A brainwashing app? No, thanks
antoniokowatsch15 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is about an app that literally brainwashes the users. The developers tried to fix some minor issues and messed it up in the process. To the point where it (the loading screen to be more precise) started to hypnotize/brainwash them. Basically everyone who get's brainwashed by the app starts to behave very differently (they get totally sexed-up and start to murder people).

If you think that sounds ridiculous you're absolutely right, because it is. No visual stimuli can bring about a complete change of character in such a manner. It's a literal impossibility.

Final verdict: the only movies which can get away with nonfactual elements such as these are movies which pertain to the fantasy or supernatural horror genre. Because at the end of the day even science-fiction is based on/requires actual scientific facts. With that being said I do consider this movie to be too fictional for its respective genre.

the last 30 minutes are okay
trashgang16 January 2017
Have seen a few flicks about apps going wrong or the use of internet making you berserk like Unfriended (2014), APP (2013) and Friend Request (2016) I knew what those flicks can do.

Other Halves is about an app for singles choosing your other half but naturally their is something wrong with the app which makes users become sexual active and killers. Looks promising but there are a few problems with the flick.

When the users go mad, they do kill but it's all on a low base. It's mostly done off-camera so for geeks of the genre there isn't that much to pick up. The score used do reminds you of those Italian giallo's and that's okay but overall this flick doesn't deliver the creeps. It is even stated as a comedy, not one laugh on my face. What I was surprised of was the amount of gratuitous nudity.

I can understand that teens will have some jumpy moments or will turn their face away sometimes but I missed the touch like those other flicks I mentioned before.

It's not all that bad, but it's one you will forget immediately after watching it. Let's say that the last 30 minutes are worth watching.

Truly shocking, but not in the horror sense
cypher-1723 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Wow! Haven't seen such a bad movie for a long time!

It's probably some of the worst acting I've seen, ever. Feels like a bunch of students got together and decided to shoot a horror movie but spent their whole budget on their lunch. The whole production value was so bad I lasted only about a third before I started fast forwarding.

Premise is ridiculous too - the only male programmer on the team introduces a "feature" - instead of showing the loading screen they had before the app now shows some garbage - flickering user profiles, which everyone suddenly considers a feature to die for (no pun intended). Apparently that somehow zombifies people that see the screen and makes them start murdering. From there on everything goes downhill and isn't even worth describing.

On a side note - the movie tries to be hip by showing some pointless, unneeded nudity, which to me means that those "actresses" were probably ready to do anything just to get the role.

Last, but not least, being a programmer, I found it funny that the code they show is some open source Objective-C and the default C# app template. I guess they're going native on all platforms at once (no Android though).

Either way, a rather random bunch of statements but it's hard to write anything constructive for such rubbish. Avoid at all costs and find other ways to waste your time if you have absolutely nothing else to do!

Ridiculous premise
Leofwine_draca1 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
OTHER HALVES is a really lousy indie horror flick with the dumbest plot ever: users of a new online dating app discover that it has the power to make them become evil. Yep, it's as simple - and stupid - as that, a film completely devoid of any kind of talent either behind or in front of the camera. This is just as badly made and acted as you'd expect and there are precisely zero reasons to watch.

OTHER HALVES is pretty damn sexy for an indie horror film.

OTHER HALVES is super-creepy, has a really cool under-lying concept and is pretty damn sexy for an indie horror film. I agree with some of the other reviewers about the cinematography and lighting being exceptional. I also really liked the use of saturated color. It reminded me of a 70's Italian horror flick and really added to the surrealism and sci-fi feel which is a nice twist on modern horror. I felt the acting was really intense and real which also really added to the experience. If you're into more intelligent horror, rather than just another SAW rip-off, this is your film! Highly recommend!

Quirky and Fun
ant36au31 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Unlike the other reviewers I honestly enjoyed this movie,it was quirky, fun, and different. The premise was somewhat original and the acting, although not great, wasn't't too over the top,as a B(and C),grade horror movie fan I have seen a lot worse, particularly in recent years. For me,a movie is to be enjoyed no matter what the genre and sitting around picking them to pieces is pointless and deliberately sets yourself up to NOT enjoy a movie. Other Halves had some original lines which I haven't heard in other movies and made me laugh, and the gratuitous nudity from two lovely looking ladies didn't do the movie any harm either,it also kept me second guessing as to who was doing what to whom almost to the end, which for me is a must, particularly when so many movies are so predictable these days right down to the wording. All in all, whilst not a movie I would watch more than once I would recommend Other Halves to any lover of B grade horror/thriller/slasher movies.

I think I found a bug
nogodnomasters22 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A team of programmers are working late at night attempting to work the bugs out of a new dating app. The app uses on-line information about who to match you up with another individual who you will like, making animated Asian women with FFF cups and metallic green hair very much in demand. In developing the app, a "glitch" is discovered which causes one to lose their inhibitions and act on impulse, most likely the result of flashing video images embedding themselves in the brain.

The big negative of this film was the low budget. We only get to see the results of the app within a small group of people in an office building...one with a shower, thank you. On the plus side was the characters and dialogue, things a low budget film needs to be successful. Devon (Lauren Lakis) is clever and quick witted. You love her right off the bat. The app turns would be protagonists into bad guys. I would also recommend watching the amusing end credits. A wicked blend of comedy, horror, and sci-fi.

Guide: F-word, sex, FF nudity (Lauren Lakis, Mercedes Manning, Philip Kamhi)
