Honestly, a nearly perfect, irredeemably AWFUL FILM
mariusar20 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Incredibly, as of this writing, there are 4 reviews of this "film" here on IMDb - 2 very much IMO spot on and 2 which I can only assume were written by shills associated with the project.

I am here to break the tie...Brace yourselves. The only ones who got it right were the 2 who felt as disgusted by this effort as I did. Here there may be spoilers, but really, if you've seen any kind of found footage horror film in the last 25 years, you have already seen this a thousand times before and, more importantly, a thousand times better.

Let's begin a brief dissection of the lowlights here: - First, this film is so bad that searching for it by its full title here on IMDb ("The Warning") actually yields NO RESULTS for it - clearly, even IMDb feels this film is so pathetic, that the only way to find this movie is to search by actor name.

  • Simple, totally derivative plots do not automatically make a film bad, so I am not slamming this film on that score. One sentence: prodigal daughter TV personality returns to Nowheresville, USA, enlisting two childhood friends in an effort to find the truth about rumours of Satanic activity in the region's woods. Sound familiar? It should because its essentially Blair Witch Project all over again. Keep that in mind as you read this...

  • Acting: I am historically very soft on films, usually trying my best to find some redeeming elements in even the very worst of efforts - people did spend time and effort in making movies. But here, the acting from the three main protagonists is just plain lousy. Unbelievable, beyond wooden, grounded in not a single shred of reality, and laughably terrible. Most notably cringeworthy is the performance from the actress playing "Angel" - I am sure she is a lovely person and I wish her nothing but the best, but in this film she is perhaps the most over-the-top, bad actress I have seen in quite some time. Of course, at least 50% of the blame for this must be directed towards the ...

  • Writing and Dialog: Bad performances are not always the actor's fault alone. Insipid writing and dialog usually share the blame and here it doesn't get much worse. Again, the character of Angel is simultaneously frustrating and stomach churning...in all the worst possible ways. Let's move on to...

  • Direction and Cinematography: All I can say is there was a complete absence of both here. On both scores, the production team surely said "let's just totally copy the original Blair With Project only let's change it to Satan worshippers instead!". Homages are fine. But outright duplication is another thing. What is really tragic is that despite having such a great film as their inspiration, the team here gets absolutely nothing right anyway. Any sense of mounting dread, impending doom and abject fear is drowned out by the aforementioned lousy writing and acting.

Truly, I have spent more time on this review than anyone should even watching this epically bad film. As for the twist ending? That doesn't even deserve mention as it is so horrifically bad and blatantly obvious.

As I said, I am usually very forgiving with my thoughts on films. Real people spent real time and real effort trying to make something. Unfortunately here, every single person's effort was a complete waste of time.

This film deserves a radiation warning tag on the box advising everyone to stay far, far away.

It's that bad. My own rating of "3" is probably too generous but that's about as low as I will ever go while still trying to respect the effort of those humans involved.

regards and Your Mileage Really Won't Vary with this one...

Seriously?

I mean, really? Surely if you want to make a new horror film you bring something to the table with you. Something inventive, original, creative, interesting. In short, something new. What you should not do is rearrange the leftovers of past classic horrorfests and present them as your own.

Here we have just that. Bitchy TV reporter, her dogsbody of an assistant and a cameraman proceed into the wild to track down a rumored Satanic cult. Surrounded on all sides by dangerous horror movie clichés they struggle through to the heart of darkness only to find .... but I'll leave that for you to discover. I had to suffer this tripe, now it's your turn! Best thing by far about the movie is the delightful Tiffany Joy Williams. Great looks and a capable actress, this girl could go a long way. I'm looking forward to seeing her again in films that allow her to better show her talents.

Avoid this one

Sometimes when an actor flubs their lines the director will make them do another take. That was just a little piece of advice please feel free to ignore it if you want. If you ever saw Blair Witch then you've already seen this movie there is no need to watch it. I am writing this review 2/3rd's into the movie but if there is a scene with a threesome near the end I will edit this review. Fingers crossed.

