Claymation At Its Most Zany
alisonc-121 July 2018
It's 1986, and Chuck Steel is the LAPD's best, baddest and most maverick cop. He may be unorthodox, but boy does he get the job done! When the Governor starts advocating a clean-up in California liquor laws, important and not-important people start to disappear, leaving nothing but a pool of blood. Everyone is baffled by this, until Chuck comes across Abraham Van Rental, who whispers the tale of the trampires: vampires who have fallen on hard times on Skid Row and can only survive on the blood of inebriated victims. And the pair soon learn that the Master of the trampires is about to arrive, intending to usher in the death of humanity.... Claymation is a very specific form of filmmaking that audiences either love or don't; one thing it does is to let the film-makers be as inventively gory (or sexy, or absurd) as they can imagine, which is to say that this short (88 minute) film is steeped in gore, heads exploding, massive blow-ups and the like. And it's really hilarious while it does those things! A note to parents with small kids, there's a ton of swearing and, well, gore in this film; it's definitely intended for mature audiences, preferably with a warped sense of humour!

Knocks Wallace and Grommit into a cocked hat.....
frosteliza18 May 2022
If you're reading the other enthusiastic, high-mark reviews on IMDB and thinking FAKE FAKE - you'd be wrong!

Whilst some of the non-PC humour is a bit hit and miss, the SXF and outstanding animation more than make up for it. It's so fluid, it's actually hard to believe it's all claymation. There are several laugh-out-loud moments, mostly involving the background characters and one or two things you won't see coming.

Lots of homage moments to Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, lots of gunfights, and some nice one liners.

Worth a watch if you're not easily offended.

Something new in the area of claymation
chrislawuk20 November 2022
Nice to see this was made in Wales, being Scottish myself. Like his first Chuck Steel movie, it looks great, this one even better. Incredible given the small budgets. Must have bust balls to produce the movies on such a low budgets. The humour is off beat; given it is a homage to 80s genre movies, that not surprising. Did like the fact Mike Mort branched in to horror more with this sequel. His character Chuck Steel was more developed and funnier in this movie than the original. Director has a history with the Wallace and Gromit team, and this is evident in the model sculptures-but he takes the animation much further technically. There are elements of Sam Rami, Peter Jackson, among a few. Adult animation is clearly struggling looking at the low number of reviews thus far. I can't imagine why, as it is hugely entertaining. Us British have a habit of making American style movies better than the Americans. Ridley and Tony Scott are an example of that. Even Grand Theft Auto the video game is partially created in Edinburgh for some reason. They did a grand fine job of it regardless. Hope again that it finds the audience it deserves & it get a decent distributor.

Face or Balls?
daisukereds1 July 2022
While I found the story to be a bit slow, bland, predictable and dumb at times (not to forget the poor humor).. I couldn't help but admire the impressive production quality in it!! Which was enough for it to warrant a watch.

Be it the exquisite clay animation (with movements and details that surprised), model designs, great sound mixing and music choices, sets, lighting, choreography, visual effects, or even the camera work. You name it! I applaud the work of anyone involved.. except whoever was in charge of the script. That is not to say that it doesn't have its moments of brilliance, and a few scenes here and there.. but the layer of "comedy" just drags it down. I'm fine with it being dumb, but not boring.

At least I wasn't disappointed with Chuck Steel himself, whom I expected to be your average dumb, loud-mouthed and annoying lead. But he was actually pleasantly written as a decent character. A man of action, with enough brains to be likeable and useful.

Sadly, a better story and this would be worth recommending. Wouldn't mind seeing more in a different setting, with a better structure and less stupidity.

Mind-blowing animation that's blood-soaked and oozing fun throughout.

Chuck Steel, a no-nonsense maverick renegade cop, is pitted against a horde of vampire-like beings who feast upon the blood of those who are drunk.

Writer and director Mike Mort offers vibes reminiscent of Last Action Hero and Kung Fury in this stop-motion animated action comedy horror film. In addition to the aforementioned, the film parodies and pays homage to a slew of live-action films of the 1980s. The frame rate is so good that there are moments that'll trick you into thinking they could be people in masks. It's a work of art (geared for adults) with a technique that equals, if not surpasses, similar contemporaries. Although some of the voice work is a little bumpy, the majority is on point including the likes of comedians Jennifer Saunders and Paul Whitehouse.

