Karen Gillan is increasingly busy of late. The Scottish actress, known primarily for her time with Matt Smith’s Doctor in the guise of Amy Pond, has just completed the second of her Guardians of the Galaxy film as well as a leading role in the new Jumanji film with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. She starred in the underrated TV show Selfie, and has had small roles in films such as The Big Short and Ti West’s In a Valley of Violence. Now she takes on another challenge – her first film as director.
Tupperware Party, which she will star in as well as being the writer and director, is filming in Scotland right now, with Mt Hollywood Films producing. Gillan explains the film,
“Tupperware Party follows the story of a girl called Lucy who lives in Inverness. She is dealing with the suicide of her best friend.

Talulah Riley, best know to many for her smaller, supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s Inception (or from St. Trinian’s 2), dives behind both the laptop and the camera here as she makes her debut as writer/director with Scottish Mussel, as well as playing one of the film’s leads. The film, which was an idea she […]

There’s a fair chance you’ve seen Talulah Riley on screen before. She cut a striking presence in Joe Wright’s Pride and Prejudice and the two St. Trinian’s movies before dipping her toes in films across the pond, with Inception and Thor: The Dark World among them. Today her debut film as a writer and director […]

★☆☆☆☆ Talulah Riley plays three roles in rom-com Scottish Mussel, acting as star, writer and director. Sadly, her feature debut is as vacuous as they come, without so much as a morsel of skill on display and lacking both drama and humour. Ritchie (Martin Compston) is a chancer who spends his days hanging around at the pub with best mates Danny (Joe Thomas) and Fraser (Paul Brannigan). Disillusioned with their poor lifestyle, Ritchie sees money in mussel farming and volunteers at a wildlife centre in the Highlands. As he schemes to sell mussel pearls he falls in love with conservationist Beth (Riley).

"Scallops. You've got a bath full of scallops." Check out this quirky trailer for a very odd indie comedy called Scottish Mussel, which is an awkward play on words considering this is a romantic comedy and yet it's also about mussels, meaning molluscs. Scottish Mussel is the directorial debut of actress Talulah Riley, who also stars in the film as the conservationist beauty who falls for an an illegal pearl fisher. Martin Compston plays a "Glaswegian chancer" who head to the Scottish Highlands to make money diving for pearls with his two friends. The romance angle is extremely cliched, with the obvious aspect of the two of them hating each other before she convinces him that mussels are worth saving. The cast includes Morgan Watkins, Joe Thomas, Harry Enfield, Rufus Hound, Camille Coduri & Marianna Palka. Dive in. Here's the official trailer (+ UK poster) for Talulah Riley's Scottish Mussel, direct...

When Elon Musk split up with wife Talulah Riley for the first time, he told the whole world. "It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever," the entrepreneur Tweeted to the British actress in January 2012. "You will make someone very happy one day." Eighteen months later, that happy person apparently was him, as they tied the knot again in July 2013. But the rekindled romance didn't last.
