Warning: Spoilers
This episode really dove into the business aspect of things. Not sure if that's the right move, but it might be what we need right now. The writing and acting is a bit goofy three episodes in so they need to give these characters dimension and heart. This episode attempted to do that, but is still struggling to really find its footing.

Inconsistent Fighting Ability
ShatPack9 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 1.3 shows additional character development for most of the supporting cast. Danny Rand is not gaining any depth of character or charisma during this past hour. In fact the little fight scene is the hospital records room is a degradation in Danny Rand's abilities and is extremely inconsistent on his past prowess. The encounter with a flunky who is searching for medical records turns into a fight in close quarters that for all purposes, he struggles to overcome. In fact he loses the battle.

This scene shouldn't have been made. They could have shown flunky in the records room, then the fire or theft, then Danny complaining that they are missing. This would have been the Same result for the storyline without Danny getting his butt kicked by some random record thief.

Poor writing to get an additional fight action scene.

I hate to be nitpicky, but I can't help but feel annoyed about the inconsistency in Danny's fighting prowess. In one moment, he's effortlessly beating hired grunts left and right without taking even a single hit, and in the next moment he's struggling to beat one guy who, for some reason, is wielding both brass knuckles and a knife in one of several awkward scenes in this show. Like bobcobb301 mentioned, the writing and acting are quite goofy and awkward at times, but it's the inconsistent writing that really lets the show down. Hopefully, it only gets better as the show progresses.

A-Ha!

So, three episodes in and we've gotten a glimpse of the "Iron Fist", a bit more of Danny's backstory, more insight into the Meachums and the re-appearance of another MCU supporting character, Madame Gao. We also come to understand that Joy & Ward are both hard-driving business sharks that will pretty much do anything to get ahead, leaving Danny to turn to another MCU supporting character & fellow shark, Jeri Hogarth.

The biggest problem I have so far is that none of the main characters here are particularly likeable, especially the lead. Instead of building a solid anti-hero like Jessica Jones or Frank Castle, Danny Rand comes across not as a fish out of water, but one you want to throw back into the sea. There doesn't seem to be much attempt to make anything about him sympathetic or even relatable other than making other characters more despicable.

One note; Henwick seems to be getting a handle on her character & despite being underwritten so far, she's managing to convey a lot with very little. And, her cage match sequence is a bright spot in the episode.

So-so

More martial arts action in this episode, but a lot of it feels extraneous and as another reviewer has noted, quite goofy when it comes down to it. Kudos to Jessica Henwick for pulling out of the bag in her role, but the rest? Merely so-so.
