Got Them All In
Hitchcoc9 March 2023
This is just for fun. Once again we have people all bent out of shape because the don't see continuity. We have a group of characters that we know and love appearing in an homage to Alfred Hitchcock, among others. Booth and Brennan maintain their TV names and work together in an update of To Catch a Thief. While the plot is a little weak in places, they manage to bring everyone on board. Some play against type along the way but that is part of the fun. Brennan and Booth are a very attractive pair and it is sort of cool. What is missing is a spark. They don't exude the sexuality they both possess and that's a bit of a drawback. Things should have been a bit more sultry!

Lots of fun
JCinHB13 September 2023
OK.... what is with all the negative reviews complaining about this episode??? I think they did a great job giving a nod to the films of yesteryear .... stop thinking too hard about it and picking it apart so much.

So let loose and enjoy this episode and enjoy the cast doing a fine job , don't be a fuddy duddy ....

I liked how they mixed up the cast into different characters ..... if you wanna have an hour of fun with a blast from the past...

I don't have anymore to say about the episode, but I have to get 600 characters in the review... just watch the episode and enjoy.. I think you will realize how much fun this episode is.

Brilliant! and Fantastic Music!
info-779-89395118 May 2015
Brilliant Hitchcock opening--the car scene along the California Coast! Earlier complaints about the moving screen background when driving don't understand films of the period. This was a standard technique, and adopting that here just underscores how carefully they crafted this episode. Music throughout is fantastic and creative with instrumentation like shows in the 50's and 60's. Somebody did their homework. Love the nightclub scene complete with Ricky Ricardo type Cuban band. Same with excellent costuming, hair and makeup. So fun to see all the players in this film noir detective yarn! A fitting tribute to a wonderful show! Long live Bones! Hope it runs another decade!

Fantastic episode

Warning: Spoilers
The 200th episode of bones was just plain fun!

I'm not a movie expert, nor can I compare and contrast this unusual episode to the famous films or TV shows I'm sure it tried to emulate, but the fun the cast and crew put into it definitely shines through. It looked like they were having a great time, as did I.

I loved seeing all the actors playing their same roles, but different as well. And such a full cast, they hauled out everyone from the past, practically. I particularly liked when Pallant (sp?) handed Brennen the phone, oh the look she shot him. Very funny.

Great episode. I'm thinking of watching it again. I'm sure there are things I missed.

Good Fun!

Everyone rating this badly I feel sorry for you. Such lack of imagination and just grumpy spirits. And the guy complaining about the size of the dinosaur? Seriously? If you've watched this show for 9+ seasons and still somehow think you deserve scientific accuracy, like WTF?

Fun tribute to film noir of late '40s/early '50s!
hummelstuff31 January 2023
I'm a new fan of Bones, having found it on BBC America. Now I watch it every time it's on, which is all day/evening Tuesdays and Wednesdays. While I have many favorite episodes, this one is in my top 5 if not the No. 1 favorite on my list.

I love TV shows that do such a creative episode and portray an earlier time period. Can you imagine the fun the cast had, stepping out of their normal characters to film this? The wardrobe! The decor! The cars! The DC-3 airplane!

I can only wonder about the age group of the low-rating reviewers. Perhaps you are too young to "get it"? I grew up in the 1950s. This is how films and TV shows were. Corny? Maybe. But this episode is certainly charming and a great tribute. My advice: Don't take entertainment TV so seriously. Sit back and enjoy the moment.

66 Sunset Strip horoured in 200/199 episode
abwetman-1-81732813 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The episode pays homage to the cast by using a Hollywood opening to remind people these are actors not real people and is wonderfully shot. In with a what is a nod to the lighting and cinematography of the fifties it is perfect. The costuming is spot on and cars fun. Even the make up works to gets that 66 Sunset Strip feeling.

That all said the direction ( by David ) is a little stilted and the dialogue even as a spoof is hackney. The performance by everyone is great except the wildly scene chewing by T.J. Thyne.

