One of the greatest South Park episodes
rubfey13 November 2014
I don't usually review things, but this episode left me completely stunned and at times mindf**ked. The episode deals with the occulus rift device which makes you part of a virtual reality. It starts out simple by Cartman messing with Butters as he always does, but then it turns out that maybe Cartman is the one being messed with, and it then soon turns into a huge paradox in which no one knows what's real and what's not. It's such a great spoof of movies with virtual realities and at the same time it's absolutely hilarious (the Indian customer service guy). All in all this is one of the greatest South Park episodes I've ever seen in which I sometimes literally laughed my a** off.

A fantastic mind boggling episode
varun_12014 November 2014
Grounded Vindaloop has to be the best episode of 18th season so far. The previous episodes were not that funny, but this one was a mind tripping laughter riot. It was like watching Nolan's film which is very intricate, but satisfying to the core.

There was a point when we can't understand what's reality and what's virtual world. This episode was on Oculus Rift- which is virtual reality headsets for 3D gamings. The episode tells that it really messes up your head. The customer service executive part was particularly hilarious. I think its first time, Matt & Trey made such an intricate episode.

They surely can try in this genre as well, apart from just comedy. Two thumbs up & I give 10/10 to this episode. I know now that Matt & Trey have still a lot to offer after 18 years.

Amazing as a standalone piece of television & South Park episode
farstu30 August 2015
South Park has never left me speechless or thinking about the 'big' questions, but after watching this episode, I am simply stunned. The initial gag is at first funny, but when the plot actually gets set up, you are completely sucked in trying to understand what is going on. It's not like other episodes that rely on shocking jokes and cheap humor. This episode is smart, clean, and comments on what we believe reality is. The ending seals the deal as something completely out of character of the show happens, but adds to the overall quality of the show.

Absolutely insane, especially from Matt and Trey. Hopefully more South Park episodes will be this thoughtful and deep.

Absolutely the best episode ever
fabiogaucho30 September 2015
I had stopped watching South Park some years ago after watching the entire 12 or 13 first seasons. I felt the series was relying too much on toilet humor and just became exhausting.

But the other day I decided to download and binge watch the past few seasons. Good stuff alternating with lame stuff, all normal. If you watch one after the other, on average you will be entertained, since the very good ones cancel out the so-so.

But then this episode came and blew my mind. It's the best I've seen, and the IMDb community seems to feel the same way, given the 9.2 rating. I could not stop laughing from beginning to end.

Well written episode
Devincano19 November 2014
This episode took it up a notch it really showed at least in my opinion that Matt and Trey still haven't lost there touch. The written in this episode was especially on point. TO the point that you will be thinking to yourself what it happening. Now many people complained about the face that this episode reminded them about Inception which it did to me too. BUt that is not the problem the problem is that they think that this episode wasn't original which in some points they are right. In other words some people are saying this episode is basically Insheeption and I can see why because it reminded me of that episode too. But either way the episode was very funny and thought out the whole reference to the GTA series was pretty funny. The whole costumer service was funny but I felt it was to dragged on and lost its touch at one point. Then the whole conversation with Kyle and Cartman was pretty funny the whole fu talk. Either way this was a funny well written episode that stepped it up a notch and made my expectation a little higher for season 18. 9/10

Greatest Episode Ever

Warning: Spoilers
Trey and Matt were at their peak here! A perfect episode in my opinion. It had it all!! Cartman and Butters episode mixed with the rest of the cast and a very funny Indian telemarketer. I've been watching all the eps in order and I was in bed about to fall asleep but heard some of the jokes and it grabbed my attention. I don't remember ever seeing this one so I was in for a treat today when I came home and watched from the beginning. Cartman is messing with Butters with some phony Oculus Rift... or so it seems. It's got a Total Recall vibe (the writers played on the term) that makes it a well thought out episode. There is some good social commentary and ongoing jokes that make "Vindaloop" the greatest episode ever! "Fuuuuuuuck YOU!"

A Funny Mind-Tripping Episode
camachbr013 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is sad but this season of South Park has been bringing many current events to my attention that I didn't know of before. That shows you how much I watch the news and read the papers. Anyways, after watching this week's episode I learned about the Oculus headset, which is a virtual reality headpiece that's coming out in 2015.

