really a death story, all predictable
trashgang23 January 2017
Oops, first minute or just before the opening credits we are already confronted with a murder. But hey, is this CGI blood. Guessed the rest of this flick would be a turn down.

And it was. It's slow and after a while naturally things go wrong in the house but so dull. I mean, things appear next shot disappeared and visa verso and that goes on and on and the wife being alone at the house of course she starts to see things. You know what, her husband doesn't believe her. And the nightmares, it's there that he is killed constantly. Evil mother in law,...

But no effects whatsoever. Lights flickering and a ghost walking around. Seen it all before but better done. The only thing well done is the ghost itself. She does remind me of the girl in The Ring franchise, you know, long black hair before her face.

But at the end, what a perfect title, the story was indeed death.

A few technical issues with the movie
wineviruse22 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Just wanted to mention a few of technical issues with the movie. There are some inaccuracies throughout the movie that could have been avoided during the edit. For instance:

When Anne is taking photos the camera shutter sound sometimes is not properly synced and is missed totally for some shots.

In 20:50 a boom pole together with a part of an operator's shirt can be seen.

Anne removes her jacket twice in the same timeline, 21:33, then she enters the bedroom and is wearing the jacket and again takes it off.

In 50:10, Harold pretends to pour wine into the glasses. The head of the bottle can be seen in the shot, no wine is pouring out of it though.

In 1:00:50, the man (who had found Anne in the woods) leaves the house in his car without his son. However, they came together.

1:21:05 when Anne and Harold are leaving the house, in the bedroom they leave with two suitcases and a backpack. Outside the house, they have only one suitcase.

Awful Ghost Story
claudio_carvalho7 March 2017
The photographer Anne (Kelsey Deanne) and her husband Harold Harris (Chase Austin) have just moved to an isolated ranch. Anne has chosen the place to be far from her hateful mother-in-law Martha (Sheril Rodgers) to be distant from her. They welcome their friends Emma (Jessica Willis) and Neil (Jay Bowles) to have dinner together on the first night in the place, and Neil tells a ghost story where a woman stabbed her husband to death in the notorious ranch. During the night, Anna has nightmares and sees the ghost of a woman. Harold, who spends most of the time working in his office to pay the mortgage, believes Anna is disturbed with Neil's story and does not pay much attention to his wife. When Anna is possessed by the ghost and almost stabs him on the bed, he summons Dr. Chambers (Christopher Phipps) that prescribes a tranquilizer to her. He also call his mother to take care of Anna. Is Anna delusional?

"Dead Story" is an awful and predictable ghost story that does not spook. The story and the screenplay are terrible, messy and without explanation or backstory for the ghost's motives. The amateurish performances are laughable. The cinematography is very poor and the edition is ridiculous with abusive use of fade out connecting each take. My vote is two.

Its a dead story all right, it flat-lined 5 minutes into the movie
cjs654724 January 2017
While watching this, I was considering giving it 2 or 3 stars, if only for the slight rights-after-marriage subplot going on. But the ending destroyed all hopes for this nonsensical boring little film. Here's why you shouldn't watch it:

1) It treats the audience like idiots. This means it not only has some very awkward and 'well duh' dialogue, but also abandons any subplots it picks up, resulting in huge disappointments. The ghost wants the husband dead? Abandoned. The husband resents the wife for not having a 9-5? Abandoned. OK how about the wife is a mature independent woman? Abandoned.

2) The scares are stupid. You'll find this out even before the opening credits. One scare consists of a knife disappearing from a sink, and then reappearing again. That's it. The 'ghost' seems to have been adapted from Asian horror, has no backstory, and doesn't fit well in this film.

3) Everything else. Writing, directing, acting, score, cinematography, EVERYTHING is sub-par.

There is NO reason to see this movie, NO interesting twist, NO bizarre monster, NOT even for shits and giggles. Don't encourage such bland productions.

Not worth the time
nyenha14 February 2017
This movie was a total waste of time. I'm an avid horror fan, I've seen all kinds of horror movies. I seen the good, and the bad. But sad to say, this one made it to the top of my list of the worst, horror movie ever. The story was all over the place, and there was literally no actual plot to it. Typical couple moves into a house, the wife starts hearing things, and the husband doesn't believe the wife cliché. There was no scares to this movie at all. And even the music was corny. The acting is absolutely TERRIBLE. I watched the whole movie because I was hoping it would get better, but I should've turned it off as soon as I saw the acting. You don't even get to know much about the characters. Please don't waste your time on this.

I don't usually review - but you need to know how bad this is.
summer_wine716 February 2017
As the title states - I don't normally go out of my way to review movies on here. However, this movie is so incredibly bad, it barely deserves one star, and you need to know it really isn't worth your time. Not even a little bit - not even if you like cheesy or campy horror. This isn't even amusingly bad. It's just bad.

