Marissa Mayer, the former CEO of Yahoo, is recalling her time at the tech company and opening up about some regrets.
During Mayer’s tenure at the top of Yahoo, the company bought the microblogging platform Tumblr for $1.1B in 2013 but feels that they should’ve bought Netflix or Hulu instead.
“We looked at a transformative acquisition, and we bought Tumblr,” Mayer told Tech Brew in an interview. “At the same time, we were also considering whether it was possible to buy Hulu or, ironically, Netflix. And I think Netflix was $4 billion and Hulu was at $1.3 billion at the time. And either of those, with hindsight being 20/20, would have been a better acquisition.”
In 2016, Yahoo wrote down the blogging platform’s value by $230 million. By 2019, after Verizon had acquired Yahoo, the company sold Tumblr for far less than it had paid for it.

Following a string of misfires, critical failures, and box office disappointments, it looks like Eddie Murphy is preparing to star in another movie. But for those of you hoping that it might be a triumphant return, temper your expectations: Brett Ratner is directing.
THR says the two — who previously worked together on 2011's Tower Heist — are reteaming for Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story, a fake documentary about an iconic '60s soul singer named Murray Murray (Murphy). The logline: "After a hot new artist samples his hit 1962 song, Murray attempts to get his old band back together in the hopes of taking down hip-hop." That could be promising, but Ratner being behind the camera is a massive red flag. He's much better at producing and financing films than he is directing them, and Murphy seems to have completely lost whatever star power he once had. (The script comes from writer Chris Case,...

When it comes to actual lip sync talent - if there is such a thing - Malin Akerman won last night's "Lip Sync Battle." Hands down. She was, as Chrissy Teigen put it, "the most adorable gangster" in her "Talk Dirty" performance. "She looks like if American Girl dolls made a thug Samantha."
Akerman, who leads Yahoo's new "Sin City Saints" cast, was legit sexy and had some real dance moves. But Stephen Merchant, co-creator of "The Office" and star of "Hello Ladies," won the night from here just for the, um, balls to show up in those leather chaps with "Nasty" on the back and some extra business in the front.
He kind of lip synched to Xtina's "Dirry," but mostly he just awkwardly jerked his tall British body into various positions. At the end of the dance, Akerman said she loved what was happening around the chaps, asking...

Yahoo has released the trailer for their upcoming March 23 Yahoo Screen episodic series Sin City Saints. Developed by Mandalay Sports Media and filmmaker-producer Mike Tollin, the 30-minute comedy series will star Malin Akerman, Tom Arnold, and Andrew Santino. The show details the travails of a fictional Las Vegas expansion league basketball team, the Sin City Saints.
Deadline reports that Akerman will play a “Stanford-educated lawyer who is special assistant to the league commissioner, sent to ride herd on the unruly franchise”. Arnold plays a casino host and city insider and Santino plays a “rambunctious Silicon Valley tycoon who always wanted to own a pro basketball team but is in way over his head”. Santino’s character appears to be an apt, and maybe very “on the nose”, characterization of new, hardheaded, and “disruptive” NBA team owners, like Sacramento’s Vivek Ranadivé or Memphis’ Robert Pera.
