Could have been better
Abdulxoxo15 July 2020
Okay the movie is low budgeted obviously so I'll keep my review low budgeted too. Haha.

Acting is meh. They keep mentioning Lilith who I don't freaking who it is. Pretty faces. Music is uninspiring. And the ending is ridiculous. CGI sucks, I could do better than that on my laptop. 👎👎

I know who my money's on...
natashabowiepinky7 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Picture the scene: You're a hostage. Two people are looking for you. Along the way, the kidnapper has left tantalising 'clues' as to your location... Complete with your various body parts. After discovering a severed eye and a pair of testicles, one of your potential rescuers says to the other "He might still be alive!!!!" Under the circumstances, as the victim I think I'd rather be dead.

This is the second reinterpretation I've seen of the age old fairy tale... And it's fascinating to see yet ANOTHER new spin on the fable which has almost nothing to do with the original. In the starry Hollywood reimagining, Hansel was a witch hunter, with Gretel as his partner (and secret good witch), and together they traversed Ye Olde World... Taking out witches with suspiciously (for the time...) modern looking weaponry.

This MUCH lower budget effort relocates the action to present day. Hansel still kills magical crones, Gretel is still his occasional sidekick who happens to be a clandestine sorceress and he still has an array of tools to slaughter them with. Here, though (as the title would imply) Gretel is a BAD witch... And plans to murder her brother after he takes out the competition so she can become chief broomstick-riding black-cat-owning of the local area. Can he find out in time now?

Watchable for the most part, with a harem of sexy witches that couldn't be further from the long nosed. green skinned monsters of yore, this isn't half bad... Until we get to the grande finale. Oops. Not only do the events that transpire not make a lick of sense, but what is supposed to be a special effects laden extravaganza peters out like cheap wine...

We get the SAME DAMN ineffective purple blast effect used OVER and OVER again, and some rubbishy glowing generated nonsense which resembles a pumpkin on Halloween. It's the kind of stuff an amateur could add to his Youtube video using a cheap graphics program... Which is GREAT if you want to impress your school buddies. In a feature film however, it's pretty indefensible... regardless of the cost of production.

Plus, the open ended nature of the conclusion would indicate the word 'sequel' isn't too far from the producer's mind. I'm calling it right now... This will NOT be happening. If they used up their A-material with this, I dread to think what a follow-up would be like... Still, you can't ENTIRELY hate any flick with the immortal exchange: " I can explain..." "YOU BETTER F***ING EXPLAIN WHY YOU TORE OUR GRANDMOTHER'S HEAD OFF!!". Trust me... It's much funnier in context... 4/10

Entertainingly bad and cheesy
rprince-832-629426 February 2015
-Hansel Vs. Gretel (2015) movie review:

-Hansel Vs. Gretel is exactly how it sounds, down to the sci-fi original cheese. In a modern update, Hansel, who hunt witches, to track down and stop his sister Gretel after she is controlled by a witch. That is all.

-Take Frankenstein Vs. The Mummy and make it more enjoyable, dumber, and better handled with the modern update.

-So the story is pretty simple and does not try to make too much sense. At all. I feel like I already did this review about two classic storybook characters going at it for the last few minutes of the film. Goodness.

-The pace is pretty slow in the middle. Because not much happens.

-The acting is bad, but entertaining.

-The characters are cheesy, one-dimensional, and inconsistently entertaining!

-The music is not fitting and not terrible, but forgettable.

-The effects and everything that happens for them to occur are laughable.

-I'm going to just get to the point. The film, unlike Frankenstein Vs. The Mummy, does not take itself seriously and was pretty entertaining. The ending dragged on and did not make sense, but the acting, effects, and everything plot related was fun in a cult-classic cheesy kinda way. So without any more hating, I am very happy to say that after watching tons of lame films, I have finally found the first one if the year, because Hansel Vs. Gretel is…. (pause for dramatic effect)…. So bad, it's good!

-I should point out it does have some violence and a few F-words, but not a lot.

Copycat Garbage
zubinster30 January 2015
The scam artists who made this are trying hard to fool the poor suckers who goes for this horrible, horrible waste of time.

Their idea is to capitalize on the big Hollywood release "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters."

Made by Asylum, these people are famous for putting out low budget trash as with titles that mimic big movie releases. They figure that even if 25 people fall for this, based on the buzz about the big release, they will have made their money back.

However, I think they failed. I don't think 25 people bothered with this film. Poor, poor acting. Non existent script. Super lousy production values.

These people are the ones who give Hollywood the bad name that people shame all over the world.

Complete and utter waste of time.

Nonsense Vs Boring
aakudev9 February 2015
I have seen the earlier Hansel Gretel which was a way better movie with good fights and scenes. By watching the earlier one i thought this has to be a good sequel.

The time i started the movie with high expectations, slowly as the time passed away, the excitement came down drastically to a point where i fast forwarded it and still it was boring, and finally i had to stop it.

Looks like somebody has made this movie in their backyard. Poor direction, poor dialogues and acting. Please do not waste your time or you will seriously regret it.