The acting is an absolute atrocity. The actors' emotions are either completely absent or they are so over the top it makes you cringe. I suppose they only have a horrible script to work with - with holes in the plot, unnatural and illogical dialogue (akin to "did you feed the dog" - "yes there are 12 trees" - THAT illogical). The script not only drowns in clichés, it also simply makes no sense half the time - this is only highlighted by the actors who look like constant deer in headlights. I have seen deeper acting in high school plays.

How this got made, and more than 1 star, is well beyond me.

There is only one thing "horror" about this movie, and it's the quality. Don't waste your time. Everyone who made this movie is also better off with you not having seen it. Let's forget this ever happened, for their sake.

Don't Waste Your Time
neil-433556 February 2017
A breathtakingly awful movie without a single redeeming feature, I won't list everything one by one but pick a subject i.e acting, storyline or anything else for that matter - terrible is my answer.

Has to be in my list of the top 10 worst film's I have watched until the end and to top it all, its not scary in the slightest - not even a little bit! no shocks, not much blood and a "ghost" they seem to have picked straight out of The Ring.

I noticed the "unusually" high average score for this film and on careful inspection see 2 reviews giving it a high score, both from India and given the director is from India, I suspect foul play! This really is a terrible movie!!!!

Yawn!
mleefarr21 January 2017
As a horror movie fan, I thought I'd give this movie a try. Oh dear, was I sorry. The acting is terrible. They all seemed a bit forced. The so called horror bits have been done to death in other far better movies. You know whats going to happen well before it does. The background to the story is never explained. It's like it was made by a bunch of inexperienced college students, who decided on a whim to make a movie. I'm getting really bored these days with all the cheap, badly acted movies they are churning out these days. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME DON'T EVEN BOTHER WATCHING THIS MOVIE. I gave this movie 3 stars and that's because I'm in a good mood!

A movie living up to its name
korobkovroman9 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As it was said by others, this is a real "dead story".I am a huge fan of any kind of horror, and I have seen or at least finished, plenty of them. This one is absolutely awful. The acting is poor(like whole new level),the story is weak and it is impossible to finish.I managed to get to the end only because of the facts that the remote was in the other room,I am really lazy and i had a bottle of scotch and my phone with me.If you get to read this before watching it-just don't.If you think that you are such a hardcore horror fan that you would be able to find something worthy in this,be my guest- watch how nothing happens for the whole movie. The movie doesn't deliver any kind of scare moments, fails to build tension or interest in the story or the characters. The movie is filled with scenes the bore you to death.Even the music and sound can't deliver a proper mood.To sum it up, it is a waste of time.

Oh my, that was bad
RandomTard31 January 2021
Okey I think I tried to watch this one before but couldn't bare to finish it, this time I suffered till the end. You can pretty much guess how bad the movie is straight from the start, the ridiculous cardboard knife and the cheap Ring girl impersonator kind of gives it away.

Then we get to enjoy some seriously horrible acting, I really thought these are some amateurs but apparently they are professional - I don't understand how. Especially the male lead is one of the worst actors I have ever seen in my life, he truly is exceptionally bad.

Next big problem is the dialoge. It is just completely rubbish and random, the lines they speak to each other don't often make any sense. There is just so many errors in the movie there's no point in pointing them out, almost every scene has something wrong in it.

And the sounds then. There is no ambient sounds that I could hear in the soundtrack, which makes the whole movie seem empty and cold. Also the sound levels aren't balanced throughout the movie.

So yeah, it is very bad movie.

" dead story is brilliant movie in horror genre of 2017"
durbarg23 January 2017
I loved the movie its excellent movie of horror genre loved the location its beautiful suspense nerve tickling scary. In every scene there is tremendous amount of suspense "Whats going to happen next" ?.Couple Anne and Harold who relocated in a new home with large area of landscape within their campus didn't knew about the presence of a distressed "spirit " who already resides there and keep haunting Annie who was mostly alone in her residence, her relation with her mom-in- law was not at all good who seems to be always demeaning Annie and cursing her for marrying her son but seems was not good in the eyes of the spirit into whose hands she lost her life for torturing Annie. It was very sad for Annie and her husband. The movie overall is true horror movie some scenes are really scary especially the scratching of the wardrope's room's floor and the light coming out from the room,One scene where all the furniture were shown scattered and suddenly were well placed when Annie try to take pics of that place.Good Cinematography, beautiful location, two lovely couple and a creepy ghost makes the movie a must watch.

