Quotes

  • Portuguese Son : This is a very broken door.

Jessica Jones : Thank you for the diagnosis. What's it gonna cost me?

[the father and son converse in Portuguese, then hand her a piece of paper]

Jessica Jones : You got the decimal in the wrong place.

Portuguese Son : [translating his father's Portuguese]  My father says, "This is our business, not a charity for women with broken doors."

Jessica Jones : Just fix the god damn door. I'll cover it.

  • Malcolm Ducasse : You're a good person, Jessica Jones.

    Jessica Jones : You're high.

  • Trish Walker : I hate feeling this way, I don't know how you handle it.

Jessica Jones : It's called whiskey.

  • Jessica Jones : Do you know any drug dealers?

Luke Cage : I own a bar in Hell's Kitchen. What do you think?

  • Jessica Jones : So, just how unbreakable are you?

Luke Cage : On a scale of "I don't know" to "I'd rather not find out"?

Jessica Jones : So if I were to bite your finger, with all of my considerable strength...

Luke Cage : Depends on how considerable. So don't go getting any ideas about my extremities.

  • Luke Cage : So, what else you do? Can you punch through a wall? Can you stop a moving car?

    Jessica Jones : A slow-moving car.

Luke Cage : Can you fly?

Jessica Jones : It's more like jumping... and then falling.

Luke Cage : Okay, there's you, me... the big green dude and his crew. You think there's more of our kind out there?

  • Luke Cage : I protect myself and what's mine. Being a hero puts a target on your back.

Jessica Jones : Been there, done that.

Luke Cage : The hero gig?

Jessica Jones : I gave it a shot once.

Luke Cage : Tell me there was a costume and you still got it.

  • Jessica Jones : More?

Luke Cage : Nah. I'm full.

Jessica Jones : I wasn't talking about food.

  • Luke Cage : Does anyone else know about your abilities?

Jessica Jones : A couple. I'm not hiding, but I'm not advertising.

Luke Cage : People find out, they either come at you with a noose or their hands out. I got no use for either.

  • Luke Cage : Just say it woman.

    Jessica Jones : Say what?

Luke Cage : Whatever it is you've not been saying since I met you.

Jessica Jones : I haven't... not said anything

Luke Cage : Is it a racial thing?

    [Jessica give him a look]

    Luke Cage : I'm kidding.

    [pause]

    Luke Cage : Is it?

  • Jessica Jones : You turned my room into a gym?

Trish Walker : I needed a place to train.

Jessica Jones : By training, you mean getting beaten black and blue.

[Trish hurls Jessica to the floor]

Trish Walker : No one touches me unless I want them to. I let you fight my battles for too long. When you left...

Jessica Jones : You became a ninja?

Trish Walker : Krav Maga - more brutal.

Jessica Jones : Can you back off a little? You're scaring me.

Trish Walker : [chuckling]  I'll make sandwiches.

  • Radio Host : It's not the first time we've seen a vicious killer lay the blame for their actions on someone else. Remember, Son of Sam said he was taking orders from his neighbor's dog. We laughed at him, through our tears, and we should laugh at Hope Shlottman. She claims to have been controlled by someone else. But she's just another weak and damaged person hiding behind the timeless excuse that 'the devil made me do it'.

Jessica Jones : [Voice-over]  But what if the devil actually did make you do it? Even if you could prove it, would people ever forgive what you did? Could you ever forgive yourself?

  • Jessica Jones : Sufentanil is only available in hospitals, so unless you know any morally compromised doctors...

Trish Walker : All the doctors I know save small villages.

    Jessica Jones : Figured.

  • Jessica Jones : Is this why you have the video surveillance and the steel reinforced door?

Trish Walker : And bulletproof windows, a safe room. I made some upgrades.

Jessica Jones : You... What you made is a fortress! Trish, what are you afraid of?

Trish Walker : Not much, anymore. Except clowns. But that's just common sense.

  • Trish Walker : I had to defend Hope. Hogarth was throwing her under a bus.

Jessica Jones : Hogarth set you up to defend the crazy-ass notion of mind control.

Trish Walker : ...So she wouldn't have to. God, that is so smart. And evil, of course.

  • Will Simpson : Trish Walker is dead.

Kilgrave : Is Jessica aware of Patsy's death?

Will Simpson : She saw everything.

    Kilgrave : Was she upset?

    Will Simpson : Very.

Kilgrave : Well, a lot of people will be. Patsy was such an icon. Personally, I always thought her television show was shite. Honestly, Patsy was a... grating teenage do-gooder. So sanctimonious. Why Jessica was so attached to her, I'll never understand.

    [watching a soccer match]

Kilgrave : Don't just kick it all the time, you ginger twat!

    [to Simpson]

Kilgrave : Oh, you're done here. Leave.

Jessica Jones : [watching from a skylight on the roof]  I see you, asshole.

  • Trish Walker : I can't just go on the radio and say "mind control is real."

Jessica Jones : But people trust you.

Trish Walker : Yeah, that's because I back up my claims.

Jessica Jones : You know it's true.