It's on an epic scale with hundreds of characters and creatures, and dozens of scale-model sets. The craftsmanship of the production is clearly there for all to see. There are laughs to be had amidst the gore, explosions, and hails of bullets. It's wild, outlandish, and over-the-top, with mind-blowing animation that's blood-soaked and oozing fun throughout.

Fantastic work, as well as an enjoyable film. Highly recommend.

Pure Chaos
calahao9 November 2023
This is a stop motion animated film, and a damn fluid one at that. The animation is beyond spectacular and never feels clunky. It also plays close attention to detail, like the constant flowing candlewax in the Wise One's face, and considering each trampire dies by a very gory explosion you can really feel the level of effort it went into making this.

Plotwise this is a pastiche of 80's action flicks, never taking itself too seriously and constantly poking fun at the tropes of the genre. Where I think the humor falls a bit is the anti-therapy message; take it as you will.

The monster designs are fantastic. You'd expect this film to just be populated by bum vampires, but there are quite a few surprises with stellar designs.

Overall a flawed product, but clearly a labour of love.

Claymation goes wild
kosmasp27 December 2018
Well what other way could it go, right? If the word "bonkers" can be applied to any movie at all, it is this one right here. It might be tough to follow the story, if as some might argue there is one to follow, because you are going to be constanctly distracted. This does not play in the realm of the real world ... I know "duh!", but it has to be said.

So there are a lot of things happening, including sexual acts, violent acts and just overall crazy things. If you cherish political correctness, need clear structure and/or are easily offended anyway - well do not watch this movie! Unless you hate yourself or feel you have to punish yourself I guess. Seriously though: this is really way out there, especially when it comes to its humor ... you've been warned, now enjoy

An entertaining claymation film Warning: Spoilers
A very entertaining stop-motion film, both a parody and a tribute of many cult classic films from the 80s, filled with lots of bizarre, politically incorrect humor which would be rarely included in the large majority of modern mainstream Hollywood flicks.

Oh, who I'm kidding: Most of the jokes from this movie would be not included at all in the extremely sanitized blockbusters from this current era. In that sense, this felt like a breath of fresh air.

It might be crass, it might be very immature, but it is also a genuine work of love. And it made me laugh a lot.

The original short, Raging Balls of Steel Justice, it's quite fun too.

Definitely not for everyone! This is one madcap film!
paulclaassen9 August 2022
I guarantee you've never seen an animated movie quite like 'Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires', and probably never will - and I'm still deciding whether that's a good thing, or bad. Trampires is a cross between tramps and vampires. Just to be clear, it is tramps as in homeless people, and not hookers.

This animated movie is definitely not for kids. This is crude and rude with unsympathetic humour like you've never heard before - enough to make your ears twitch!! This is a parody in every sense of the word, and is an absolute madcap film!

The film revolves around our hero (or should that be more of an anti-hero?), Chuck Steel - a cop- trying to rid the world of vampires who feed on drunk homeless people - or bums. He is assisted by the weirdest bunch of heroes, including a horny old man.

Some scenes really are sick and vulgur, but one can't help but have a good time with this movie. Keep in mind, this definitely is not everyone's cup of tea, so think twice before showcasing this at a movie night with friends.

Would I watch it again? Uhm, I don't think so...

Spectacular fun for everyone...
paul_haakonsen17 May 2022
I had never heard about the 2018 animated comedy "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires" before now in 2022 as I happened to stumble upon it by sheer luck. I immediately took a liking to the movie's cover and the title, and figured that this was something that I just had to watch.

Writer and director Mike Mort delivered something truly unique and memorable here with "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires", and it is without a doubt something you have to sit down and watch, should you find yourself with the opportunity to do so.

The storyline told in "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires" was just brilliant. It was a great comedy story spruced up with action and vampires, well not vampires, but trampires technically. And it was just so well-written that it was great fun. Lots of interesting and funny things and characters throughout the entire 90 minutes that it ran for.

I liked the animation used in "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires". It worked so marvelously in favor of the movie. And the attention to detail was just spectacular. And the animators really managed to bring the characters and their surroundings to life in a wholesome manner.

Now, I can't claim to be familiar with any of the voices of the voice cast ensemble, but people were definitely bringing their characters to life in a great way. And with "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires" being an animated movie, of course having a properly talented voice acting cast is everything.

I was genuinely entertained by "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires" and can warmly recommend you watch this.

My rating of "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires" lands on an eight out of ten stars.

