Beats Ice Road Truckers
Aunt_Agonist20 January 2015
Stumbled across this on 'QUEST' while channel hopping. Having been a fan of Ice Road Truckers for a while, I was getting bored with the on screen 'conflict' between shipping companies then found this gem from Australia. Firstly, they drive on the right side of the road (the left) the language and sense of humour etc are more recognisable to my Brit way of thinking. It's not all about the language though, I get a real sense of camaraderie between drivers and their co-drivers and the people they come across, quite often the co-drivers are spouses, because of this personal connection IRT does appear cold, no pun intended. OT shows locals gathering together to help drivers get out of sticky situations. They often invite drivers to their homes and feed and water them, offer advice about local road black spots and weather. All in all I look forward to seeing OT in the 'My recordings' folder.

Interesting sort of.

The narrator says, "they're barreling down the highway at 100 kilometers per hour" which to Americans sounds REALLY fast until you realize that is 62.5 miles per hour. Granted that is probably pretty fast on some of those roads. This show is great if you're looking to numb your mind. Tends to be melodramatic but the countryside is interesting

OVERLY DRAMATIC
simonjamestatt28 April 2020
A good series. Well seasons 1 & 2 anyway. Pity about the crazily overdramatic music and narration. One gets the impression that if a lizard were to pop out from under a rock and stare at the rig for some reason, it might burst into flames and destroy the entire Outback. The rig, not the lizard .... although.

Stop the overly dramatic narration
dlhairman17 September 2019
Interesting subject matter, but the narration is terrible! Every single step anyone takes could lead to disaster! The narration ruins an otherwise good show. I like the drivers, the equipment, the challenges, the backwoods roads, and the scenery, but sometimes I have to shut off the sound, because it SUCKS!! Stop the dramatics!

Great ride along through the outback

Seasons 1 and 2 were great. A nice peek into the world of an outback trucker. Beautiful scenery, ingenious roadside repairs, and interesting characters make it a fun show. Season 3 is almost ruined by the narrator's manufactured drama. Every single scene is "If the driver doesn't do (whatever), the consequences could be catastrophic". Hope the following seasons get back to the original style.

Great show but spoilt by over dramatised commentary. Oz show not over the top Yankee show

Great Show! These Tiny Isolated Villages Couldn't Survive Without The Truckers!
collectorofsorts27 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I just found this series recently and liked it enough to binge watch it. It's a great show. Lot's of tiny towns in 'the outback' that these truckers deliver to. And, when I say small, I mean between 3 and a few hundred people per town. The roads are unbelievably harsh and the drivers never know if they'll finish their deliveries or be stuck in a flooded area for months (which has happened). Lot's of great truckers and one that's not so great ('Turbo'). These guys work like a family. If need be, they'll lose a day helping a trucker or even tourist who's broken down. Doesn't matter if they know them or not. The towns are the same. If they hear a trucker is broken down or bogged down in the dirt roads, they come out to help. It's a great show about a great bunch of people! Highly recommended! (Would have been a 10 Star if not for the annoying commentor who makes every small thing seem like a near disaster) Just FYI from visiting their fan page: Trucker on the show, Noelene Turner, has passed away. As has Dougal Brett from one of the cattle stations we saw during season 1 (helicopter crash). And, the 'car crusher guy' (McDonough) was convicted of aggravated assault on two 16 year old boys. One of the boys was hurt so bad that he had to drop out of school and required several surgeries and rehabilitation (a baseball bat was involved). McDonough was sentenced to prison.

Mostly set to dramatically enhance the troubles of outback truckers.

A lot of the events are just set on purpose but it shows the immense emptiness of Australia that may seem depressing to some but enlightening to me. The immense emptiness that has some similarities of the African Sahara. Something to make you feel very small...

Way to dramatic

Seems like they are trying to copy the stupid american style of bad TV. All the episodes are made for people with IQ of 10.

Aussie Truckers
dm-6253913 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After watching nearly two seasons of the show. Outback beats Ice Road.

They are always shifting locations and jobs in Australia, not being confined to Dalton or battle of the trucking companies.

Nice to see the difference between Australia s and USA and Canada's rigs.

Cab overs and Conventional s and their enormous road trains that make our Rocky Mountain Triples look like toys.

Good series, highly recommend it.

too dramatic

You know you are driving on a mud road. Why do you not have chains on tires, like you would for snow and ice. You know there's a bunch of dirt on the bridge, clean it before you try. Super boggy. Take the trailers one at a time. Get that road scrapper out there to get the water to drain. I feel like these situations where purposefully staged.
