Watching the werewolf made me snarl, that's how bad it looked.
deloudelouvain17 December 2019
Well, what to say after watching The Snarling? First of all there are the usual fake reviews, but that we learned to live with on IMDb. This is no way close to a gem or masterpiece like some reviewers try to make you believe. It's a low budget (very low) werewolf movie from the UK. It's not supposed to be just horror, but more of a comedy, and there is nothing wrong with that except that in this case the humor is most of the time nowhere to be seen. There are a couple funny moments (a very little bit funny) but most of the time you wonder who wrote that kind of lame script. The cast is divided in two, on one hand you have a couple of actors who did it once before without too much success and than you have the other actors (if you can call them that) that they got out of the local pub, with zero experience and it shows. The werewolf creature, you have to wait a long time to see it, and there is a reason why, they just got a mask from the local Halloween store, put it on somebody and asked him to strut around a little bit. It's really really bad. They could at least spend a little bit of money on that, I don't know maybe by trying to raise some money at a car booth or so. Don't waste your time on this one, there are dozens of better werewolf movies.

Boring
mpndkp19 October 2020
Come on... British humor is suppose to be funny and clever, but sometimes there are duds! Im an American and there are bad America movies as well, and this was no shaun of the dead or even that movie they go visit all the pups in a night, but this humor was childish and straight corney! It was like really, you think we all are 9 years old and were just going to laugh, and add a little scary to this movie if you want to call it a horror comedy! The poster looks so scary, thats why I wanted to watch it! Even the brits know im right!

Yet another Brit zombie/horrow/comedy flick. There seems to be quite a lot of them these days. This one is neither better nor worse than the others.

I coudl take it or leave it.

This Film Left Me Snarling for my Life!
grahammwiles19 April 2019
Horrible, daft, boring, low budget, pathetic, sad, fake, poor, painful, suicidal, eye-sore, ear-sore, snore-fest, lame, worthless, time waster, brain dead, stick a pencil in your eye, yawn, cough, splutter, boo, kak, dreadful, slit your wrists, chop of your head, very bad acting, dumbest story etc...

...I can go on and on about how terrifying awful and useless this film is. The peeps that gave great reviews were probably brainwashed by the producers of the film - a complete waste of your time - don't even bother!!! NO!!! NOT EVEN JUST IN CASE!!! Avoid like a highly infectious disease!

Worst film I've ever seen
connorpbs6 October 2020
Watched this movie because of it being the "modern Shaun of the dead" and wow was I wrong. It being a low budget movie is no excuse for how diabolical this movie is. It's not funny, not engaging, it's not clever it's not even self aware. Id rather be pushed off a cliff and break every bone in my body than ever watch another minute of this detritus. I actually felt my intelligence was insulted by this film. You'd get more entertainment out of a snuff movie than this rubbish. I rated it a 1/10 because you can't rate any lower but if I could it would be a 0. There's only one good thing about it, which is, if you were ever to torture someone, you have the perfect torture material. I wrote this review so you can save yourself the displeasure of watching this trash.

The Snoring
yargyenrac29 June 2020
Genuinely awful from start to finish. Badly written, with the most stale jokes possible, badly directed, with interminable scenes that go nowhere, badly acted, with more scenery chewing than a bad amateur dramatics society production. That is, if there were any scenery. The only upside was that it was relatively short. You would have to be brain dead to like this film.

The farting

I read a bunch of fake reviews on this movie so I tried it. A fart song would have been more enjoyable. 2 stars just to be nice.

Make my pint a Howler
cherise-fugue29 January 2019
Its daft humour, which did have me laughing along. Quite a few nods to AWIL, had me looking in the background for those nuggets. The torn jackets hanging on the pub door etc.

I'll happily have a pint of Howling Wolf. Cheers to werewolf films, may there be many more.

Look at all the dumb way over ratings! Sure it's a low budget film and you can't expect much but don't lie to people saying it's better than sex it's not it's about like an std you might catch from your local hooker

The Snarling: I'm as shocked as you are
Platypuschow17 April 2019
Okay so look at that cover, look at that title! I went in with zero expectations, I believed I was likely in for another low budget werewolf mess and when I realized it was British my hopes flatlined.

It's been a longtime since I've been this wrong, this is one of the biggest surprises I've come across in years.

