it was still a punish to watch it to the end. I do know what production was trying to deliver but sadly for me again, too late.

Swedish apartment life: The Movie

Far from a perfect movie, but it definitely has it's moments. It makes great use of the innate depressing creepiness of every older, crappy apartment building in the country.
Every little detail reminds me of some place I've lived (hell, my current place even has a closet door in the hallway that keeps opening, with almost exactly the same wallpaper!) and they are lovingly shot to show them off in all their glory.
They are perfectly realistic and in no way exaggerated either. The building definitely feels like a real home.
Some of the dialogue felt pretty unnatural to me, but it definitely nails the uneasy feeling of moving into a new apartment. At it's best moments it reminds me of Dark Water, which it is probably heavily influenced by.

So damn boring...heavy drugs couldn't put you to sleep like this film.
first attempt. i fell asleep i took copious scribbled and barely legible notes, some still hard to interpret, possibly due to poor handwriting, possibly due to 2 serries and 4 dirty resin buckets consumed directly prior to screeening... anyway notes from first attempt shows some hope and promise when the film opens with a lovecraft quote..cool.. fade to black and then interior shot, some house witchcrafty looking Shiite about , a copy of book titled "witch's bible"..which witch? fade black flash forward, present day somebody put a rose on a tombstone. from what i gather nothing you see in this film has any real relevance to how the story place out and you can pretty much ignore everything. it's pretty crud.

"nicely filmed" "Oh wow somebody spoke, is this a foreign film? OK cool.." "HARD SUBS" "CREEPO IN HOTEL"- accompanied by terrible small biro sketch

"ooh wow late night tooth brush buzzing and a lady walking in a reflection! cool!" And then apparently i fell asleep..

second attempt notes: OK wow this is a mess, I've written in my boredom "drip drip drip" nearly every time a traps drips in this film because it is about as much fun as simply watching a tap drip anyway. maybe it's some kind of bull- spit symbolism that i missed but it symbolizes to me the utter boredom of the film. for the record I wrote "drip drip drip" at least ten times and considering that each tap drip scene is at least two and more often three or more drips, that is at least 20 -40+ times you will watch a dripping tap in the godawful borefest.
Anyway, here's the remaining notes i took: "15-17 muhinh" - illegible (such a good idea this note taking thing)
"their basement is upstairs?" - guess it's an attic basement.. "she lives alone - separated? - friends is visiting.."
"BRILLIANT QUOTE (nearly but not making film worthwhile) - 'Defective life. I demand a full refund.' making me think of this film.."
"Not creeping me out" "38 mins in, no wonder i fell asleep last time.."
"Oh! Creepy hands, behind a hanging sheet! Oh!"
"Worst guide-dog for the blind, ever."

Well I made it through, and honestly it was torture. Sorry that this is more a review of my experience with the film, rather than the film itself, but rest assured this is probably the only entertainment we'll get from the movie anyway.

Not Bad At All

For a low budget ghost story, this was pretty decent. I thought Lanna Ohlsson did a terrific job in her role. The apartment building and attic provide a great creepy atmosphere.
The story was pretty well done and left quite a bit for the viewer to interpret. There were a couple things where I would have liked explained a bit more, but over all it was pretty solid. I don't mind watching subtitled movies either.
If you like the genre, give it a try. Don't expect anything ground breaking, but it's interesting and not a bad movie at all. I look forward to the next project by this director.

A great minimalistic Scandinavian supernatural thriller!

I really enjoyed Sensoria. I was surprised at the overall quality of the film. The subtle nuances in the storytelling and performances didn't feel like a film from a first time feature film director. The acting is good for the most part, especially the little girl played by newcomer Norah Andersen as well as the main actress Lanna Olsson playing Caroline who really carries the film. Also her friend Emma played by Alida Morberg, and Rafael Pettersson playing Johan the strange neighbor really make up a great ensemble cast. You can see that the director really worked with the actors, as it was more subtle than Swedish films normally are. The dialogue was delivered in a good way. It is one of the better Swedish genre films in the last years for me. Less is more and that is truly the case here.
I really love the slow pace of the film, it really adds to the atmosphere and overall feeling. You feel the tempo is deliberate and the director leads you through the film. It is a very well told psychological thriller drama (which might be considered horror to some people). The filmmakers have managed to portray a woman breaking down, losing the realms of reality and connecting with the supernatural world in a really good way. I felt that the portrayal of Caroline and what she goes through was very real. Her loneliness resonated through the screen.
The imagery and visual composition stayed with me for a long time after watching the film. The way the director guides us through the story was really fantastic. I also liked the unconventional way of sometimes letting us the viewer see things that the main character didn't seem aware of... at first this was odd I felt... but then as I got into it and also re-watched it I really felt this made the film stronger. Also that the apartment building was used as a character was really good. How the sound was used sometimes unconventional but it still made sense. There were influences from Polanski's The Tenant, Repulsion and Rosemary's Baby and also Winner's The Sentinnel for sure... and also some J-Horror influences that you could feel. I still felt it was unique in its own way and it had that Scandinavian feel to it. Great use of the location. Cinematography was impressive and there was always small movement in the camera which gave it a nerve and the composition really gave the film that extra creepy feeling.
Story wise I might have wanted a little bit more... I understand this was a very independent film, made for very little money and a one location film at that. Althoug this is no excuse I still feel that Sensoria is a fantastic film, and I really enjoyed it. If you like slow paced, well told, atmospheric, intelligent genre films that ask questions and lets you think about the film - then Sensoria is a film for you.

Carro (Lanna Ohlsson) life has come apart as she moves into a new apartment, one with a history of an event that happened in 1983. From the beginning mild paranormal activity manages to happen without it being found footage. The film plods along as we meet the tenets, an elderly woman, a blind man, a creep and a little girl. About an hour into the film we get more of the 1983 event and with 15 minutes left the film wakes up and becomes interesting for a few moments. Not overly surprising or shocking.
This is for people who are serious about ghost stories and are willing to put up with the boredom. English subtitles. 2 1/2 stars

Creepy and suspenseful

This is a pretty good Swedish horror movie. Very suspenseful and atmospheric. Reminds me a little bit of Roman Polanski's The Tenant: not the plot, but the creepy atmosphere. Performances are very good. Pace is slow, but that is why it's so suspenseful and creepy.
If you only like Hollywood schlock, then this definitely isn't the movie for you. If you want something a little different, and you like suspense/horror with good, understated acting - and you like European movies - then it's worth checking out.
