Mark Wahlberg was "really happy" to have signed up for 'Play Dirty'.The 53-year-old actor stars in the upcoming thriller film - which follows the revenge of a professional thief who is double-crossed and left for dead - that is directed by Shane Black and described the movie as being a mix between classic heist flick 'The Italian Job' and the 1995 thriller that starred Al Pacino. He told Collider: "For me, it's like ' The Italian Job' meets ' Heat'. It's got the action, it's got the high stakes, it's got the humor, it's got these great characters, the best Shane Black dialogue. I waited a long time to get a script like that. Mark Wahlberg has been attached to a remake of The Six Million Dollar Man since 2014, with Peter Berg, Damian Szifron, and Travis Knight among the filmmakers to have taken a crack at the project before it got caught up in rights issues at Skydance.
All we really know is that the movie has been retitled The Six Billion Dollar Man and that Wahlberg still hopes to play the title character.
ComicBook.com spoke to the actor at the premiere of his and Halle Berry's new Netflix movie, The Union, and asked where things stand with the project. This is going to stun anyone who grew up on 21st century superhero cinema (which kicked off in 2000 with Bryan Singer's "X-Men" and only now seems to be on the wane), but what if I told you that in the 1970s, there were television series dedicated to the Hulk, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man, and they weren't the main small-screen pop cultural obsessions for sci-fi/fantasy fans? Not even close.

Mark Wahlberg says they are hoping to get Lee Majors to make a cameo in his movie adaptation of 'The Six Billion Dollar Man'.The latter had the starring role as former astronaut, Usaf Colonel Steve Austin, in 1970s TV classic, and Mark, 52, has been trying to get the film up and running since 2014, when he was cast in the titular role, with various changes to studios, directors and so forth setting them back. However, he's hopeful the flick will make it to the big screen and confirmed they are "pursuing" Lee, 84, for an appearance. He told Parade magazine: "I've spoken to Lee on a number of occasions. Unfortunately, most of the time I had to call Lee and tell him, 'Well, it's not happening yet but we're not giving up hope.'"Asked if he will appear in the movie, he said: "We would love that, and I know he would love that.

The sci-fi action TV series The Six Million Dollar Man was so incredibly popular when it was running on ABC back in the 1970s, it’s shocking that the franchise hasn’t received a revival outside of a few TV movies that aired in the ’80s and ’90s. It’s not for a lack of trying – in fact, an update called The Six Billion Dollar Man has been making its way through development hell for almost thirty years at this point. Mark Wahlberg has been attached to star in the project since 2014… and during a recent interview with Collider, Wahlberg expressed hope that The Six Billion Dollar Man will finally be going into production soon.
Inspired by Martin Caidin’s 1972 novel Cyborg (which received three sequels), The Six Million Dollar Man had the following synopsis: After a severely injured test pilot is rebuilt with nuclear-powered bionic limbs and implants, he serves as an intelligence agent.

When Sue Kroll, whose executive producing credits include “A Star Is Born” and “Motherless Brooklyn,” stepped on to produce “Birds of Prey,” she understood the “big responsibility and expectation” that came with making a comic book movie based on a beloved female outlaw.
“We always wanted to make sure that we were making a movie that fans would love,” Kroll told TheWrap. “There is so much fan interaction with these big franchises, and they come with a big responsibility and expectation. Fans have expressed concerns over previous films in the universe, that they were too dark, and because we were representing characters that were unique — this was the first time we were seeing Huntress or Black Canary, they had never been in a movie — that came with responsibility. Making sure that everyone would be happy with what we put together but also creating balance that was broadly appealing for both men and women.

The Uncharted movie adaptation has yet another director as Bumblebee's Travis Knight steps into the role.
Travis Knight has agreed to direct Sony's Uncharted movie adaptation.
Knight is perhaps best known as the director of the surprisingly good Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee, which was the first live-action film he directed. Before that, Knight primarily worked as an animator on such as Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls. He's also seemingly still set to direct The Six Billion Dollar Man: an adaptation of The Six Million Dollar Man which clearly accounts for inflation.
Tom Holland is reportedly still playing Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted adaptation, which is now set to enter production sometime early next year. There's still no official word regarding how the film's script will tie-in to the Uncharted story presented in the video game series of the same name.

