A camp soap like drama that's with style and tease and it's sexy and funny!
blanbrn7 January 2016
I remember years ago when the hot and sexy Eva Longoria was on the hit night soap "Desperate Housewives" as a sexy colored bra wearing self centered wife who cheated on her husband who caused trouble. And it was a pleasure to watch her! Now she returns with this Spanish like soap "Telenovela" and it's real funny and tries to be a catch with the witty and smart lines! Eva is Ana a soap actress who's trying to make her way after a break up and it's an adventure to deal with the other cast members every episode as it's about finding love and friendship while contending with off and on the set drama. And it's a tease of laughs and sex appeal as Ana dresses very sexy a real eye candy treat! Anyone should know anything with Eva Longoria in it should be a watch she's so sexy!

Absolutely Funny

Telenovela is a treasure. It really deserved more seasons.

The cast is hilarious.

It's a great quick binge watch, and it delivers plenty of laughs.

It's hard to say who is the funniest, because the entire cast is perfection in how they deliver their lines. The cast chemistry is amazing.

Nice Entertainment!

Warning: Spoilers
I had some doubts about this show, but I like to give it a chance whenever I can, and after 3 episodes, I have to say that it was surprisingly good, it's a nice TV show, it's unique and have good material to work with, so I hope this doesn't get a lazy show. It's funny to see Eva Longoria in such a comic character, she really plays well this type of character without seeming forced, and I like her relationship with Xavier but I wanna see how will she manage to keep in the show without speaking Spanish....It's going to be hilarious! So well done NBC, keep going because I'm stick with this show to see how far it can go.

Witty flamboyant comedy !
Dr_Sagan9 December 2015
This is a behind-the-scenes type of comedy about the daily shooting of a telenovela (spanish speaking soap opera) and the lives of people involved with its creation.

It is stylish, colorful with good comedic timing, decent jokes and good over-the-top performances from the cast. Mainly it exploits the stereotype of a Diva, the flashy popular female protagonist, who only cares about her image. The fun starts right from the beginning when you realize that the main star of the Telenovela (Eva Longoria) doesn't even ...speak Spanish!

Although they *not* belong in the same genre, it is unavoidable to compare this, with another telenovela-ish series, Jane the Virgin (which I stopped watching after its first season finale). Telenovela is far more entertaining and light and fun and spares you from watching an actual melodrama.

In a sentence: This is a witty comedy that will keep you entertained.

A Light Watch
shinji945856 January 2016
i Love it... expect the show to be light and funny. A nice watch if you just want a silly/ slap stick show. i love how all the characters make me laugh with them and at them. it kinda makes fun of the Spanish soaps, which i love cuz my sisters use to watch them and how silly i thought they were. its nice to see Eva doing a show thats in her element. i always find myself wanting more. the show reminds me of happy endings, its packed with funny and embarrassing moments. the show is not for everyone, and to have a comedy thats extremely well rounded like modern family is hard to do, so don't expect a show like that. if you want a silly and quick laugh, this show is for you.

Pretty funny, very dopey
cherold14 December 2015
I watched the first couple of episodes of this one. It's a very silly sitcom about life on the set of a telenovel series, with Eva Longoria as the shallow but well-meaning star dealing with the jealous ex-star and a host of insecure actors.

The comedy is very broad, with pratfalls and sex jokes and punchlines underlined and bolded, but it's often quite funny, and I certainly laughed out loud a number of times in each episode.

It's also very dumb and silly. Not smart-dumb, like Brooklyn 99, but straight-out, old-school mindless dumb. If there weren't so many other comedy series I like better (Brooklyn 99, Simpsons, The Grinder, Morty and Rick, Life in Pieces, Inside Amy Schumer, etc.) I would keep watching it, but there's only so much time in the day and it's a bit too dumb for me to fully enjoy, so I'll leave this one alone.

But it is funny.

Best Show & So Funny
alek2000123 January 2016
I started watching Eva Longoria's new show Telenovela when it played on TV for the preview episodes and now I never miss an episode this show is so funny and makes me and my whole family laugh every week when we watch it. Each episodes has a different story but always has the same main characters in it. I find each episodes keeps getting more funny every week and I think I'm going to buy it on iTunes or something so I can have all the episodes. This is a great new show and I think everyone should start to watch it every week on Mondays at 8:30pm. I really do hope that NBC renews this show for a second season because so many people I know like watching it every week. I rate Telenovela 10 out of 10 stars.

Fun!
preppy-38 December 2015
Bright, VERY colorful and amusing comedy about a beautiful actress (Eva Longoria) who's the star of a Spanish soap opera (they're called telanovels). She has to deal with back-stabbing costars, her hunky ex (who is playing her love interest in the show) and various attractive men and women.

It moves QUICKLY, has a bright tight script, good acting (Longoria is obviously having fun) and has plenty of cheesecake AND beefcake (a running joke has a particularly handsome muscular guy constantly tearing his shirt off). The plot has been done before but it's done well here. Hopefully it can be consistently clever and funny for a long run. Recommended.

Muy STUPIDO - Latinos Deserve Far Better
Man992045 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot believe anything this NOT FUNNY would be given a series.

The basic problem here is the writing. It is stale and awkward and totally devoid of anything even remotely funny. The characters are just embarrassingly bad - particularly the "Gay best friend".

Eva Longoria just cannot do comedy. She has a very limited range. Comedy is not within that range. There is also absolutely NO chemistry between Longoria and Levy.

