Great, even if there were many slow patches along the way
Tarx30924 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Strangely I keep seeing people heralding this episode as something godly; although it was great, it certainly wasn't perfect. The concept of the episode was very simple: Jessica had Kilgrave as a prisoner and she tried to get information out of him. There weren't any sub-plots, they just entirely focused on this one idea. Unfortunately the first half of this episode was very slow moving, to the point where you could literally cut out the first thirty minutes and you would have missed almost nothing - it was just endless conversations between Jessica and Kilgrave that didn't accomplish anything. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed these conversations a lot, and I generally found this episode pretty suspenseful. However once you look back on the episode as a whole, it's less powerful. Great dialogue, just no events to follow it through (at least in the first half). It's only really because of the second half that I'm giving this episode a large score of 8/10 - from the moment Jessica found Kilgrave's parents everything started picking up. I really enjoyed the entire story surrounding Kilgrave's parents here (and their death was surprisingly sad), and it was all incredibly convincing. David Tennant's performance was particularly good here, and ultimately, as always, he was best part of the episode. In the end a great episode, even if it wasn't as good as some people are making it out to be.

The real world is not about happy endings
jhudson-1170430 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Jessica is practically at the finish line now. With Kilgrave in a cage (a technologically advanced one), a camera set up and pieces coming together., Kilgrave manages to flip the table and shift the scales. On the side, Simpson gets treated and Jery's life, um, well, heats up a bit.

Jess manages to inch closer to getting Kilgrave. With him in her "care", we see that while he is imprisoned it is cool to see how he still has the power over her. This is shown extraordinarily well when she tries to get him to use his powers on her in front of a camera. It did seem that he might break but the fact that Trish had to physically stop her helped out Kilgrave tremendously.

I did like how during the episode, Jessica managed to put the pieces together for finding Kilgrave's parents. It evolved at a good pace and it was interesting to see what his parents had to go through. It was actually very heartbreaking to see that his mother went to the group therapy sessions. She never spoke or anything but she was seen a few times so it wasn't really sprung on us. I loved and laughed how Jessica just blatantly told the guy whose jacket was stolen by Kilgrave to get over his "loss". Compared to others, I have to say he got off easy.

The end of the episode with Jess bringing KIlgrave's parents to him was so well done. Watching Kilgrave play everyone was phenomenal, as you could even buy that he might have been sincere about being with his parents. That is until he made them hurt themselves. However, this does show Kilgrave's powers off, on camera and in front of a cop so we could be getting closer to Hope being freed. Kilgrave does, however, manage to get away but we get one important new piece of information: Kilgrave can no longer control Jessica! This will totally help her out now and really push the story.

Simpson, surprisingly, survived the bomb Kilgrave set off. Looks like he's recovering through some other means which might be a fun avenue to go through, given Simpson's past. Those pulls are most definitely physical enhancements of some kind which probably won't mix well with Simpson's recklessness.

Jery's storyline is getting so annoying and boring. It does look like it might add to the story though as it was because of Jery that Kilgrave could escape. I will say though, the scene between Pam and Jery in her office was pretty hot.

+ Ritter/Tennant + Case closing + Who has the power + Kilgrave's games + Simpson's recovering - Jery/Pam/Wendy storyline

Final Score = 9.3/10

Jaw-dropping and eye-popping, this is television at its finest!

Warning: Spoilers
After capturing Kilgrave last episode, Jessica desperately tries to get him to give her some evidence. After a botched first attempt, she goes looking for his parents to try and spin him up into a rage. She also tries to bring the cop in as a witness. In this sense, everything was setup for the final scene, although we got some really cool Hannibalesque moments with Jessica interrogating Kilgrave.

The last ten minutes was one of the most intense things I've seen on a screen. Jessica launches her plan, and it obviously goes wrong. For the first time ever, I genuinely felt bad for Kilgrave. In that scene, I sympathized with every character, knew where they were all coming from, and watched in horror as they clashed tragically. In the fallout from this sudden and horrific climax, a twist is revealed that changes everything and I probably should have figured out a while ago.

Favourite Episode of the Season
Alex_Hodgkinson21 November 2015
This episode is easily my favourite of the season. The discussions between Kilgrave and the different characters is amazing, especially with Jessica. There's a great deal of tension throughout the episode and I couldn't help but be reminded of 'Silence of the Lambs' with Kilgrave being secured in a room. The revelations are unexpected and the final five minutes will cause your heart to pound. Possibly one of my favourite all time TV episodes. The only thing holding it back is the tiresome love triangle that should have been dealt with in a couple of episodes. The cast put on excellent performances, especially with Tennant truly taking Kilgrave as his own.

Truly awesome acting all the way round!

David Tennant is nothing short of a tour de force... inevitably, I'm sure, he'll meet just ends, but I'd rather see someone help him to convert his powers for good. Would never work, of course, but he's super easy on the eyes and just a gift to watch! What a score it was for the casting team - his taking this part, that is!

Torture
Hitchcoc31 July 2019
Putting Kilgrave in a torture chamber apparently accomplished something. He is in water and Jessica is able to shock him. She is looking for him to show who he really is. Meanwhile, all kinds of methods are used to attack him. Of course, some of those who see him want him released because he is being tortured. It doesn't matte how many people he has caused to slaughter one another. But there is a level of foolishness here that throws everything into a mess. Also, the old short circuit comes into play. This is so patently ridiculous.

Thriller
amindostiari28 March 2021
Finally, an episode of this series can be called exciting. I really hate the actress of Jessica from my heart, and I hate Jessica's character design. Only sub-characters except Luke and Malcolm attracted me to this series. Kilgrave is great and I think he's a good person and Jessica is a bad person.

Crazy people doing crazy things
doappel20 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
* Invite everyone to Kilgrave's cell * Leave others alone with Kilgrave, even the untrustworthy. * Send his parents in his cell * Don't check anyone for weapons nor if the shock mechanism is intact * Trish takes the 10% chance of stopping Kilgrave, with the 100% risk to set him free

I could probably add more. I simply don't like stories that are primarily exciting because everyone seems to go crazy. This episode offered some really interesting interactions involving Kilgrave, but the final minutes ruined it all for me.

Pertinent to this episode only (kind of)
chiguy1721 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, overall, I really like the series, but one thing REALLY annoys me - her powers/strength aren't consistent whatsoever. In one scene she can throw a man through a window, in another, she can't stop one man trying to restrain her. It's absolutely ridiculous. She's supposed to be this super human hero w super strength, flight and (limited) invulnerability, but when the plot calls for it, one guy can keep her from stopping the bad guy?!

Crushingly dull
Leofwine_draca25 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Another crushingly dull episode. The viewer is forced to ensure tiresome romance that belongs in another show altogether while Tennant continues to ham it up with little restraint. I'm astonished that a popular show like this can continue to have such an unlikeable lead.

Lazy stupid writeing
ilyasmessi5 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Getting everyone to go crazy and do stupid things to move the story is a cheap move from the story writers and just playing with the emotions of the viewer I mean getting the parents of KillGrave to go to him was just selfish and stupid at the same time and the parents' acceptance of going is more provocative Also, his mother stabbing him in the shoulder is very stupid. I mean what would she expect if you tried to kill him, go to the head, but hitting him in the shoulder was just stupid. Allowing jerry Haggart to be alone with Kilgrave is arrogantly stupid, because Jessica knows first she's an unscrupulous prankster, and second she knows she's admired Kilgrave twice. Not being electrocuted before putting two people in front of a serial killer was also unbearable stupidity.
