Huge gap is a huge letdown

Warning: Spoilers
I seriously looked twice if I accidentally skipped a season.

While the qualities of the series remain, the decision to leave a six month story- gap between the first and the second season baffles me. There were a lot of questions left, and while they get somehow answered, it's massively unsatisfying to have them resolved by just fast forwarding.

Most of them won't get answered in the coming two episodes as well, and the feeling of disconnect remains, constantly wondering "what happened" or "how did this happen" or "how did we get here". How did Christina clean up after the last thing we saw was her getting back with Terry? How could the boys afford to move to a new place even though not getting paid and not having enough money is not just a constant theme of season one, but continues right away? How does a guy like Keith own a house after spending years in prison and a halfway house?

All of it wastes the great buildup from the previous season and turns what used to be interesting questions into common plot hole. And since new struggles have to be introduced and build up, everyone is treading his or her (new) water, so the pacing hasn't exactly improved.

To be fair, it's the high standards the series set up until this point that turn all of of this into such a huge letdown. But that's what it's been so far.
