Well made drama thriller.
paulclaassen26 August 2018
Exceptionally well-made drama-thriller about a family of robbers and a robbery gone very wrong, and effectively portrays how the lives of innocent people are thrown into turmoil due to wrongdoers. Although I did find the film a bit slow moving, it was never boring thanks to a fantastic script.

Solid Basic Story
JoelChamp8521 March 2021
This is a small tale of a criminal based family who finally go too far during a robbery. The actors are really good and it's shot well. The story itself is simple but clear and watching this makes me want to see the cast in a bigger picture because they sold this story.

Strong Premise, But Fizzled Out
mcjensen-0592429 November 2020
This story, while done countless times before, can still provide a very intriguing movie. This one started strong, but ultimately fell into all the cliches and stupid moves that causes most movies in the thriller/drama genre to fail. There's not one character here that a viewer can emphasize with. By the midway point in this it's obvious that the writers had no idea how to progress the plot in any unique manner. The dialogie and action sequences were eye rollingly ridiculous and the viewer eventually wants all of them caught and hung just so they won't say or do any more asinine things. Dull, unimaginative and predictable drivel. Skip it. There's much more competent and enjoyable offerings out there in this vein.

Conflicting Loyalties in Rural Connecticut
ronnoco2828 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie on the Streampix Channel, which is the channel where those of us who cannot afford the mainstream premium channels spend our time. The movies on here are mostly forgettable, but this was one of the better ones, and a pleasant surprise.

Excellent cinematography, recreating the atmosphere of small-town rural New England working-class folk. Excellent acting by all the actors and actresses involved.

The theme concerns a smart-aleck high-school kid (Joey) who goes along with his father and uncle (?) and participates in a night-time burglary which goes awfully wrong. The rest of the film deals with Joey's conflict in remaining loyal to his father while observing how the consequences of the crime are shattering the lives of others. The mutually troubled, confrontational relationship between Joey and his Dad is apparent, but also their intense devotion to each other.

The dinner-table scene where Joey and his father compete with each other for the respect of Joey's two little sisters is great. It came out just right, it wasn't over-acted or melodramatic, and it conveyed the family dynamic of restrained, but emotional passion, quite well.

If there's a flaw in the movie, I think it might be the decision of the father and uncle to do away with Tara, which seemed to come out of nowhere. Their decision to kill her to keep her from talking to the police just didn't seem logical. She really didn't know any details of the crime, her threat to go to the police wasn't even directed toward them, and it didn't make any sense or seem to be in character for them. They were small-town crooks, not cold-blooded murderers.

I suppose they had to come up with a reason for Joey to betray his father and uncle, and so they came up with that. In spite of his complicated relationship with his father, Joey was intensely loyal to him, and it would take something very grave to cause him to betray his father's trust. Nevertheless, it seemed to me to be rather contrived, and not in keeping with the rest of the movie.

Still, the movie was a pleasant surprise in the great wasteland of today's television, and was a worthwhile experience.

This is a really well done although low budget film. You can't help but get caught up in the drama with the kid. Everyone knows someone like him.

Delinquent is a hidden gem
fowlergabe13 December 2018
This is the type of film that I hope will find success with a wider audience in the years to come. Delinquent is an incredible dialogue driven film from first time writer/director Kieran Valla and wow does he knock it out of the park. The script and story is strong, though it does falter slightly in the second act. The entire cast gives A+ performances, especially Alex Shaffer in the lead role as well as Bill Sage as his father. The cinematography is truly haunting, and while I may be biased as I grew up in northern-Connecticut where the film is based, I felt completely as if I was there. The final shot of the film has stuck with me sense seeing the film for the first time. Delinquent is a hidden gem and I'd strongly suggest checking it out.
