Run of the Mill

Warning: Spoilers
This was kind of silly, but I kept watching to see what would happen. Girl gets raped in home invasion while on video call. Mom sees the whole thing but can't stop it.

They move to a "nice" neighborhood where crime never happens. Yeah, right. We end up with peeping, stalking, extra material stairs, underaged sex, illegal commerce, boosting cars, and murder. So much for "nice" neighborhoods.

Anyway I think the title refers to our protagonist as she seems to be the only one stalking her neighbors.

Pretty predictable, but you could do worst during the pandemic.

The one sour note for me is she's ready to blame a neighbor for murder, who is pretty much a thug (he's selling stolen car parts), but the minute he tells her he likes her, she does a 180.

Really? Is that so it takes? Some cute guy, says I like you and the female brain turns to mush?

Who writes this stuff???

This movie was stupid
sharilyn007 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, the writers had it all wrong! The "victim" was the one doing the stalking--filming neighbors with her camera w/o permission, following people, breaking into houses, etc. And a teenager who was supposedly traumatized from being raped only 3 mos. before was the one doing all this? The father of her boyfriend came on scene toward the end-who was supposedly out of town-yet he knew who she was even tho they'd never met. And the premise she used to get into the killer's house was ridiculous-I mean she lived across the street and needed to use HIS bathroom to fix her contact?? The killer's accomplice had a key yet she climbed over his wall/fence to enter his home using thus key? Give me a break. I mean it was ridiculous and very predictable. Not a very good movie at all. Waste of two hours.

Do you know what your doing to the property values around here!
kapelusznik184 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** Recovering from a brutal rape during a home invasion Jodi Allen, Kelcie, Stranhan, and her single mom Andera, Amy Pietz, who witnessed the rape but was helpless to prevent it are now in a new and what seems like safer neighborhood trying to start a new life and forget about the past. Things don't turn out that way with Jodie a photo freak spying on her neighbors and photographing them like in the 1954 movie "Rear Window" and prying into their private lives.

It's when Jodie notices someone in shadow snooping around her next door neighbor real estate agent Lisa Miller's, Kelly Packard, house she goes whole hog wild to catch the culprit. Going so far as breaking into Lisa's house and almost, by breaking and entering, getting arrested for doing it! It's the next day that Lisa is herself murdered by getting her skull cracked open by a house invader that Jodi jumps the gun accusing another next door neighbor Nick Tompkins, Grant Harvey, whom she had already accused of stealing her camera, of murdering Lisa.

This not only throws by the cop in charge the friendly detective Franklin, Dorien Wilson, suspicion on Jodi but Lisa's live-in niece Kristen, Katinna Norman, of being somehow involved in Lisa'a murder! It was later the Jodi fell in love with the cute Nick Tompkins whom she realized couldn't kill a fly much less a human being-Lisa Miller-whom she at first fingered as Lisa's murderer!

***SPOILERS*** We soon get to see that it was the grieving Kristen together with her hot in the pants as well as greasy looking, like a young Charles Bronson without his famous mustache, boyfriend car mechanic Ted Wilcox, Ethan Erickson, who did Lisa in to get their greedy hands on her 4 million dollar bank account and real estate properties. The two lover also went so far as to frame the innocent Nick by placing the murder weapon, a lead pipe, in Nick's house just where the police lead by Det. Franklin, with a search warrant, could find it! Now with her boyfriend Nick facing life behind bars due to her at first fingering him in Lisa's murder Jodie goes all out to exonerate him by tracking down, with her camera, Lisa's killers. Which one of them Ted being filmed by her, as she was hiding in his closet, being video taped having his brains blown out by his "lover" Kristen so she can get all of Lisa's money and make his death look like a suicide.

Over the top ending with Jodi having it out with Kristen, who kidnapped her, in the woods with her mom Andera coming to her rescue only to end up getting shot at point blank range by the dead eyed sharp shooting Kristen. But instead of dropping dead Andera like the biblical Lazarus ends up coming back from the dead, was she wearing a bullet proof vest or girdle, and whacking Kristen from behind before she could do, with her about to blow Judi away, any more damage.

Hmmm 🤔

So the acting was terrible but had some eye candy in it which helped me finish the film. It almost reminded me of Disturbia but I actually liked that film. It's alright if you can't find anything else to watch!