Development continues on director Travis Knight's action feature "The Six Billion Dollar Man", updating TV series "The Six Million Dollar Man" (1973), based on author Martin Caidin's novel "Cyborg" (1972):
"...when 'Nasa 'astronaut 'Colonel Steve Austin' is severely injured in the crash of an experimental aircraft, he is 'rebuilt' in an operation that costs $6 million , with his right arm, both legs and left eye replaced with 'bionic' implants that enhance his strength, speed and vision far above human norms.
"He can run at speeds of over 60 mph (97 km/h), and his eye has a 20:1 zoom lens and infrared capabilities, while his bionic limbs all have the equivalent power of a bulldozer. He uses his enhanced abilities to work for the 'Osi' ('Office of Scientific Intelligence') as a secret agent.."
"The Six Million Dollar Man" aired 100 episodes, spawning spinoff, "The Bionic Woman".

Mark Wahlberg’s Six Billion Dollar Man film project has landed a great new director! Warner Bros. has hired Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight to helm the project! I love what Knight has done with those two films, and it’ll be cool to see how he handles The Six Billion Dollar Man.
The Six Billion Dollar Man is based on the classic 1970s sci-fi TV series The Six Million Dollar Man, which tells the story of former astronaut named Colonel Steve Austin, who had superhuman strength due to bionic implants and was employed as a secret agent. The series and film are based on novel Cyborg, by Martin Caidin.
Knight will direct from a script written by Bill DuBuque (The Accountant). Peter Berg was originally supposed to direct the film, but he ended up dropping out of the project.

The hero of Leigh Whannell’s exhilarating and visceral film is quadriplegic by day but a software-powered avenger by night
The latest sneak attack from genre kings Blumhouse is an unusually patient, detailed and visceral cyber-thriller that plays like a Black Mirror rethink of The Six Billion Dollar Man, and may be the closest any mainstream production is likely to get to Japan’s cult Tetsuo movies. Left embittered after a carjacking that kills his beloved and puts him in a wheelchair, petrolhead Grey (Logan Marshall-Green) enters into a confidential pact with a reclusive, ominously peroxided tech genius, becoming the guinea pig for what’s dubbed “biomechanical fusion”: a microchipping operation that reboots his broken body with a Hal-like operating system and heightened physical capabilities. Does it endow Grey with renewed peace? Big nope.

Netflix has made a deal with Mark Wahlberg, Peter Berg and the Robert B. Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date for Mark Wahlberg’s sci-fi action film “The Six Billion Dollar Man” by a year, moving the opening from May 31, 2019, to June 5, 2020.

Mark Wahlberg is set to star as former military officer Steve Austin, who becomes a secret agent after a horrific accident when his life is saved by cutting-edge bionic implants that grant him extraordinary abilities.

Damian Szifron has departed the director’s chair on Mark Wahlberg’s sci-fi actioner “The Six Billion Dollar Man” due to “creative differences.”
Warner Bros. confirmed the departure on Tuesday. The studio bought the rights to the project late last year from the Weinstein Company, which had been developing the movie with Szifron — best known for directing the Argentinian drama “Wild Tales.”
Warner Bros. announced in March that it had set an early summer release date of May 31, 2019. The studio is seeking a replacement for Szifron.
“The Six Billion Dollar Man” is based on the sci-fi TV series “The Six Million Dollar Man,” about a former astronaut, Colonel Steve Austin, portrayed by Lee Majors. Austin’s character, employed as a secret agent, had superhuman strength due to bionic implants. The series ran for five seasons on ABC between 1973 and 1978, and was based on Martin Caidin’s novel “Cyborg.”
