The entire film was shot within 30 days in both North Dakota and California.
Director Dan Glaser used flip phones for the characters in the film to help give it a feel that wasn't specific to one exact time period. Glaser said he also just couldn't see McCoy using an iPhone. Similarly, McCoy's character uses a cassette tape player, another timeless object.

This is the third collaboration between director Dan Glaser and actor Steven Molony. The previous two being Oxenfree (2016), and Pinching Penny (2011).