Trish Walker : I'll think about it. And in the meantime, you're hiding from Kilgrave, right?

Jessica Jones : No. If he was coming after me, he would've done it by now. I think with me, he's more into torture and long-term suffering. I'll catch you later.

Trish Walker : I knew it. You said "let's do lunch." You hate that saying.

Jessica Jones : Because it's stupid. You eat lunch.

Trish Walker : It sounds better than "Let's do Jessica another favor."

Jessica Jones : Look, it's not that, all right? I just... I really need to get some drugs.

Trish Walker : Uh, graduating from alcoholism?

Jessica Jones : They're for Kilgrave. Surgical anesthesia knocks out his powers.

Trish Walker : Okay, that is huge.

  • Wendy Ross-Hogarth : What are you doing here?

Jessica Jones : I need a doctor. A somewhat flexible doctor.

Wendy Ross-Hogarth : Uh-huh. Did Jeri send you?

Jessica Jones : No. I want Sufentanil. Actually, I need it. Badly. And I'll do anything for you to get it. Anything.

Wendy Ross-Hogarth : Surgical anesthesia? Um, do I look like the kind of doctor who would feed an addict's drug habit?

Jessica Jones : I hoped. Figured I would ask, maybe get lucky.

    Wendy Ross-Hogarth : Get out.

  • Trish Walker : The interview is set for tomorrow. You wanna be here?

Jessica Jones : You found a brainwashing expert?

Trish Walker : Better. And I gotta say, Jeri is a force of nature. She is the one that made it happen.

    Jessica Jones : Jeri Hogarth?

Trish Walker : We're doing a live remote with Hope from the prison.

    Jessica Jones : No.

Trish Walker : Jess, you asked me to defend her.

Jessica Jones : Yeah, not to drag her out in public with her guts hanging out.

Trish Walker : Hey, it's me. I'm on her side. I'll go easy.

Jessica Jones : Trish, he'll be listening. He wouldn't miss it.

    Trish Walker : Probably not.

Jessica Jones : He'll be listening to her and thinking about me.

Trish Walker : He's already thinking about you.

  • Jessica Jones : I know what's going on. One of New York's sharkiest lawyers is divorcing you. Do you think you're gonna get a penny out of Hogarth? You could use someone in your corner.

    Wendy Ross-Hogarth : You're making a lot of assumptions.

Jessica Jones : What assumptions? That she's a lawyer? A shark? That she's divorcing you.

Wendy Ross-Hogarth : Storms blow over.

Jessica Jones : Lot of wind, lot of rain.

Wendy Ross-Hogarth : Jeri's smarter than this. You don't throw away the life we built together. She'll see that eventually.

Jessica Jones : Maybe if you do me this favor, she'll be reminded of your good heart.

Wendy Ross-Hogarth : I have actual patients waiting for me. You need to go.

Jessica Jones : Look, there is someone out there doing a lot of harm to a lot of people and as crazy as it sounds, Sufentanil is my only chance at stopping him.

Wendy Ross-Hogarth : [writing a prescription]  I don't have access to surgical anesthesia, so here is a prescription for an anti-psychotic. It's for you.

  • Luke Cage : You know somebody else like us?

Jessica Jones : No. Not like us.

Luke Cage : Well, you're the first I've met. Were you born this way?

Jessica Jones : Nope. Accident. You?

    Luke Cage : Experiment.

  • Luke Cage : It's nice to grub out with a girl who likes to eat.

Jessica Jones : Well, we had quite a workout. I've never done it with someone who has, you know...

    Luke Cage : Gifts?

Jessica Jones : Yes, well, you are very gifted.

    Luke Cage : Likewise.

  • Jessica Jones : I need a drug.

Luke Cage : Any drug? You're gonna have to be more specific than that.

Jessica Jones : It's called Sufentanil. It's... used to knock people out for surgery.

Luke Cage : Can't help you there. Is that really why you came here at this hour?

Jessica Jones : Well, I figured, NSA and all, you wouldn't wanna talk about this over the phone.

  • Trish Walker : What the hell are you doing?

Jessica Jones : Trish! He's listening, hearing you...

Trish Walker : He'll hear the truth.

Jessica Jones : He doesn't want the truth!

Nicole : We've got a few calls coming in. Let's start with Susan in Vinegar Hill.

Jessica Jones : [cutting the call off]  Trish. You're gonna piss him off, Trish.

    Trish Walker : Good.

Jessica Jones : No, not good.

Trish Walker : So he gets to run around, destroying lives, destroying your life, and I have to just sit here and shut up?

Jessica Jones : Yes! Until I neutralize him.

  • Jessica Jones : [after taking down people Kilgrave has been controlling]  God, I hope this is only a three-person family.

  • Jessica Jones : [hearing a DJ discussing Kilgrave]  What, are you trying to drive customers away with that shit?

Cashier : You don't want to buy here, don't buy here.

  • Luke Cage : [seeing the cuts on Jessica's face]  Rough night?

Jessica Jones : I did something.

Luke Cage : Looks like it.

Jessica Jones : [he opens the door to his apartment]  I can't come in. Ever. This isn't right.