If Your Emitional Age is Under 12, It's Great
brelanda21 August 2022
This is another film that thinks if you keep hitting the viewer over and over with the same S#!^ it will make you think it's funny.

It is not!

I could only stand the first 35min. Before I had to stop watching. I don't know how it ends and I don't care, and neither did the people who made this picture. It is nothing more than a string of bad ideas one after another.

If you are not a 12 year old boy watching with a bunch of you friends, laughing at the cursing, the lame sexual jokes and over the top violence. Give the flick a hard pass.

An exceptional, original, fresh film with an definining 80's style of horror
sinnerofcinema14 October 2018
This film had it US premiere at the worlds top horror film festival Screamfest in Hollywood. I must say I did not know what to expect going into this film. It did look intriguing, but boy was I not prepared for the sure awesomeness of this film. It was an insane non-stop ride to horrorland claymation style. It was raw and very adept to today's current political climate even tho this film was conceived back in 2014 as it took many years to create the worlds and animate the characters depicted in the story. I don't want to give away much of what you will experience. However, rest assured it will blow your mind and open all of your senses to this cinematic experience. This is the work of a creative genius. There is just no other way to describe the experience of watching this film and at no time did it let up. Kudos to the terrific talent involved with this film. You took me back to the 80's with the style and music of the film and brought me right back to current issue perfectly performed by dolls. This is one film you will not soon forget. I could not wait to get home to write the review of this film and share with the world the awe inspiring film that blew everyone who saw this away tonight. I look forward to seeing this film again in a theatre where I hope it will be released widely because it certainly has mass appeal and it most definitely deserves to been consumed for all of its brilliance. This is nothing short of a cinematic achievement, with Best Oscar for animation among other accolades written all over it. I'm also very excited to be the second review here on the imdb page. If you hear about this movie playing in your neck of the woods, do yourself a favor and do not hesitate to seek it out.

Truly incredible 80's style classic action stop motion film.
jonathangarvey15 November 2018
Just recently watch this film and it is nothing short of a masterpiece, the story of the development of this film when mike originally write the script in 2001 and the character conceived in school is very much a an epic underdog tale in its self. Anyway, moving on to the film its self it has got a short film based in 1986, Chuck Steel: Raging Balls of Steel Justice which I also highly recommend watching as it is available to watch online for free and is 14 minutes long which gives you a insight into the world of Chuck. The feature film it self is truly stunning, I came out of the theatre speechless. The visuals of the film are beautiful with the right style and cinematography to give you the style of of a classic 80's action film. The story of the film was lovely were you get the development through the film and the film is really hilarious with brilliant comedy that really had me laughing constantly thought the film. The film is definitely intended for an adult and is one definitely to add to your list of films to watch (High up that list I may add).

CHUCK STEEL: NIGHT OF THE TRAMPIRES (2022)

I absolutely adored this fantastically Animated comedic take on Action and Horror films from the 80s📼 If you grew up in the 80s on a diet of Hollywood Action films and Cult Horror from the Vhs era you will love this Animated Action comedy Horror📼 From the Writer and Director of GOG'S (1995-2000) Mike Mort comes CHUCK STEEL: NIGHT OF THE TRAMPIRES and I've gotta say he's crafted a fantastically twisted unPC homage to the films I hired from the many Video Shops here in Carlisle The film is crammed with movie references and Homages there are to many to mention but all the more fun for you the watcher to spot them all,I loved every minute of it.

This is a must watch film for any cult movie fan 📼

I really can't praise it enough go hire it for £4.99 or buy it for £9.99 on Amazon until the Blu Ray gets released and buy a physical copy I loved this and will be watching it again multiple times. Wildly bonkers and creative claymation....
stevenjlowe827 April 2024
I have to admit to thoroughly enjoying this claymation gem. Yes some of the humour didn't quite land for me but a good 80% did and the immature little boy in me did giggle at some of the toilet humour as it all fit and generally worked in this messed up 80's throwback. I loved the clichéd action tropes and dialogue and I just loved how balls to the wall messy gross and insane this film was. It really committed and delivers a truly unique film experience in my opinion.

Obviously the best thing about this film was the claymation style they went with and wow did they do a magnificent job. The rich gory details and designs of the Trampires and other various monstrous creatures were just a marvel to behold. As was the whole film but major props have to go to the aforementioned creatures. Horror and Sci Fi really do lend themselves well to this style of film making and I hope to see more animation films in this style.
