To begin with, the first part of this review is not really a review of the show, but praise for the character of some of the people involved in its weekly creation. I work extensively with the Navy and am retired USN myself. One of the ships I was working on visited NYC during Fleet Week. During their visit, a few of the crewmembers met Adam Baldwin and Charles Parnell. From what these sailors were telling me, this was a very neat experience for them. I know firsthand, any acknowledgement or sign of gratitude is a big morale builder…but coming from folks like this…that is really cool. For that alone, I hope this show continues in its success. Well I am done with that. Good job on the show so far. This episode is moving the storyline along at a nice pace. I do have one suggestion though, could you tone down the good doctor a bit – other than that – excellent as always.

Back on land

Chandler is obsessed with the submarine. Dr. Scott says they need to go to Dr. Hunter's place to get some information that may help into making the vaccine airborne. What will they decide to do? Will Chandler accept that hunting the submarine is not the best path for helping humanity?

After the previous episode, "Long Day's Journey" brings the team on land, searching for the 'chosen ones' and trying to discover a little bit more of their plans. It does for a slow paced episode, where we get some of those I-have-seen-the-light speeches and where we get to know a little bit more of the cult people and their leaders. It is interesting enough, but nothing original. It is disappointingly predictable. Yes, there are some who believe they were chosen by a higher entity, and they want to become the rulers on Earth. This is a topic that is always interesting, the chance a show has to dwell on the possibility of an after life, or a higher entity, or something else, mixing what we see, hear, experience with our beliefs and hopes, but the writers of "The Last Ship" decide to keep things simple. Too simple. There are some people who have decided to believe they are immune because... Well, they were chosen.

The calm before the storm.
