Sex & Nudity

  • Partial only female nudity including bare breasts and buttocks. Topless male nudity and also buttock nudity as well as infrequent genital nudity.
  • A woman strips nude in front of her brother and many others and bathes publicly in an outdoor water trough. Partial female breast and buttocks nudity.
  • Women are shown removing their clothes, showering and bathing nude as well as scantily clad in only their bras and panties. Ample female cleavage is also frequently focused upon.
  • A lengthy strip club scene displays female breast and partial buttocks nudity,, but no full nudity. Many brief closeup camera body shots show various areas of the females while dancing erotically, alternating with cuts away from the dancers.
  • The CBS Broadcast Version removes all the nudity.
  • Beth can be seen having sex with a younger man in one episode. She can be seen moaning and thrusting while getting pushed up against the wall. Beth is also drunk in a season 1 episode and gets into the cow trough naked her boobs vagina and butt are all seen.

Violence & Gore

  • Car accidents lead to bloody injuries and bodies.
  • Characters are attacked or killed, e.g. beaten up, punched, kicked and shot.
  • Animals are killed, e.g. a horse is shot and a wolf is run over.
  • Several men and one woman are branded throughout the show. Some of these scenes are quite painful to watch.
  • There are several brutal fistfights throughout the show with strong impact.
  • Several shootouts throughout with bloody images.
  • Lots of violence some more graphic than others
  • Two dead mutilated corpses are hung outside a mans home as retaliation for a brutal rape.
  • An explosion happens in a meth lab leading to a gruesome aftermath. One man suffers severe burns, as well has having his leg blown off. He is then shot in the head.
  • Kevin Costner shoots a horse dead.
  • A man shoots another man dead as retaliation for kidnapping his son. Very graphic and disturbing.

Profanity

  • Several uses of the F-word, as well as other uses of strong and mild language.
  • Pretty much every episode uses strong language.
  • Infrequent uses of "cocksucker" and "cunt"
  • Jesus used as swear word many times
  • Overuse of the f word and other profanity.
  • Seasons 4 & 5 up the language to about 40-50 f words per episode.
  • Strong language.
  • The CBS Broadcast Version removes all the major curses.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Characters are seen drinking and smoking in many places, e.g. clubs and bars.
  • Beth can be seen smoking and drinking in several scenes, her character's recurring theme alcoholism, which is briefly explored in some episodes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Scenes featuring animals being killed might upset some viewers.
  • SUICIDE TRIGGER WARNING: Season 1, Episode 3. Somewhat graphic.
