One heck of an episode. Warning: Spoilers
***spoiler free section***

Woah. I have to admit, I did not see that coming. To be clear, I've been complaining about this season not because it is different from the previous seasons, but because it feels uneventful -- that is, until now. Let's start with the small stuff.

Cosima is developing her relationship with her new girlfriend, but you can still really strongly feel the absence of Delphine. This episode showed how cold Delphine has become, but also gave her a single moment to show that she still misses Cosima.

Felix interrogates Rachel, making a discovery. The Hendrix family sets up a money laundering scheme. Helena debates. Paul leads a revolution within Castor.

***SPOILER SECTION***

This leads to his demise. I have been complaining about how little he's been in it for a while now. This was the first episode to feature him as a centerpiece since the first season. Unfortunately, in a cruel twist of fate, it was also his last episode. His death was very well handled by the directors, showing emotional flashbacks to earlier in the series.

"Agony" indeed, this is a gut-wrenching instalment
DVD_Connoisseur16 January 2019
The episode title isn't an understatement. This is a pivotal episode in the third season and the dark tone grows even more sombre.

"Certain Agony" almost plays out like a season finale. There's a lot of action driving the plot forward and certain doors close at the same time.

10 out of 10.

heart sinker episode!
Canada77728 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
ahh! Super heart sinker! I was so shocked and disappointed when you killed off the Paul character!!! The chemistry and emotional connection between Sarah and Paul was always great and now in season 3 episode 6 when Paul hinted that he cared for Beth but later admitted that it was not her he loved as he gazed lovingly and happily at Sarah when he set her free..as he walked off to die while stopping the immoral research and stop the doctor and as many Castor as he could...what a heart wrenched climax!! It was nice to see him finally fully show Sara how he felt and how is real agenda was more honorable than she previously thought in his tough position as a double agent. What a way to go out with a bang as a hero Saving Sara whom he loves and preclude the Castor and twisted government black op agenda in one fell swoop. I hope Dylan Bruce Gets lots of parts from his portrayal of Paul Dierden- super Hot! Plus it was cool to see the Helena character come back for Sara in the tunnel though not totally surprising.....super gross about her eating the scorpion even though it was her hallucination(PS. to the tech and props department- in emergency survival tactics shouldn't one pull of the tail of the scorpion to avoid the venom? Thought I saw that in a Bear Grylls show once(Just sayin).

From time to time, I drop a 10...

I like to think that I select my TV carefully, our time here is finite, after all.

A close friend recommended this to me when it first came out and I enjoyed the first season very much, but only got around to rewatching and continuing last week.

Having binge watched multiple episodes every night, I just assumed this stonker of an ep was the season finale. Surely TV does not come much better than this.

Every, single, character, in the show plays a crucial part in this episode, strings are drawn tauter than those of a beancounter's purse as we finally realise the scope and implications of LEDA andCASTOR.

Paul's scenes in this episode are as riveting and poised as they are finely crafted and we see he true mettle after two and a half seasons of guessing where he stands and how he feels about the clones.

Beyond the story itself, which is top notch, I just want to give a shout out to the screenplay.

This was inspired; pretty much timed to perfection. No moment was wasted, every scene had a place and a purpose, filled with foreboding and suggestion. Especially the scenes with Sarah under duress. Really, touchingly beautiful... Enough so that I watched the last ten minutes three times in a row.

If Season 3 ended here, it would have been a finale right up there with Lucifer's epic "A Devil of my Word," arguably one of the best sci-fi/fantasy season finishes of all time.

[9.5] A finale that wasn't the finale
cjonesas29 July 2021
A superb episode with amazing acting by Tatiana Maslany, first and foremost (As done so many times - though she outshone herself here) and the bright supporting cast. An episode filled with action, thrill and lots of emotions; awesome writing flowing like a beautiful river, makes it a stand out episode with a huge feel of a finale.

Rachel's tear rolling on her cheek broke my heart. Kudos Tania!

Still my favorite TV episode

I still think about this episode years after first watching it. Tatiana Maslany was spectacular in getting me to feel bad for Sarah. It was intense, emotional, and heartwarming. Just incredible television.

He did make it right...

Warning: Spoilers
This is the second-best episode of my favorite TV show after "The Scandal of Altruism" (4x06). The main action happens at the military base, but we must still mention the iconic Hendrix dance and the fact that Delphine does everything to help Cosima and her sisters when the latter does not seem to notice. The exchange between Felix and Rachel always gives me goosebumps since it's so rare that we see Felix angry and Rachel helpless. Also interesting is that Rachel seems to know the code, as if Ethan was forcing her to work with his sisters even after his death. Finally, the death of Paul surprises, saddens and above all makes us realize that he was a character we loved even if sometimes we forget that. Sarah's hallucinations, which could have been corny but aren't, along with Yuile's soundtrack and crescendo of action make for the perfect ending. Seeing Beth again reminds us that even if their lives are completely different, all the clones are sisters whose destinies are intertwined. The « It was never Beth I loved » is a heartbreaking declaration of love that shows Paul was one of the good guys just not a monitor attributed to the right clone.

Acme grenades
kingsx_648 February 2020
Episode had potential. But was all for nothing after seeing the Acme Road Runner grenade that takes 20mins to go off. 2nd grade writing kills yet another episode.