This episode opened quite enjoyably with Cartman once again screwing with Butters by making him believe Eric's homemade Oculus ripoff, scrapped out of garage equipment, was actually sending him into a virtual reality--- this reality. I was all smiles when Butters was walking around school with the Oculus headset on, raving about how "real" everything is.... of course it is, BUTTERS, it's the REAL world. HA.

Like with every Cartman-Butter's scheme, things goes awry. Butters completely buys into the virtual reality world so much that he actually goes on a GTA style rampage, stealing cars, assaulting hookers, but best of all blasting his father in his private area for all the times he's been grounded. There sure has been a lot of emphasis on Stephen Stotch's character this season and it's made him one of the more interesting parents to watch behind Randy Marsh.

After a visit to an updated looking Hell's Pass Hospital the episode takes a turn into this wild never-ending maze. Apparently NONE OF THIS IS REAL and each setting is just another virtual world for another one of the boy's in their Oculus headsets. The problem here is that the Oculus's have malfunctioned and the characters are stuck believing their virtual world is real and they can't get out. Sounds confusing? It is. The whole episode, although entertaining, keeps flipping the script so many times that I lost which reality they were in rather quickly. What keeps this 'Inception/Memento' mind trip going are the light gags such as the "grounded" rules of virtual reality that state if your grounded in virtual reality you are grounded in real life, and the "f--- youuu" the boys utter whenever a new reality is introduced. There is also the Indian guy customer service gag, which is an okay joke, but in the "real world" even though we do stumble upon the occasional heavy-accented representative, most of them actually speak fluent English. I shan't forget the references to The Matrix and Inception and probably other films I don't know.

In the end, the episode was able to dig itself out excusably, ( I really didn't think it had a chance), with a little live-action South Park and a rip on the series' graphics.

Uniquely this week's South Park brought to my attention a current event or new technology, but didn't quite offer an opinion about it. Instead it took the virtual reality concept of Oculus and made a wildly imaginative and ridiculous premise out of it and let the boys play around in it. After opening strong with Cartman and Butters, the rest of the jokes were able to generate smirks. The subject matter was very confusing especially the cuts between the Indian representative talking to himself, but the resolution was somehow able to clear up everything and excuse the traffic.

3 more episode remain in this season!

Holiday special I hope!

till next week.

One of the best episodes. The end scene was awesome. 😂🤣 I haven't recommended anything to anyone for awhile but I messaged my friends and asked em to watch this episode.

Their feedback was that they loved it too.

If you haven't seen this episode, check it out,

Extreme fun virtual reality paradox
celiawatsonanime17 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Most of the episode you just don't know if the boys are in virtual reality or not and the episode gets very confusing in a really fun way. The Indian Oculous customer service guy and Kyle getting real emotional, upset and confused is fun.

The best part of the whole episode is Butters getting revenge on his parents and acting like it's grand theft auto not realizing it's actually real life and he suffers consequences.

The gag near the end when they're finally out of virtual reality and they have real life 10 year olds dressed as the SouthPark kids is silly.

This episode is very good but not one of the best in the entire series, it's funny.

My Favorite episode.
Patric714 January 2022
No really, my favorite episode. I've been watching South Park since it was first run and have seen every episode at least twice. This is my favorite one.

Even better than "Eeeck a penis" or "Butter's bottom bitch".

But don't take my word watch it. At least twice.

Masterpiece of an episode!
michaela_endomela13 July 2021
They did it again, but better than ever!

Deriving from The Matrix and Inception, this episode is all about virtual reality.

It is mind-blowing and just mesmerizing to watch.

Maybe one of the greatest episodes to date!

Loses a star for an inaccuracy
10086cn3 July 2021
I ALMOST would have given this episode 10 stars, except... there was a very meddling inaccuracy (which startled me). When it comes to Indian call centers, they pretty much never have multiple clocks up on the wall showing different time zones, and as proven by Jim Browning in his Dumbest Scammer Awards videos, if you actually do ask an Indian tech support person what time is it (in a particular time zone), they either won't give a straight answer or they would have to resort to looking it up on Google. So to see those clocks up on the wall in the scenes featuring Steve (the customer service representative), it just didn't feel right.
