The show's best character gets her turn in the hot seat
Mr-Fusion31 March 2017
Pretty sure this episode is why Sarah Paulson won an Emmy. And I can see why. She wrings plenty of sympathy out of Marcia Clark as a professional who wasn't ready to be set upon by the paparazzi. The woman simply cannot win, not as a working mother, a shark in the courtroom, or as a dartboard for the media. This is a man's world, and even the most playful of jabs are just catty. It's a fascinating character study.

It's also exceedingly dramatic - primarily in the camera-work - where everything's over-the-top zooms and whip-pans (Ryan Murphy loves this). Nuance is nowhere to be found, but that's partially why it's so entertaining. The deck is formidably stacked against Clark, but when she gets her licks in, those little moments are tremendously satisfying. You just wish she could have more of them.

Horrible Treatment
Hitchcoc19 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode shows how successful women were treated just a few years ago. Marcia Clark was a top attorney, taking on one of the biggest cases of the century. She plotted strategy, kept the pressure on the defense, and was prepared each day. So what's in the news. They don't like her hair. They have people phone in to say if she is a babe or a bitch. Her ex husband brings action to get custody of her children. One paper finds a nude photo that her first husband took and publishes it. Johnny Cochran makes a snide comment about her in the courtroom because her children came first when Ito asked them to convene in the evening. Darden really helps get her through. We can see some things going on between them (not sexual; just a closeness and friendship). This shows the kind of ugliness in our country that is still here in 2017. Marcia Clark, though she lost the case, is my new hero.

Distractions

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode, we really get to see the personal life of Marcia and the impact this trial is having on it. It's quite a touching episode. I'd like to see more episodes like this, showing us the side of the trial that wasn't visible to the public, the relationships between these characters. These human interactions and struggles are what make the show great, not necessarily the trial itself. Sarah Paulson continues to be outstanding as the pace of this plot really picks up.

The Impact of the Spotlight

The People vs O.J. Simpson: Marcia, Marcia, Marcia (2016)

This sixth episode in the series, as the title states, focuses in on Marcia Clark (Sarah Paulson) and the impact that the trial is starting to have on her. Not only is she having to prosecute the Crime of the Century but she's also dealing with her ex-husband trying to get custody of their children as well as being on every magazine cover and television with people making fun of her looks.

The sixth episode in the FX series once again is an excellent one but this one here gets its drama in another way than previous episodes. Previously the show worked its magic by highlight big moments from the trial as well as giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the battles going on but this one here gets drama from seeing the pain and destruction that the trial was having on Clark. The episode works wonders due to Paulson's excellent and believable performance as well as the script that manages to pack in the embarrassment and damage that personal things reaching the media had on someone who wasn't used to dealing with the media.

Media is a Foetid Playground!..

Warning: Spoilers
This episode focuses not only on Marcia, but on the horrors and the misguidance caused by the media on a daily basis.

Their degrading Marcia by labeling her acts while digging up her arguably "cloudy" past (or should I say "personal defaults / choices") is no merit as it is business that entertain its followers more than it does try changing them for the better.

So, if I go to the press and confess to something terrible, they'd not wait for a second to think if that information can hurt the society in anyway possible and they should pass it on to the police. This is well- projected on the example of Marcia in this episode. Very good.

Media is a power. And it can make someone seem guilty when not, vice versa. And this is also reflected very well.

"This is exactly why I don't like to get famous!!1!" can I hear people saying...

"We don't want work ethics, we want a 'tender-hearted' media with a sense of justice all across the world!.." is what I derive from this episode.

The density of drama escalates to the point that we feel Marcia'a pain as Ms. Paulson shows her skills to the fullest extent.

The thing I most enjoyed in the episode is the "modus operandi" shown to us in the court. So realistic. Very. Good.

"O ye who believe! If an ungodly man comes to you with a tiding, verify it, lest ye smite some folk unwittingly and afterward repent of what ye have done." says the Gracious Koran in the 6th Verse of the 49th Chapter (The Dwellings) on the matter. Amen.

lol isnt that what usually happen when we have a male lawyer? For the wife to ask for custody with the excuse that the guy is not around. I think it was the first time seeing portrayed a man doing the same to a woman lol..

wait.. the new marsha? Thought her hair was supposed to be straight? It remained the same.

Had to rewind it.. she curly more wavy longer hair and after the cut, it got real short and very curly.. dont think it was that bad tho.

Oh yeah, the tampons joke.. wow and had it been a man and imagine dude were buying some beers.. cashier would say he did need beer to get though that awful trial.. but it is a woman, so oh my god sexism.

The leaked nude was a low blow tho

great episode overall. Sterling was awesome.