A British independent horror comedy with a werewolf theme that tells that story of a small village as a movie production crew begins filming a zombie movie locally. When the bodies start to pile up it falls on the incompetent police force and local bar buddies to save the day.

It looks as cheap as you'd expect and sadly when anything even remotely werewolf happens the lack of budget shows and hurts the film.

But that's literally all I have to say in criticism of The Snarling. Well cast with a host of vaguely familiar faces from various UK soaps and sitcoms and with some of the best writing I've come across in years! I chuckled, I laughed and I split my sides......this is a genuinely hilarious movie.

Absolutely beats the pants off of most werewolf films and for that matter films in general lately. Really oddly enjoyable.

The Good:

Some good laughs

Great transitions

Oddly good writing

The Bad:

Lack of budget hurt the film

Good for a titter.
parry_na9 January 2021
An English village endures the filming of a Zombie film on its doorstep. As if that were not enough, locals are found dead, their bodies torn apart.

This is a low budget horror comedy, and glories in it. Silly, funny, with some good performances and some reasonable jokes - some work better than others, which is fair enough - and it actually makes sense.

Director and writer Pablo Raybould isn't interested in anything too sophisticated, preferring rather to dish out a few giggles during the 83 minute run-time. My score is 6 out of 10.

You Snarl at the Time Loss
chelseajmbelehar21 January 2023
I love werewolf films but oh my goodness this was not a good film. I get where they were going with the plot but anyone can see that in the first minute. I kid you not! In the first minute you know how this film is going to go.

I will admit they tried to get good camera angels with good lighting but that's all the praise I can honestly give this film. The monster scenes or lack there of is not like what you see in Jaws. That build to finally seeing the monster is just not there at all. You're just bored watching a low budget remake using the same werewolf horror movie tropes. Then when the monster scene is there, it's shot in a choppy quick fire to cover up its low budget werewolf costume you could buy at a Walmart!

THE BIGGEST INSULT WAS THE OBVIOUS An American Werewolf In London scene with the two hikers in identical jackets. It did not seem like an honorary throw back to the classic film but a cheat to make you like this movie. And this is from a classic werewolf horror movie fan!

Overall 1/10 this was not a good film.

Good fun!
derekshannon25 January 2019
It's about what you'd expect. It's a good laugh, it's well acted and the plot is really good. It's not as funny as I hoped maybe but I did laugh out loud a few times and I really enjoyed the film. Well worth the watch for sure. In the vein of Shaun Of The Dead!

Great fun
MartinWPayne13 January 2019
A really good independent UK horror film, filled with some good laugh moments as well as the humour that is quintessentially British. The work on the production value of this film is clear, despite the low budget that would have been associated with it - and certainly worth a watch.

Not much to snarl at
TheLittleSongbird29 October 2019
Despite how this sounds, in case anybody is confused, it means that although there are problems with 'The Snarling' there is more than enough good in my view to stop it from being a film to completely dismiss. Was in two minds as to whether to see it and was not expecting a lot, apprreciate comedy and horror and do like films that combine both (that aspect has varied in success though), the premise seemed nice enough. Seeing too many potential wastes and that it did not look good made me nervous though.

While it is not a great film and did have a lot of room for improvement, 'The Snarling' turned out better than expected. Much better than its generic and cheesy title suggests, another thing that put me off when watching considering that there are many instances of films where the title is quite appetising. 'The Snarling' may not look good visually and budget does badly hinder it, but to me it managed to be fun and seemed to know what it wanted to be, what it was trying to do and what to aim it at, that was good considering that there are numerous films that struggle in this aspect.

As said, the low budget does show in 'The Snarling' and it really does look cheap. The editing lacked slickness, it looked drab and the special effects and some of the werewolf action look as though it was made in a rush at last minute on the small remainder of budget that was left. The pacing can be an issue too, it can drag in places with scenes that are longer and slighter than they should have been.

Personally would have liked more of the horror elements, which does play second fiddle to the comedy. Both are not done badly at all, with the comedy faring better, but it would have been even better with a more equal balance between the two (though that is difficult to do having said that).

'The Snarling's' comedic and horror elements however fare well individually. There may not be anything terrifying here, but there is a creepiness to the atmosphere and it was evident to me that it was made by people that loved the genre and understood it. The comedy is what makes the film work, there was a lot that made me laugh out loud and the neat and knowing references to the likes of 'An American Werewolf in London' came over as clever and affectionate. The dialogue didn't seem stilted and seemed like the writers were enjoying themselves, especially in those corking one-liners sprinkled throughout.