Latinos deserve a genuinely funny sitcom - this is so NOT it. Watch it quickly, it will not be around past the initial ten episodes. Thank Goodness.

Finally a good comedy show
tareqd88 January 2016
It is funny and I like it so far, please keep it up :) recommended as comedy TV show, so the TV is full of comedy shows but for me it is hard to find a good quality one ... this one seems to be a good quality and funny one.

Characters are perfect for the story, the script of the show seems to be good quality too, Eva is one of the funniest characters especially at Desperate housewives. Viewers are thirsty for this kind of shows so well done for all the cast and hope it will get much better over time as any successful TV show.

I hope this can be spread to other TV channels soon with different subtitles etc

Surprisingly decent comedy
dreamgavino8 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It's a funny coincidence that I am currently rewatching Desperate Housewives (I'm now on season 4) and I stumbled upon the pilot of this show. When it began, who do I see but Gabrielle Solis acting like how Gabrielle Solis would act if she were given her own show.

The Good:

Eva Longoria has great comedic timing.

I really enjoyed the nice shots of the sets (clean, bright, colorful, etc.)

There are some very laugh out loud moments (Don't look at me, I'm a monster LOL)

Zachary Levi speaking Spanish? Yes please.

The Bad:

A bit predictable? You could only do so much with the plot.

While it has a sort of campy charm, they overdid it a bit with the camp. Toning it down will help in making this show more digestible.

All things considered, I'd watch it again. Hope it improves though.

I hope NBC gives this a chance to mature
taos6510 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
• I just mini binge-watched all 4 episodes of Telenovela broadcast to date, and have no idea what would be spoilers or not, so just warning, there might be some. •

I really liked what I've seen so far, but it's a little rough around the edges. The cast of characters is nearly perfect, but at this point, the show needs to develop these characters more than concentrate on love lives. Ana needs to be more miserable about the presence of her ex on the show, with more opportunities for them to have to appear together in public. And more time needs to be devoted to showing the filming of Las Leyes de Pasíon and Ana's script problems - exacerbated by the blood alcohol or pharmaceutical status of the scriptwriter.

Ana's typical American conundrum of not speaking the language of her nationality instantly recalled for me an interview I saw with My Name Is Earl co-star Nadine Velazquez. Her character, Catalina, spoke fluent Spanish; Velazquez, not so much. She admitted she had to learn Spanish to do interviews for Spanish- language networks, and that anyone who knows Spanish would recognize that, when Catalina went off in Spanish, it was usually some silly message from Nadine breaking the 4th wall instead.

I'll admit, I was never quite a fan of Longoria, but I love her in this show because her TV character is the one with the sex appeal, the perfection, the unattainable beauty - whereas Ana is human, flawed, insecure, vulnerable.

And her Miami is the Miami I just left a few years ago after grad school. Unless you live in Little Havana, on Calle Ocho, you can live comfortably without Spanish. But not without at least the semblance of glamour, no matter your income level.

The show isn't gut-splitting funny, but it's amusing. It needs to exploit the wealth of character that's just beneath its fear of success. It's not Ugly Betty or Jane the Virgin; i.e., it's not an American rip-off of an already existing telenovela. It's a parody of the genre (and from what I can see, also a funny look at the reality of being an American of Latin descent, as opposed to Latino, in Miami). But I can't figure out so far why it's afraid to run with that, the way Soap did with American soap operas. For sure, this will never be Soap en Español, but it can carve out a little niche for itself, like NBC's fish-out- of-water series, Welcome to Sweden.

I hope Telenovela doesn't make the mistake that Outsourced did - lose its focus very early. There's a market for a Latin-American sit- com. I was hoping Cristela would be it and was very disappointed when it wasn't renewed. Longoria is well- established in the TV business, but can she make this show a winner? I sure hope that's one of Las Leyes de Pasíon.

Actually Funny; I took a chance & It was Worth It!
bbriddell8 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I usually don't write a review for the pilot episode & I think by the end of this season NBC will have a hit.

The only other comedy show I watch is The Big Bang Theory. I love comedies & there just aren't that many that are fun nor funny. There are too many dramas: NCISSS, CSIII, Criminal Minds, Quantico, Chicago Fire/Med/PD, Law & Orderererer. Other comedy shows I've tried: Modern Family, Gary Shandling, Seinfeld; and several others I've watched over the years.

The acting, writing, & directing are gre8! The actors/actresses are top rate and draw you into the story.

If you work in a corporation; you will most likely find this show funny. There were a couple of parts that slowed down for me & it was gre8 to laugh at something that was actually funny when it picked back up.

Ep 1 Two main characters take a selfie while committing a crime. The main character asks the writer, "How drunk were you last night". The Gay guy stress eating. The macho guy has a cat.

Ep 2 The open door policy (no secrets). Two of the characters slept together & while giving the details the main character started gagging. Main character talking to writer. Writer plugs his ears stating, "Spoiler alert". Main character, "You wrote it".

The show is different & will have to carve out it's niche. This was worth the risk of watching & finally funny.

Thank you to NBC & the production team. I look forward to the next episode.

Probably to multicultural for white america

This was a great show, I definitely didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I don't even like that many sit-coms, but I thought it was genuinely funny, and not the fake funny that the main stream crap is. All the actors were great and very likable characters. Wish this would've continued this series.

Good Enough
PennyReviews28 June 2019
Telenovela was good enough. The main story was idiotic and didn't end well, but the drama had a feel good vibes to it and it was lighthearted and funny at times. The characters were okay too.
