Honestly worst movie I have seen this year
james_shaw19907 April 2016
This is the first IMDb review I ever written and this movie was so bad it compelled me to warn people to not be fooled into watching this. The acting isn't the worst I have seen, they actually improve during the second act, as if they had acting lessons during the filming but the script and plot are some of the worst. It's like a movie that is self aware of how terrible it is yet still too proud to make fun of itself. If you do plan on seeing this, get ready to spend the first 45 minutes of this "horror" movie without so much as a jump scare, following the most obnoxious stereotypical douche-bag college kids do nothing but make you wish they would die sooner and even when they do, it doesn't feel satisfying. You know a horror movie is bad when they cant even make the death of these cartoonesque morons enjoyable. The only justifiable reason to see this movie is to have something to rant about and you will want to get this off your chest pretty quick like I have.

Lame Story, Screenplay, Characters, Cinematography, Camera, Lighting
claudio_carvalho15 April 2019
The college students Laurie (Laura Flannery), her best friend Faith (Ashton Leigh), her boyfriend Mick (Jamie Nocher) and their friend Joey (Anthony Del Negro) head to California on vacation. They take the exit 14 out of the interstate and soon they realize that they are lost. The stop at the gas station and convenience store owned by the gentle Roy (Tom Sizemore) that gives the right direction to the group. However the car has a problem and stops, and they call Roy to tow the car to his mechanical shop. Roy offers his house for the group to spend the night and soon they realize that the exit 14 does not exist.

The lame "Exit 14" is one of the worst movies ever made. The senseless story has a terrible screenplay and begins disclosing awful characters: Joey is annoying, silly and inopportune; Faith is promiscuous and stupid; Mick and Dad are uninteresting and Laurie and Roy are the only reasonable characters with potential, but are not developed. The cinematography, camera and lighting are amateurish. "Exit 14" is a forgettable film and a waste of time. My vote is two.

A far from scary exit
TheLittleSongbird30 March 2018
Was not expecting an awful lot from 'Exit 14', will admit that right off the bat. The concept did sound very derivative and schlocky, and because a lot of films seen recently blew their potential there was a lot of scepticism. Saw it anyway however because the cover was pretty eerie and there is an appreciation for the genre, plus an air of curiosity.

Even for someone with low expectations, 'Exit 14' failed to deliver on almost all levels. It started off reasonably well, there was a slight eeriness to the opening. The best thing, or at least the least bad thing, about 'Exit 14' was the acting, it wasn't exceptional (though nobody embarrassed themselves) but considering what they had to work with, which was terrible and would have been beneath even the worst actors and actresses, it was better than average.

As indicated, that the acting was not too bad is something of a miracle. Considering that they had characters so sketchily written, let alone developed, obnoxious and impossible to relate to, and really insipid and stilted dialogue that shouldn't have gone beyond the "coming up with ideas" stage.

There is nothing tense, creepy or suspenseful, even fun or interesting. Just lots of predictability, lazy derivation (if it was paying homage to fellow horror films, there is nothing affectionate or clever here), really dull pacing and cheesiness. The ending is weird and barely comprehensible, one of the biggest head-scratchers for any recent film viewing, as well as feeling like it came from a different film tonally.

'Exit 14' looks very schlocky visually, while the direction lacks focus and the music has no atmosphere or anything memorable or fitting at all.

In conclusion, have seen worse but a mess. 2/10 Bethany Cox

Nope

Just don't waste your time watching this movie. If I had to pick any positive, it's that this movie is pretty funny. It promises some form of horror story-line and fails to deliver on an epic scale. Even the music fails to be atmospheric, and most of it's "originality" comes from generic jump-scare effects easily found on YouTube. The acting is not the worst of all time, but it could have been so much better. The movie is full of cliché's and plot-lines that make no sense at all. It's so predictable, that it's just not worth the wait for any "scare". Even the ending makes absolutely no sense. I've seen some bad movies, but this one wins the cherry. Be warned, this movie is a complete waste of your time. Go watch Dawn of Justice. It's far better than this.

YOU AND ALCOHOL AND ME. SOMETHING MAGIC WILL HAPPEN.
nogodnomasters23 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Two college couples are headed to Panama City for Spring Break. They get lost and have vehicle trouble, forced to spend the night at the hospitality of Roy (Tom Sizemore) a nice man who knows how to fix cars, but knows nothing about plumbing. To create some drama, two of the people who aren't couples had a one night stand, and Faith (Ashton Leigh) wants to confess to Laurie (Laura Flannery) she scored with her boyfriend Mick (Jamie Nocher). Roy tells them a story about the resurrected dead etc. etc. and keep the mirrors covered...which they did so it never played into the film in a clever way. In fact nothing really played into the film in a clever way. Oh wait that necklace thing, maybe.

The film was boring, the dialogue was rough, and the female actresses were apparently couch cast. What made the film worse than what it seemed was the awful soundtrack. What was that stuff? Riffs from an old "Planet of the Apes" film? And who the heck decides to name themselves "Elvis & Nixon'? What a sad cry for attention.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex, Almost a frame of side-breast. Kids puking and taking a dump.

Time I Will Never Get Back
lthaddeus21 May 2018
I honestly like John Schneider but he definitely needs help when it comes to making a horror movie. I sincerely tried to give this movie the benefit of a doubt but it only took time I will never get back. Not only was the audio terrible but the acting was worse. If you're a sap for bad movies, this one is up there with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! John, honestly, a wineo could write a better script! Don't be fooled by the high reviews cause this one sucks!