Boring script, bad acting. Simple
bubbster-021161 January 2020
The first Hansel and Gretel asylum film in my opinion was not too shabby, but was better than this one. I expected Asylum to really put their all into this film and beat the odds, but it just seems like the movie was made from scratch. The actors performances could be much better and the script is disorganized at some points. Some points of the movie are so irrelevant and run on to the point where it gets boring. Disappointing on so many levels, and anticlimactic. Corny acting, terrible effects, sad.

Wow! On another level of suck...

Warning: Spoilers
This is the worst incarnation of the Hansel & Gretel story that I have seen so far. I think if push came to shove it would be a good premise. Changing up the usual narrative by making them enemies. However, the execution is sorely lacking as the special effects. The only move these supposed witches have is choking and tossing one another across a room or into a tree. Come on, I'm no expert but you could have spent a little less on costuming and bought another idea.

More Asylum Crappos

Boresville Arizona. Ludicrous at best and downright garbage that's full of dog crap at worse. I'd give it 7 out of 987 million.

Bad witches and their man-meat pies
Chase_Witherspoon30 January 2024
Low budget second instalment in the Hansel & Gretel rip-off franchise features gory make-up and special effects in the telling of a depraved witches coven and the witch-hunter whose dedicated his existence to their annihilation. Lots of wind and smoke machine effects coupled with the annoying over-reliance on CGI spoil what could've been an engaging supernatural horror film, the inept direct to video production values making their unwelcome presence felt just when the audience is becoming hooked.

The cast is committed to their craft here, young star Baross emerges as more than just a talented pie maker, whilst co-star Castles strongly resembles a younger Mariska Hargitay channeling Sarah Douglas' villainous 'Ursa'. Our protagonist witch-hunter hero Lydic is regularly dwarfed by his towering blood-thirsty opponents with their insatiable lust for human flesh, yet somehow manages to hold his own despite being merely mortal.

It's a TV-movie scale made on a feature length run-time, but with dialogue like 'please explain why you tore off our grandmother's head' (expletive redacted), you really can't go wrong if you're expectations are realistic.

If you like horror genre with gory action then this one's for you.
JohnathanRoy4 June 2016
If you like the horror genre with lots of gory action and somewhat twisted surprises then this is a movie for you. Ben Demaree did a decent job at direction given the limited resources and time constraints that go hand in hand with typical Asylum production (Sharknado fame). It was an absolutely fresh take on the old-school Hansel Gretel story. In the story, Hansel (Brent Lydic) and Gretel (Lili Baross) both go looking for their friend who has disappeared, then comes the showcase of a harem of hot witches, Chthonia (Jhey Castles), Circe (Elisha Kriis), Kikimora (Nanrisa Lee) and Morai (Adinett Nsabimana), who are gifted with unique powers. A lot of licking and seducing by sexy witches and headless torsos splattered across the screen. The film is truly a comedy of horrors. That is what makes this film thoroughly entertaining. It's the kind of horror that makes you laugh. Actors did a good job within the boundaries of the material they had been given. When you know what you are getting into with this movie then it's absolutely worth it!

DO YOU WANT ME TO EAT YOU?
nogodnomasters12 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This film is the sequel to Asylum's "Hansel and Gretel" although unless you saw the first one, you wouldn't know it and will be totally confused by the film as "the witch" is long dead. That was the film with Dee Wallace and the meat pies. Brent Lydic has returned to play Hansel. Stephanie Greco had to wash her hair so didn't return for Gretel which is now wonderfully played by Lili Baross who gives us a fine "B" actress performance.

It seems the witch was part of a larger coven and Hansel has been traveling the past year killing witches. He has "seen things that would turn your sh@# white." Meanwhile Gretel has taken over the shop and still makes the human meat pies, which for some reason is a major disconnect for Hansel.

Hansel reads where a friend has gone missing in his home town and goes back to investigate. His sister joins in as well as another young couple and a witch's coven shows up. The title, which is a plot spoiler for the first 30 minutes, when Gretel goes rogue and we never know what side she is on from scene to scene. The end scene brings out our suspicions about Gretel but then tosses some stuff in that really didn't fit in with the rest of the stuff that didn't fit in.

Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

guestar577 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Stars : Jhey Castles,Brent Lydic and Lili Baross.

Write by : Jose Prendes.

Directed by: Ben Demaree.

WAIT a second this is a Mockbuster of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 1& 2 ….Sheesh,#2 wont be out till 2016,But the end of this flick IS A SPOILer ??? Okay,Just gonna get on with my review,For one thing huge fan of Jhey Castles (Haven't seen her since DEATH RATTLE : CRYSTAL ICE,Since was on The Asylum's 'Naughty List' for 2 years and missed her bigger Hollywierd fare.

Jhey leads a coven of witches wanting to pick up where Dee Wallace Stone's LILITH from HANSEL & GRETEL left off.

Hansel has really become a Bad Arse Witch Hunter(c) and Gretel,Not so much.

The Witch Coven members have different powers and so deaths are pretty creative,If that's a 'Thing'.

Oh,Yah,There is A lot of licking going on….