Trivia: you can see Miss Deschanel different states of pregnancy as her belly expands and contracts during the episode

The use of classic Perry Mason credits makes urn for their return.

Just Delightful!
enoswad11 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this episode for the first time as a rerun today and was delighted to see how it was made as a 1950s movie. The characters' coy repartee was endearing; and I love *love* LOVED the costumes and hairstyles!

I also found the hokey mistakes that would have been made back in the 1950s to be a treat (eg, a driving scene where the background is city when viewed from the side, but a forest when viewed from the front--hilarious)!

The exciting action scene on the plane and another guest appearance by Billy Gibbons (this time including a couple of killer guitar riffs) put this episode over the top for me!

The.Worst.Bones.Episode.Ever.
babsbunny23-755-67930131 March 2024
Seriously. This was the 200th episode so they wanted to make it special, but it was awful. They were trying to recreate the magic from the nightclub episode where they were all playing different characters, but this one fell flat. I've noticed the writer from this episode really hasn't written since, and honestly, well deserved as I would say that for this episode the writer should have been blacklisted. Seriously the most painful episode to watch. From using the actors real names at the beginning to the time period. Nothing worked in this episode. I skip it every time I rewatch the series. It also shows how limited many of the actors in the series are, because many of them are only saying things the way the characters they usually play would, when they are supposed to be another character entirely. The only positive about this episode is that the abhorrent Dr. Wells does not make an appearance.

Awesome Bones
PartialMovieViewer15 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was excellent. Happily, the awkward Bones-to-Booth chemistry returned, which, to a point, was the cornerstone of early show successes. Absent was the social preachiness (or maybe I slept through it); the supporting cast-members were not tripping over each other for their turn on center stage, and all those irritating squint-wanna-be-parts were minimalized (as they should have been all along.) I mean, come-on, with Seeley and Temperance, who else is really needed? This story was solid and performed superbly. This is the 'old school' Bones I miss so much and wish they had stayed with. Alas, the past cannot be erased and backpedalling, at this juncture, would be impossible. You can only shoot J.R. so many times to earn a redo. I do hope the writers, directors and producers stay with this formula. Ending their last season by embracing this approach would really be a nice gesture for the die-hard fans. If they do this I will begin watching regularly, again. Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz are outstanding together. I do miss 'Sweets' and would have liked to have seen more of Patricia Belcher. The other cast members are good as well, but for this show, can survive without them. Honestly, they are best relegated to support, and that is where they all shine. I am not saying they cannot hold their own in a starring role; they probably can. I just don't think 'Bones' is the right show for any of them to take center stage (with the exception of Billy Gibbons). Anyways, I do hope to see the remaining shows like this; it was awesome. I always like that emotional tug…I can't stomach the social commentary. Thanks

Archie Leach was here!
baudalaire29 June 2021
Wonderful pastiche of Hitchcock (Vertigo, To Catch a Thief, Rear Window, et Al), film noir (Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, Chinatown &c.), and a nod to Howard Hawks comedies (Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday etc.).

If you didn't get it, you didn't get it, and that's a pity. Masterful playing and writing across the board, great fun!

The Hitchcock in the MacGuffin
pensman3 February 2023
In a paean to Hitchcock and."To Catch a Thief" among others, this episode is pure fun (at least for those of us old enough to know the allusions). The plot is almost superfluous to the cars, the music, the clothes, the nightclub, the dialogue, the plane chase, etc. No wonder David. Boreanaz. Wanted to direct. You even have a short scene with. Billy Gibbons removing those trademark sunglasses. I could imagine a younger audience feeling this was a useless, silly, boring departure from the standard pace of the show. If you had no knowledge of. Xavier Cugat and. Abbe Lane the the club scene with the elaborate staging go the. Cao Cao number would be a head-scratcher. If I can borrow a line from The Twilight Zone, then this was an episode for the angels.

