Some scars never heal
nogodnomasters30 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
15 years ago Emma (Mhairi Calvey) was raped at knifepoint. She has a facial scar and carries a larger emotional scar. Ahe finds herself abducted by members of the Foreign Legion. There are two other captives and they manage to escape and must work together. One of the captives is Ben (Tyron Ricketts) the man convicted of her rape. The other person is Jamie (Martin Kaps) the only person who spoke up for Ben at the trial. She doesn't trust either one.

The film is about women who have been abused and having to move on. It has a couple of twists but still wasn't that great.

Guide; F-word. No nudity. Brief flashing rape scene.

not a typical thriller, don't expect a mainstream movie
LS2031 August 2019
The main theme is rape. So it is not a film for entertainment only. It is sometimes hard stuff, in psychological sense. Is it worth to watch it? Yes, but take time.

Conclusion: It is an exciting film with a serious background and a special fine end.

Not a bad little movie. Amateurish, underdeveloped, predictable, but deals with a very serious problem, so deserves at least a 5.

Not good.

Warning: Spoilers
A woman on the run from ruthless kidnappers discovers her rescuer is the man jailed for attacking her 15 years earlier. That's the story behind director Juliane Block's (Kinks, 8 Remains) new film.

Emma wakes up to find herself trapped in an abandoned bunker along with two other victims - Ben and Jamie - and they're all on the run from three brutal ex-solders. Faced with either staying in the bunker or running away with the man who assaulted her and his friend, she chooses the second option.

Why have they been kidnapped? Why are Ben and Jamie there? Who is the real enemy? Those questions - and more - will be answered. There are also several brutal moments in this film, including a spoken part where the soldiers discuss what the animals that they rely on for carnal pleasure. It's incredibly disgusting and if I say that, just imagine what that could entail.

That said, the film didn't hold my interest at all. I kept turning it up hoping that a louder volume would help keep my interest. No matter how loud it got, I kept tuning it out.

I have wasted few minutes of my life watching this movie, I say few because I kept fast forwarding it , it is a low budget with untalented wannabees from the director to the last actor

Thriller only!!!, it should be Drama only or Mystery is why did they make it, a lot of irrelevant Drama 95% for a short play time, I skipped through the crap, weak storyline, very drawn out slow going, bad acting or reading a bad script, total garbage, its like watching cement/paint dry.

Very Confusing Flick
carolk-3481328 September 2022
While the premise of the movie was a good one, I found it to be very hard to follow. It seemed very odd that someone would go to prison for a rape that he didn't commit for financial gain. The kidnappers were not very convincing and their acting very mediocre, especially Piggie, played by Victor Alfieri.

While this movie was considered to be a thriller, it didn't hold much suspense for me. It got to be boring as they were continually walking in the forest.

I think the best part was when the real rapist was discovered and then how he was dealt with. He thought he was never going to be found out.

Good plot, poor execution!

An independent, slow moving, feminist, psychological thriller that's worth a watch
wulverin17 September 2019
I really enjoyed 3 Lives. It's a slow moving, feminist psychological thriller about the damage unresolved trauma can cause, about the violent consequences of retribution and about the fundamental question of how to forgive something that can't be forgiven. It's certainly not an easy watch, but in the end I found it rewarding.

The performances of cast and crew are great. Mhairi Calvey's performance definitely stood out to me the most but her co-stars Martin Kaps and Tyron Ricketts are great too. Maja-Celiné Probst's take on the disturbed victim Jo is amazing, especially if you know some of her earlier work. There's a lot of talent!

The performances of Anatole Taubman, Pete Riley and Victor Alfieri as the three kidnappers are spot on. It took me a while to really understand what their role in all this is and why director Juliane Block decided to not make them into the typical villains, but eventually it all made sense.

Here's a general thing about 3 Live: You've got to follow while watching it. I like that in a movie but I'm oldschool that way. I was surprised when I saw the awful ratings and reviews 3 Lives got on IMDB and other places on the internet. I can see how it isn't for everyone, but 1 star reviews, really? Was it really that bad? I watched the movie with a pretty big, diverse group of friends and none of them was that dismissive of it.

My take on it is, if you don't get distracted by haters or by the sensational axe murderer poster that's going around online (There's NO axe murderer in the entire movie and it's NOT your run of the mill action flick! Why? Who would market the film as such?) and if you sit down and engage with the movie, you'll find 3 Lives to be a bold, high-quality independent film with an attitude and a strong message that will make you think.

exiting movie with a serious topic
Andy-3015931 August 2019
Okay it is not a mainstream movie, but for the small budget it's a nice one. I enjoyed it the second time. The topic may not fit to everyone, but it's important to support this kind of movies. I can't understand some people who wrote b*ll*h*t about thos movie.

new perspectives round about rape
ereinhardt-6018928 June 2020
This film definitely brought new perspectives on the theme of guilt, guilty party, perpetrator and victim and the famous drama triangle. It is also interesting that one of the protagonists used money to buy liberation from his guilt, while another protagonist staged guilt and revenge for another person. In the whole rather plainly depicted plot, an oversized deep complexity of human motives for action was depicted very vividly.

What I found good and remarkable was the probably very feminine approach in the end - the renunciation of (natural) revenge. This was a great moment in the film. If we want to look at peace, wherever it may be, this is probably the only possible way.

Despite the very small budget, the director managed to create emotionally extremely profound moments, which were also expressed in the very special and aesthetic camera work through many close-ups. The film music supported the whole thing emphatically.

The movie surely isn't an easy entertainment film, but because of its statement about an important topic between men and women and especially because of its ending it is a remarkable movie, which hopefully gets a lot of attention. Thank you very much for this movie, which with its not quite usual theme expands the psychological trill genre and hopefully provides us with something to talk about because of the new perspectives.

Nifty thriller
Woodyanders4 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Emma (a fine performance by Mhairi Carey) finds herself stuck on a remote island with two men who she doesn't trust. Worse yet, the trio are being mercilessly hunted by three other very nasty men.

Director Juliane Block relates the absorbing story at a constant pace, generates a good deal of tension, and makes nice use of the isolated tropical island setting. Both Tyron Ricketts as the ruthlessly determined Ben and Martin Kaps as selfish rich jerk Jamie do well in their roles. The surprise brutal twist at the end packs a vicious punch as well as makes a provocative statement about the ugly nature of revenge. A cool little flick.