Raising the score
henriqueac-6278324 September 2022
I'll give this movie a surprisingly seven out of ten because I did like those monologues types of scenes. Perhaps the action takes a lot of time to happen, perhaps the plot is nothing fancy, perhaps the ghost of the story is a kind of copy from Sadako Yamamura, but I would have enjoyed this movie in my late teens. I am no expert, but from my experience as a viewer, I can tell when the thrilling silent atmosphere delivers, and in this case, it does. Now, maybe you saw that ending comming, I know... I know... Maybe the ladie's husband remembers Seymour Skinner from The Simpson with his mom... I know... But come on, I liked it! Hahaha.

It is somewhat scary if that's what you're after
slickr1234512 September 2019
It's a predictable horror story no doubt about it and the whole ghost story isn't really fleshed out, but it is quite a bit scary, in fact I'd say more so than any of the recent bigger horror movies.

It can get a bit boring at times as certain scenes are dragged out and there is literally nothing happening, but the ghost is creepy as hell, the music is eerie and creepy, the whole color of the movie is bleak and just creepy, it really adds to a gloom and doom atmosphere.

Again if you are coming to a horror film to be fully entertained, this is not for you, if you are coming for a great fleshed out story, this ain't it, if you are coming for a scary experience it offers good amount of it. Nothing special, but more scares than most of the recent big horror movies.

I've watched a lot of horror movies, in terms of fun and entertainment this is probably a 3 out of 10, but in terms of scares and creepiness it a good 7 out of 10. Watch it alone in a dark room if you want some good scares.

Too bad!!
gegov7 May 2017
I've seen bad films and then this. I tried very hard to give it a chance but everything was so bad. The story is weak, the acting is bad, the ending is terrible. Honestly there's nothing good I can say about this movie. Don't waste your time. Horror is one of my favorite genres but this one you should skip it. This is so bad that it really inspired me to write my first review.

Storyline too bad
billyhalim-6387210 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has 80 minutes long duration but the storyline is not clear? Why is there a ghost in the house and what's something behind 2 A.M? I know the title is Dead Story and it would be good if there is a background behind the story. I have wasting time, watching the woman taking photos in the woods while her husband go out to work.

Dougs son
the_war_on_lego22 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As many unanswered questions this film left me with, the biggest to me was, why did Douglas the 'redneck' leave his almost same age, Asian son in the house and just leave? What happened to his 'son'? Was he still there at the end of the movie? Perhaps they were actually in on it because Douglas ando was acting super shady or just acting unbelievably bad!

tilleycheryl20 April 2018
One of the worst horror movies I ever seen . Acting awful storyline awful . Just a waste of money and time making this crap . I'm searching for a decent horror and sadly most are as bad as this these days. Don't bother !!! Also the Indian guy who I think is the director has a small part in movie . He goes in the house and he forgot to write the part where he leaves . Amateur mistake .

Next level bad!
iiss-026224 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Here is the plot of the movie: under the help of modern medical technology, Bradley Cooper and Nickolas Cage have a son together, he plays "Herald" in this movie. The main female leading actor with sausage-sized lips play "Ann" here, Herald's wife. The couple move into a house on a range. The house is haunted by some female reptilian looking ghost who has a really bad haircut. The ghost somehow possesses Ann and makes her kill her mother-in-law. Herald feels depressed and takes a walk in the woods and out of nowhere a knife flies over and kills him. The end.

Does the story sound appealing to you? I don't think so either. You're welcome that I saved you 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The only horror, is in watching it. Cringe rating 10+
Reasting19 January 2021
Lordy lord lord... where to start.

Actors who can't act, ridiculous inconsistent dialogue, no story development, terrible special effects and music, sloppy editing and photography.

A grown woman in her prime... seemingly incapable of fighting off an aging out of shape woman.

Truly, the only good and most impressive part were the end credits. This would have been a film even in the eighties.

Clice Ghost Story but still worth Watching
seckinlergafri8 August 2018
Dead Story is a horror film of 2017. The story of a couple: Harold and Ann who lives in a remote house that has a terrible past, Because there used to be a sadistic murder in 1968. Evil spirits began to disrupt Ann and Harold's lives, can they fix it ??? A cliché of horror films but still worth watching.

What about the furniture moving?
nogodnomasters9 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A couple moves into a supposedly haunted house. Anne (Kelsey Deanne) seems to have mental issues not well developed. Her mother-in-law (Sheril Rodgers) loathes her in a rather over-the-top fashion. Her husband (Chase Austin) is supportive, but work keeps him away.

The film wasn't overly bad, but the dialogue wasn't well scripted, the actors were bland, except I had to scratch my head over the MIL's behavior. The house was allegedly was pre- WWI Victorian but looked new, a forgivable offense for low budget films. The film copies the pop craze of having ghosts with long black unwashed hair covering the face. Unless your ghost is Japanese, please stop. The budget and script couldn't afford a psychic investigator, albeit cliché, but would have worked better than take these sedatives and call me in the morning type doctor. I miss you Zelda.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