Highly sophisticated!
fybamgd25 February 2023
The plot was almost average, and the tribute to film noir was one of the best I've seen in a long time. The acting was superb! This cast has shown so much talent in taking on roles that yeah maybe come from old- fashioned times but man, they can present the greatest entertainment. I loved it! 11 stars... David Boreanaz has always given 120% to his roles. He actually reminds me of one of the great actors from the 60's, James Garner, whose acting profession as a leading man was so awesome. David has that same professionalism in his career as an actor, producer and director, and I could go on and on but really I love him!

Worst episode ever....
bgomba28 December 2014
What was this episode? The most awkward and pathetic episode since the beginning.

I hope there will be no similar parts like this in the feature episodes. The latest seasons was worst and worst but this in this episode the writers gone to far to create a more romantic and sappy story than ever. Also didn't liked the characters was ripped out from their usual roles and the whole "team" mixed into a romantic Pulp Fiction.

Also the appearing side characters was annoying and awkward not entertaining.

Amazing Episode, one of my favorites
baedewolf26 October 2021
This was truely a fantastic episode of bones! While I agree with some people on here that the dialogue was a bit spoofy, I think that was the point. The actors did great in their respective parts. This was an awesome way to celebrate the 200th episode and a really entertaining episode.

Terrible 1940s Acting Rendition
HelloBlockbuster15 December 2022
Carla Gallo was the only saving grace on this episode, which isn't surprising as this wasn't her first rodeo with period acting. (Mad Men) TJ Thyne came in right behind Carla Gallo with a believable portrayal. That all said, this episode felt more like satire than an actual attempt at recreating 1940s stylized acting. The main distraction from the storyline was the back and forth between 1940s acting and modern acting methods. Stick to one, for the love of all things cinema. Lol

The props and wardrobe for the show were en pointe and awesome, for the most part.

Ultimately, it was just a super weird way to commemorate a 200th episode.

Where did this come from?
ahsu-3705330 April 2015
I've been watching bones for a very very long time. Since it first came out. When this started playing on hulu I thought it was a different show! Probably the weirdest episode that has ever come from Bones. They tried so hard to emulate that time period, but failed heavily cause the actors while good aren't THAT good. Lol to hear Booth calling somebody "sport" haha that was rich. Aside from the bad acting the props and backgrounds were obviously fake. Previously it looked pretty convincing that they were actually drive (Booth and Bones) but in this episode it was painfully obvious they were sitting in stationary car with fans blowing to simulate air and a giant video background. This episode came out of nowhere. I don't see how it adds to the plot of the seasons at all. They should of just done a regular episode.

I can appreciate the attempt but just NO!
Havan_IronOak31 May 2017
I understand the desire to want to do something out of the ordinary for the 200th episode. I also also like that they decided to honor the noir detective genre of the past. The colors are well done, the costumes are great and the music is good.

However, it was an exercise in perseverance to get through this episode. This group of actors is good at spouting the scientific jargon that's so integral to this show and they are charming and easy to watch on a weekly basis but they don't have the talent (or the material?) to pull of this tribute episode.

If you're a completist like me, then my condolences as you watch it. If you're more of a casual Bones fan, just go with that instinct to skip this one as soon as it hits. It doesn't get any better.

Hard to hear what they're saying

The music mostly drowned out the dialog. Can't give it more than a 5 for that alone.

The dromaeosaurid was the wrong size!
invaderserketvantas19 June 2017
Over-all, I've found this episode quite passable, except for the fact that the Velociraptor mongoliensis shown was MUCH too large for that subspecies of Dromaeosaurid. "Velociraptor was a mid-sized dromaeosaurid, with adults measuring up to 2.07 m (6.8 ft) long, 0.5 m (1.6 ft) high at the hip, and weighing up to 15 kg (33 lb)." While the velociraptor shown in this episode was AT THE VERY LEAST 4ft tall. While I enjoy this show very much, I take any discrepancies having to do with my special interest very seriously.