"There ain't no exit 14"
bkoganbing23 April 2019
Nothing special here, two teen boy/girl couples have the car break down and they turn off and go to a convenience store. Creepy owner Tom Sizemore invites them to spend the night. As you've seen a gazillion of these before you know what's going to happen.

Sizemore and John Schneider as one of the fathers are the names you know in the cast. Schneider looking very embarrassed and Sizemore hams it up. It's what you do, ham when you're in a turkey.

Nothing new here, skip this one by.

OK at best
YRLY59E16 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers may ensue.

This movie borrows many elements from other movies. It makes it too cliché to be really enjoyable. I literally had this figured out in the first 10 minutes.

You've got your typical spring break horror movie, a couple of kids go on a road trip and things fall apart. You've seen things like this before, Wrong Turn, Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc.

Now throw in your typical helpful seeming but really evil character.

Add some elements of House of Wax, Psycho, The Skeleton Key, and Cabin Fever. Stir all of it together and this is the end result.

The general plot is some college kids go in a road trip, there is a detour. They stumble upon a gas station. The proprietor seems friendly. Shortly after leaving their vehicle breaks down. Gas station owner tows car back to the gas station. The car can't be fixed that evening so he takes them to a house to stay. They are told an old story about a witch, get drunk try and summon the spirit. One kid becomes inexplicably I'll. Cell phones disappear or don't work. One finds one and calls 911 only to learn they can't pinpoint the location and exit 14 doesn't exist. Two leave, go back to shop confront the owner who you know is evil by this point. He gets shot multiple times at point blank range by the one guy and the guy shoots his girlfriend by accident. They drive back to the house to rescue the other two. The guy's girlfriend appears to die but comes back to life claims she doesn't remember it and then kills him. Then they show her in the house having the gas station owner's mother's spirit has taken over her body, he's still alive despite being shot multiple times and isn't hurt at all and brings her some tea. He then has to go back to the station for a customer, it turns out to be the one kid's father. They both shoot each other and it cuts to credits.

The ending is inexplicably stupid. If the gas station owner survives multiple close range shots presumably having something to do with his mother being a witch of something then the father just dies. How the father even found this place when 911 can't makes no sense at all. Why would the father just shoot him anyway, it's just cold blood murder, presumably he'd want to find his son and shooting him would get him nowhere. They should have just ended the movie at the point where you learn the mother has assumed the girl's body.

The movie itself is never scary. The plot is predictable and just a mixture of elements of other horror movie plots. The middle 1/3 is easily forgettable.

There are glaring plot holes. The gas station is well stocked with name brand products, cigarettes and so on so it can't be all that off the beaten path. Despite this there are all these leaflets of missing kids. If this weren't that far off the beaten path these disappearances would be much more closely investigated. Secondly if all he needed was a body for his mother to assume there would be no need for mass numbers of kids disappearing.

The acting was decent enough to warrant most of the 4 stars I'm giving it. OK at best.

Worst Horror Movie
siddharthrajput-2534714 September 2023
I can't even begin to describe the sheer agony of sitting through "Exit 14." It's a horror movie in name only, as it fails miserably in delivering any semblance of a coherent story or genuine scares. This film is the perfect example of how not to make a horror movie.

The plot, if you can call it that, is an incoherent mess of random events strung together with no rhyme or reason. It's as if the script was written by a group of preschoolers playing with a ouija board.

As for the scares, well, there are none. The so-called "horror" in this movie consists of cheap jump scares that are so predictable you'll see them coming a mile away. There's no tension, no suspense, and certainly no originality. It's as if the filmmakers took a checklist of horror clichés and ticked them off one by one.

To make matters worse, the cinematography is amateurish at best, with shaky camera work and poor lighting that make it difficult to even see what's happening on screen. The special effects are laughably bad, with CGI that looks like it was created on a budget of five dollars.

In conclusion, "Exit 14" is a trainwreck of a horror movie that should be avoided at all costs. It's a prime example of lazy filmmaking, with no story, no scares, and no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Save your time and your sanity and steer clear of this cinematic abomination.

A compelling watch! 9/10 easily, would have never picked the twist
meaghan-potter039 April 2016
I have to say, i'm an avid horror watcher and this one really impressed me. I started skeptical, but i really recommended staying with it as the twist is like nothing i have seen since SAW the original came out. It was a strong mix of supernatural and backpacker slash-em-up, like a cross between insidious and wolf creek.

Fantastic cast, will definitely be seeing these guys go places. I would however warn anyone who is easily scared to watch out for this one, I'll be having nightmares for weeks (or at least sleeping with the lights on!). Can't wait for Exit 15, getting all my friends to see this one.

A Must See!

Reasonable
harrimarri6 May 2017
I've read some of the reviews here - some are far too generous (perhaps fake) while some are severely harsh. Personally, I'm in the middle here.

However, based on the performances of a few cast members of Exit 14 (who maintained my interest), along with the lack of CGI and other predictable methods of 'captivating' an audience (which would have only bored me), I believe Exit 14 deserves to be viewed in its entirety.

The cast of this movie may not be well known, but the characters of Laurie, Joey and Roy are compelling enough to have kept me watching Exit 14 from start to finish.

Plot-wise, the movie is of a genre which has been around for decades - although horror/supernatural, Exit 14 is not much of a slasher movie. It could even be a made for TV movie, as there is little to offend, apart from the occasional swear word.

As Exit 14, has received a lot of negative reviews, in its defense, I can make comparisons with bigger budgeted movies, with a A/B-list casts: I enjoyed the movie and at no time was I tempted to walk out, which is something I am prone to do, if I feel disappointed. If you can rent this, then do so - it's a bit of entertainment, after all, and if you bring few expectations to Exit 14, you won't be disappointed.