The acting is pretty bad
mscoachj28 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I like the premise of the movie and I was really looking forward to watching it but holy moly the acting of the women are really bad and it's just fitting for a 5.2 or so. And if she is so afraid from her attack then how in the world is she so bold to run around following people into the woods it just doesn't make any sense. It had potential but they just couldn't get it there. If you're bored then it's worth watching. I'm actually just trying to make this long enough so I can submit it. I don't understand why it has to be so dang long ha ha I said what I had to say and now I'm just saying extra words to make it long.

Same old LMN stuff
geoffox-766-41846719 July 2016
Same idea, same story-line, same boring actors and same boredom in watching. However it's good when you're working at your desk and need some sound to break the silence. Not having to watch the silly nonsense is a treat, believe me. I won't mention names as I don't want to promote these bad poker faced actors. Plot wise without delving into specifics so as to not let you know the contents (you must be forced to watch this tripe). The leading lady is so wrong for the role. Although the role has something to be desired. This film is trying to make a hero out of a snoopy young thing that goes around taking candid pictures of her neighbors without their permission. Totally in the wrong, she expects sympathy? You gotta be kidding. You want her to get her up-pence. There is no compassion for someone who goes around accusing innocent people and interfering with their lives. Get a life, sweetie.

All those stalkers ...
kosmasp28 March 2018
... so little time. Although as someone else pointed out, this is not really accurate ... or rather a bit missleading. Which isn't a bad thing, if you consider that the movie itself is fairly easy to see through. At the beginning you may feel like me - confused. Because it's like alright, this is way crazy. Then you get the reveal and you're like ... ah well.

The thing is, the movie may work until that moment. Somewhat work. But after that moment? It's downhill from there. It's almost a shame, but then again the acting might be an indicator ... a sort of warning sign. This is obviously a movie made for TV. And not HBO TV or Netflix if you count that as TV (some even call the latter the death bringer of TV). Anyway, very predictable from that one reveal and really not daring that much - not to mention all the crazy characters and their slow thinking - to put it mildly

Not a classic, but still good
jwayne_2418 April 2015
A girl and her mom move to the suburbs after the daughter survives a terrifying ordeal in her city apartment. The girl likes to take photographs and some of her photographs convince her that her neighbors are not what they seem to be.

Of course, like a lot of TV films, the girl suspects the wrong person of stalking her and doesn't realize her mistake until it's almost too far gone.

I feel like the big reveal of the killer could have waited until closer to the end, and that there could have been a bit more drama, but all in all not a bad movie to watch on a Saturday night.

The title isn't accurate but still quite entertaining
phd_travel10 September 2017
The title isn't quite accurate. Not a stalking movie at all. The story is about a teen girl who is raped in the city moves to the burbs with her mom. She is still a little paranoid and starts taking pictures of her neighbors. There is a murder of her neighbor and then she proceeds to uncover things. Things move quite quickly as her suspicions about the murderer change.

Worth one watch.

Peeping Tina
wes-connors24 May 2015
Alone in her West Hollywood condo, pretty blonde teenager Kelcie Stranahan (as Jodi Allen) is attacked and raped by an intruder while talking to her mom on laptop video. Three months later, single mom Amy Pietz (as Andrea Allen) has moved her daughter to a presumably safer suburb near the Angeles Crest Mountains. Still skittish, Ms. Stranahan occupies herself taking photographs of the neighbors. With her zoom-lens, she specializes taking pictures of handsome young men in the neighborhood. Stranahan is a real "Peeping Tom" (or, more appropriately, a "Peeping Tina"). An obvious favorite is muscular young Grant Harvey (as Nick Thompkin). Stranahan happily catches him washing his truck while wearing only a baggy pair of sweat-shorts...

This ends up being an ordinary and very predictable "Lifetime" TV movie thriller, but you have to give writer-director Doug Campbell credit for so obviously portraying heroine Stranahan with what some might consider a character flaw; apparently, she takes "half naked" photos of young men for her own personal enjoyment. She also takes pictures of her neighbors' windows at night. Soon, she thinks she has witnessed a deadly crime. This updates what many correctly saw as perverse subtext in Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window" (1954). But, back to this story. The camera angles are nicely done, especially when Stranahan checks another neighbor's house for an intruder while wearing her own little shorts. "Lifetime" knows its PG audience.