Luke Cage : Feels right to me.

Jessica Jones : I have business. Unfinished. And you've been through too much for me to...

Luke Cage : Can't handle a dead wife, huh? Do what you gotta do.

  • Jessica Jones : What if there was someone else out there... but his ability was to make people do whatever he wanted?

Luke Cage : You mean like mind control?

Jessica Jones : Or exactly mind control.

Luke Cage : Is this about your case the cops grilled me about? The girl who shot her folks in your building, claims some guy made her do it?

Jessica Jones : Maybe she's telling the truth.

Luke Cage : Maybe she's nuts. You go into a bar any night of the week, you'll find some crazies arguing with the voices in their heads.

Jessica Jones : What if I believed her? Would that change your mind?

Luke Cage : I'd believe that you believed it.

Jessica Jones : Says the man with unbreakable skin.

Luke Cage : You can see my skin. You can touch it. But you got no idea what my mind is thinking.

    Jessica Jones : I think I do.

Luke Cage : Okay, then. I got no idea what you're thinking.

Jessica Jones : I think you do.

  • Jessica Jones : [seeing the bruises on Trish's arms]  Jesus.

    Trish Walker : What?

Jessica Jones : Jesus Christ, Trish!

Trish Walker : Oh. It's nothing.

Jessica Jones : Who's doing that to you? Is your mom back?

Trish Walker : Just calm down, will you?

  • Jeri Hogarth : As you can see, Trish, my client's delusion is quite fully formed.

Trish Walker : Wait, you're dismissing the possibility that Hope is telling the truth?

Jeri Hogarth : That she was telepathically compelled to kill her own parents? It's unprecedented, to say the least.

Trish Walker : As was the city being attacked by aliens, but it happened. Buildings were destroyed, people were killed. Perhaps what happened to Hope has happened before.

Jeri Hogarth : Well, certainly, if there are other people who feel they have been controlled by this Kilgrave character, they are more than welcome to contact my office, but it is more likely that my client experienced a psychotic break.

Trish Walker : Uh, Hope has no history of mental illness, has shown no evidence since...

Jeri Hogarth : Trish, sounds like you believe this Kilgrave is real.

Trish Walker : I believe it's naive to assume he isn't. So, yes, I believe he's out there, this sick, perverted man...

Jessica Jones : No, Trish! Trish, shut up!

Trish Walker : He is preying on the hopeless so he can feel powerful, probably terrified of his own weakness, which suggests impotence.

Jessica Jones : You need to cut her mic right now.

Nicole : We're in the middle of her broadcast.

    Jessica Jones : Cut it!

  • Jeri Hogarth : Jessica, you can't just barge in here.

Jessica Jones : Hope Shlottman is getting crucified in the media and you need to get out there and defend her.

Jeri Hogarth : Well, until I have irrefutable proof that she's not a lunatic, I will not get involved with the public debate.

Jessica Jones : You would if you had any balls.

Jeri Hogarth : If you would like to display some courage, let's talk about your testimony.

    Jessica Jones : My testimony?

Jeri Hogarth : About you being another one of Kilgrave's victims.

Jessica Jones : [realizing]  Hope. She told you.

    Jeri Hogarth : Mm-hmm.

Jessica Jones : You like having something on me, don't you?

Jeri Hogarth : I like winning cases, and your story will help me.

Jessica Jones : My story will put me in the same position as Hope.

    Jeri Hogarth : Incarcerated?

Jessica Jones : Kilgrave leaves a trail of broken people behind him. Get some of them to testify.

Jeri Hogarth : You get them, I will use them.

Jessica Jones : I am busy trying to bring Kilgrave in. Change public perception and victims will come forward.

Jeri Hogarth : If I go public, I undercut my credibility, which will hurt any argument I bring to trial.

Jessica Jones : Oh, so you're a cheat and a coward.

Jeri Hogarth : Careful, Jessica, because I am the only other person who is trying to save Hope's life.

Jessica Jones : [deadpanly sarcastic]  Your compassion is overwhelming.

  • Trish Walker : [Jessica is trying to convince her to put Hope on her show]  Trish talk is a lifestyle show.

Jessica Jones : Being in prison is a lifestyle.

  • Ruben : He came into our apartment by mistake. Guess I forgot to lock the door after I took out the trash.

Malcolm Ducasse : The elevator went too high.

Jessica Jones : You're too high.

Ruben : ...Robyn was asleep. I was in the other room with my beetle collection and I heard the door, and then there he was. Eating our peanut butter. Robyn was so scared. She thought he was a rapist or something, till I turned the light on.

Jessica Jones : It's broad daylight.

Ruben : We have foil over the windows.

    Jessica Jones : Why?

    [Ruben opens his mouth]

Jessica Jones : No, I don't want to know.

Malcolm Ducasse : She hit me with a little man.

Ruben : It was a trophy.

Malcolm Ducasse : Of a little man.

Ruben : It was a little woman, actually. Bowling trophy. She bowls like a dream... I mean, I guess he is kinda scary, if you just wake up and you don't know him and maybe you're a bit racist...