Just horrible
timothee-bzt24 August 2016
The other reviews are clearly fake, just 2/3 clicks and you can see this is the only review they've ever done, and all of them say exactly the same thing. Don't do like me who trusted the star ratings, I had to pour bleach onto my eyes to erase any traces of this film. There is no words to describe the mess it is, just a quick look at the horrible editing of the poster tells you all you need to know about the story, the acting, hell anything in it remotely trying to be considered a "movie". I have watched videos of cameras accidentally turning on that would have a better consideration than this excuse of a film. All I hope is that it was financially supported by the actors/filmmakers themselves otherwise I feel immensely sorry for the producers that thought founding this thing was a good idea. You want a warning? Here's one, do no watch this monstrosity

Warning: Spoilers
So, a while back I decided to look and see if there where any movies that take place in my hometown, Manitou Springs, CO. Turns out, this came up. I bookmarked it on Amazon and decided I'd take a watch someday. Today was the day, and holy cow was this bad. Now, there was a satanist epidemic here in the 70's and 80's. Go to the heritage center, and they'll tell you all about it, but this was just terrible. There where sacrifices, but they practically stopped after 1990. The "rural" spots they went to? A good minute hike from the trail in Garden of The Gods. I've been to mostof those spots. The acting is another thing. What in the sweet jimmity heck were they going for? At parts, it's like a comedy. At others, "Saving Private Ryan (Bootleg Chinese Version)" I know high schoolers that are better actors than that. Reminds me of that one Nick Cage movie, "U.S.S. Indianapolis." Except that one told a story based on a real event and not based on something from 50 years back.Minus 7 stars for quality. Minus 1 star for disrespect towards the area.

This was great!

I was lucky enough to catch an early screening of this and I was very impressed. A bitchy TV reporter returns to her hometown to shoot a pilot for a reality show investigating a local Satanic Cult. She drags her two best friends along and soon they are deep in the woods and completely out of their element.

The three leads are engaging and the mythology of the satanic cult was interesting and suitably creepy. I won't give anything away but the final act was extremely tense and genuinely had me on the edge of my seat. Good stuff! If you're a fan of found footage movies I definitely recommend it.

Stay out of the Woods!
jlraby18 May 2015
"The Warning" is a creepy, but fun ride that proves "You can't go back home." Summer Moore plays Taylor Skye, a bitchy TV reporter whose main goal in life is to become famous. She returns to her hometown of Manitou Springs, Colorado, once labeled "The Satanic Capital of the Western World." There she teams up with her high school sweetheart and her "wannabe" best friend to investigate an urban legend that she hopes will make her a TV celebrity. They interview a host of local weirdos and relatives of persons gone missing during the "Satanic Panic" of the late 1980's. Exploring the surrounding wilderness in search of evidence of current Satanic worship, they encounter strange happenings that lead up to a dramatic climax.

Good recipe for thrills and chills, with a dash of "campiness" and comedy. Guaranteed to keep you out of the woods after dark!

The Warning is more than you might expect.
brownjul-4589015 April 2017
When it comes to horror films, I prefer psychological tension and crisis. I didn't expect to get much of this in a found footage film documenting satanic rituals. I was pleasantly surprised. The film does its job of providing the things that go bump in the dark scares and the creepy satanic ritualistic folklore, but it goes one big step further with the gradual unveiling of the three main characters' backstories. The film, and actress Summer Moore, also peel layer after layer back exposing a multi faceted reporter, Taylor. At first, she is the bitch you kind of hope to see die..then she has a vulnerability you believe. ..then she is back to her ambitious, get ahead at all costs ways. She is skillfully portrayed as a true anti hero. I had moments where I was a bit tense, moments where I laughed with the characters, and moments where I found myself wondering...and caring...what was going to happen next. These, to me, are the signs of a good film.

True Story. Light Horror.
bowlingjteam8 April 2017
I really enjoyed this film. I'm from Colorado & heard stories in the 1980s about this area. I'm not a big found footage fan but was surprised liked it. Heard some of the buzz in CO for the film & many of the incidents in the film are taken from interviews of real people. Humorous & not gory (which I appreciate). I'd call it a "Light Horror" b/c the topic is eerie.