***** Stalked by My Neighbor (2015-03-21) Doug Campbell ~ Kelcie Stranahan, Grant Harvey, Amy Pietz, Katrina Norman

Warning: Spoilers
After being assaulted in her own apartment, a traumatized girl moves with her mother into a so called better neighborhood only to fall victim to quite a situation there.

The wealthy neighbor is murdered and suspicion falls on a young guy who has had difficulty with her. Our heroine loves to take pictures and it appears that the guy did it. However, hold on. The girl falls for the guy and tries to get him cleared. Wait until you see who the real fiends are; it just shows you that money among relatives may be a motivating factor for murder.

All the leads are quite good. Naturally, we have the suspicious police chief who is at first ready to call the case solved. Naturally, we have harrowing scenes once the truth is uncovered.

Love conquers all, even murder.

Straight forward LMN fun
metfan4124 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
No real twists or turn just good late night fun. This story follows Jodi as she recovers from a traumatic attack in her own home, as her mom looks on through the webcam.

They both look for a fresh start in a new neighborhood outside of the city. As she begins to spend her time observing the neighbors from her bedroom, she notices some strange behavior.

Soon Lisa, a next door neighbor that is raising her niece, winds up dead. The whodunnit points fingers at the mechanic Jody has a crush on or another creepy neighbor named Ted who's marriage is in shambles. But could it even be the niece Kristen, behind it all?

Just okay .. not WOW .. but to be fair there were some thrilling moments ..
Aktham_Tashtush5 April 2015
it's a good movie for a TV style... Good storyline , the writers did a nice job,, thou how ever it gets it stays a TV movie ... not that excitement you see in theaters .. i kinda felt the acting was no where on point it's like really "acting".

So it starts with a girl being stalked to girl falls into the game so deep and turns into a stalker somehow and try to incriminate the whole neighborhood to figure out the real killer.

The plot is really good but they kinda revealed the killer so soon, they could have delayed it till the end or so --. There are some holes here and there like i mean one of the things i noticed that a woman has been murdered and no funeral !! come on !! it's useless but still somebody has died !!

They also kinda congested the whole thrill to the final 20 or 15 minutes. The cast was okay but the leads looked new on this.

overall the movie is just okay ... yes i endured watching the whole 70 minutes but it's not my cup of tea ... just a normal movie night on TV :\

Stalked?
bt698nhj26 March 2023
Like others have said, this movie is misnamed. There's not one central person here who's being stalked, but there is a person with a camera who is playing Nancy Drew. Not terrible for a lifetime movie. Lots of gaffes as usual though. Neighbors trying to sneak around but walking right out to each other's homes in broad daylight doesn't make it easy to keep an affair private. That was ridiculous. There were some other ridiculous gaffes and plot holes but that's par for an LMFC.

ABOUT MY REVIEWS:

I do not include a synopsis of the film/show -- you can get that anywhere and that does not constitute a meaningful review -- but rather my thoughts and feelings on the film that hopefully will be informative to you in deciding whether to invest 90-180 minutes of your life on it.

My scale: 1-5 decreasing degrees of "terrible", with 5 being "mediocre" 6- OK. Generally held my interest OR had reasonable cast and/or cinematography, might watch it again 7 - Good. My default rating for a movie I liked enough to watch again, but didn't rise to the upper echelons 8- Very good. Would watch again and recommend to others 9- Outstanding. Would watch over and over; top 10% of my ratings 10 - A classic. (Less than 2% receive this rating). For Lifetime Movies for Chicks (LMFC), drop the above scale by 3 notches. A 6 is excellent and 7 almost unattainable.

Slick Photography, Good Suspense
lavatch31 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Don't be misled by the film's title. "Stalked by My Neighbor" was an especially well photographed film with great camera angles and set-ups. The use of the camera by the protagonist, Jodi Allen, contributed to the cinematography, as well as the dramatic tension. It was much more than a "stalker" film.

Jodi suffered a brutal assault from an intruder at her mother's condo in West Hollywood. Andrea Allen has now moved with her daughter to a home in a "safe" neighborhood in suburbia. Of course, it is not safe at all after a kind neighbor, Lisa Miller, is murdered.