Despite the cheap look, the threat are still quite menacing and their scenes unsettling, the film not over or under using them. The audio doesn't spell things out too much and doesn't overbear. Some problematic pacing aside, the story has enough fun, atmosphere and content to still compel. The direction more than shows competence and the acting is above average, with Laurence Saunders effective in two roles.

Overall, not without drawbacks but decent. 6/10

They're like catnip to those dogs
nogodnomasters27 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a simple werewolf comedy horror. The camera work and special effects are all low budget. The main plot of the production is a zombie film is being made. A local man looks like the star of the film (Laurence Saunders). He is asked to sub.

What made the film fun was the idiotic "Who's on first?" type of dialogue.

"Which is?"

"Not witches. Werewolves."

In addition to our star being an idiot, we have a bumbling police department with an ongoing joke about their lab. I had a few laughs.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Genuinely funny, great cast, good script. ....bad FX.
Jester22210 June 2019
I wish this film had just a little more money for the Werewolf effects ......it suffers a lot when seen. But that's the only real criticism...... it's not about Oscar winning FX it's about fun.

Cheap British horror comedy with a great script and cast (familiar faces from UK soaps). The banter between the three extras from the pub (The Severed Arms) was really funny and I found myself laughing out loud. A pleasant surprise.

Little Gem..
jcallender12127 January 2019
I loved this, it's a very, very British comedy/horror, leaning way more in the comedy direction. There's not an ounce of fat anywhere in the 80 mins, the story is tighter than The Hulks speedos, every line, scene and expression has purpose and adds to the whole. The stand out for me was the hapless D.I, played by Pablo Raybould, who also wrote and directed, a fact that usually doesn't mean much to me but on this occasion I thought deserved a mention. The icing on the already sugar laden cake is the Werewolf in London references, very blatant and in no way looking for comparisons, more a doff of the cap I think. Don't let the cover fool you, this isn't a horror film, it's a fangtastically (sorry), funny movie with a werewolf in it.

Good fun!
raeaduncan21 July 2019
I see where the negative reviews are coming from - but this movie had me laughing all the way, yes there were one or two scenes that should have been redone, and a couple of jokes that fell flat, but for a comedy horror, it was excellent. Very funny! The two policemen should have a show to themselves!

Great low-budget comedy
jessmoutray18 August 2020
I thoroughly enjoyed this film for what it was: a low budget horror/comedy. They leaned into the silliness of it while still taking it very seriously. If you're looking for great SFX you may want to look elsewhere, but the dry humor, good performances, and self-aware script made this film funny and a pleasure to watch during my morning coffee. Well done!

Nifty British horror comedy
Woodyanders19 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The cast and crew of a low-budget zombie horror movie that's being shot on location in a sleepy English village have the already troubled production of said movie further undermined by a series of gruesome murders that are apparently the work of an actual werewolf.

Writer/director Pablo Raybould keeps the enjoyably daft story zipping along at a snappy pace, maintains a likeable lighthearted tone throughout, makes neat use of the gloomy English countryside, and derives plenty of laughs from an amusing sense of distinctly dry'n'droll British humor. Moreover, it's acted with zest by an enthusiastic cast: Laurence Sanders as both the dim-witted Les Jarvis and stuck-up prima donna star Greg Lupeen, Chris Simmons as the laid-back Mike, Ben Manning as cranky bartender Bob, Raybould as a plodding detective inspector, Ste Johnson as bumbling copper Haskins, and Joel Beckett as harried director Bruce. The werewolf looks pretty gnarly. Extra points for a few nice nods to "An American Werewolf in London." A real hoot.

I love the interaction between the 3 main guys!
dcorvino22 September 2022
I love this movie! Pablo Raybould is hilarious as the Inspector. His reactions to Haskins are perfect! But the chief reason I fond this movie so fun to watch is the interaction between the 3 main guys! Mike, Bob and Les. Their dry humor is perfect! I love how Bob never cracks a smile. How Mike continuously mocks Les. And how Les always seems to come up with the perfect absurd line. The werewolf is secondary to the humor in this film and I loved it. I would love to see these three guys in another movie. Their chemistry is magic! Raybould does a fantastic job as director. He brings out the best in every character.