Jodi has captured images on her camera that may hold the key to understand who killed Lisa. The first suspect is Nick Thompkin, who would appear to have a motive because Lisa had called the cops on him and put him out of business working on cars illegally out of his home. But appearances can be deceiving, as Jodi soon discovers.

The most interesting relationship in the film is the improbable romance that develops between the wiseacre Nick and Jodi. Their scenes together were terrific, beginning with their first dance at the club where Jodi has followed him.

In addition to the good chemistry between Jodi and Nick, there was a heartfelt relationship between Jodi and her mom, who was traumatized by the earlier assault possibly as much as her daughter. Kristen Chambers, the niece of the deceased neighbor, holds the key to unraveling the mystery.

There was a devilish tongue-in-cheek approach to the drama implicit in the snappy dialogue that was well-played by the excellent cast. There was a nifty denouement with Jodi and her auto mechanic friend waxing philosophical about the circumstances of their meeting. Form and content combined for a well-crafted film.

An absolute classic
succman22222 September 2019
I've seen a good deal of Lifetime movies and without question, Stalked by My Neighbor is one of the most well crafted, especially in terms of how the trials of Neighbors are explored. The movie leans on the usual Lifetime melodrama, but also invests time to develop Jodi Allen as a believable, grounded character. This includes a masterful early montage that establishes the repetition, tedium, and denied relief she experiences. This is potent, realistic content that deserves more eyes, though of course, the movie soon pivots into a thriller. Even then, Jodi's mental health and vulnerable state are factors in how the thriller elements unfold, so while there's the melodrama, this is very well written and executed. The shifts between grounded and melodrama might seem like they'd be jarring, but that isn't the case and Stalked by My Neighbor isn't a wild, over the top ride like some Lifetime movies, more of a grounded thriller that dials things up when needed. Still a good amount of drama and a fun thriller, but it does a lot more than just provide a simple whodunit, so the movie deserves some solid credit. If you have even a minor interest in Lifetime cinema or just want to see a skilled take on the tribulations of Neighbors, give Stalked by My Neighbor a look.

Ridiculous
haroot_azarian14 July 2023
One of the other contributors hit the nail on the head when they said the title of the movie was wrong. In fact it was in fact Jodi who was the stalker, photographing the neighbors without their knowledge like a peeping tom, and following them and breaking into their homes.

The story line per usual was ridiculous. Jodi had massive trauma only three months earlier when she was raped at home. And yet here she is drooling over a neighbor boy taking pictures of him even after he catches her doing it. I do not want to assume anything about rape victims in real life nor do I wish to disrespect them, but to me it seemed far-fetched that someone like Jodi who at such a young fragile age goes through such a horrific experience and apart from a few scenes where she is on edge and jumpy, for the rest of the movie she acts so normal and even gets romantically drawn to the neighbor boy whom she has only known for three weeks.

And the lecture Nick gives Jodi's mom was just pathetic. The movie tried to copy Hitchcock's Rear Window and the newer Shia Labeouf movie Disturbia, both of which were in the league of their own.

Squandered Potential
dougdoepke30 July 2023
Plot briefly - daughter Jody is cruelly raped in city apartment, after which loving Mom moves them to supposed safety of upscale suburbia. But is it. We'll see.

What interested me was youthful Jodi's traumatized mental state after being raped by a stranger. Actress Stranahan does a good job in this early part expressing mental imbalance without going over the top. For example, her fascination with sneaky photography of neighbors could be traceable to that trauma, or her accusing boy Nick of the later murder crime without evidence could also be a result.

Too bad the screenplay soon returns her to normality through turn-around puppy love with neighbor Nick. Then too, suspense is undercut by a too-early reveal of the killer that removes the fun of a guessing game. Without these give-aways, we might even suspect Jodi as the killer, imbalanced as she initially is. That unknown would have considerably raised the movie's suspense level to a fascinating degree. Instead, the screenplay opts for a more conventional type suspense rather than exploring the rich potential of Jodi's lingering trauma.

Nonetheless, the flick has several notable touches - the real suburban neighborhood with its upscale homes; the unusual all-girl showdown, poorly done though it is; and good crisp eye-catching photography.

All in all, the suspenser strikes me as average at best, with a squandered potential at worst. Anyway, despite the downside, it's probably worth a quick look-see.
