Really?
c-hallett-smith16 December 2014
I'm a huge fan of factual paranormal shows, and having been watching them for almost 14 years now I like to think I'm at least somewhat competent enough to detect fakes from the real thing. I had somewhat high expectations from the show, given it is Nick Groff's creation, I very much enjoyed him in the Ghost Adventures series and saw no reason to think he'd ever really fake anything. However it really let me down. The constant monotone from everyone involved in this show is very overused and incredibly dull, they really overdramatize absolutely everything and it's hard to believe anything Chad says. The red flag for him was thrown up when it comes to light that he's a relatively well known actor, so there's not a lot of room for belief when it comes to whatever is happening around him, and the overly loud supposed EVPs they receive every other session are downright laughable.

Also, I've never seen nor heard anything about tracking paranormal portals, it'd be nice if the equipment they were using was explained because I don't understand it at all.

Ghost Stalkers; because Portal Seekers wasn't as catchy of a title
Seth_Rogue_One21 June 2015
When I heard about the new series called Ghost Stalkers I was thinking that it was gonna be people with no fear aggressively seeking out for ghosts

But that's really not what this is, actor Chad Linberg who was excellent in the remake for I SPIT YOUR GRAVE I guess got a thirst for more after guest appearing in one episode of GHOST ADVENTURES where the producer and creator of the show; Nick Groff was one of the hosts.

The biggest problem with Ghost Stalkers is that the hosts Chad and John doesn't seem to have much of a desire to connect with the supposed ghosts on a personal level and are far more interested in finding portals which they (primarily John I get the impression of) believe allows the ghosts to walk into our world.

In most episodes they mention the word portal more than they do ghosts, which is bizarre and also annoying and they have some stupid experiments trying to prove that these portals exists, appearantly if you put a smoke machine on and the smoke goes in a circular motion that is proof of a portal to another dimension.

Okay then, maybe you want to try to prove that there is another dimension first or at the very least ghosts before you start trying to prove how they get here.

That's like me trying to prove that God eats goats for breakfast because a number of goats always mysteriously disappear each morning around the world but not proving that God exists in the first place.

They don't manage to gather a lot of evidence either (I don't consider Chad screaming like crazy and jumping up and down to every pop in a building evidence), if any, tbh a lot of the "evidence" they get seems faked like the 8 feet caricature man walking from one side to the other in episode 3 and the door closing in episode 4.

In my opinion I they looked CGI'd, I can't say without certainty that they are, I hope not as I like Nick Groff and Chad Lindberg seem like a nice guy but it does.

No I'd suggest you watch GHOST ADVENTURES instead, or maybe PARANORMAL STATE or GHOST HUNTERS...

Terrible name, so-so reality show within the genre.
acerbus_815 December 2014
Ghost Stalkers ... terrible name. But for the most part this genre of reality filmmaking hasn't set itself apart by having good copyrighters.

For the most part Ghost Stalkers is an alright show compared to it's peers (like for instans Ghost Adventures, Ghost Asylum etc.). Unfortunately GS exhibit the same latent problems that most of the genre exhibit and a few original.

The hosts of Ghost Stalkers had probably looked at the marked of ghost hunting shows before pitching their idea for a show, and concluded that they had to have some kind of schtick to sell it. That schtick is all to obviously an incredible focus on (ghost) portals. This quickly becomes a huge weight on the show as the hosts keep trying to pigeonhole everything (and I do mean everything) into some kind of portal theory. "Some people say they have ghosts here. There must be portals as well." "This was once a big hospital. Then there's definitely portals here." "There's rumors of shadow people. A portal started those rumors." "Somebody snatched my sandwich. That darned portal again." "This dude died? Hey, it must've been a portal who did it." "Look a rock. And it is right under a portal ... maybe."

Most of these ghost shows are terrible in their rhetoric. Whenever they see something it is demonic in an effort to amp up the drama factor. Whenever they talk to "witnesses", they put words in their mouths and so on. Historic records and witness statements are overdramatized, for instance: "There have been sighting of a shadow man. A possibly violent shadow man". But Ghost Stalkers are probably some of the worst at it. Mostly because they have this portal concept they simply have to sell. So whenever they try to conclude anything. It always end up in some ridiculous explanations of lapsed logic about portals.

They try to be "scientific", but with pages taken from the other ghost hunting shows the science involved is kept to a modicum (and I'm being generous here). For the most part they just pull some real equipment in and try to "explain" why the equipment should work with their mission in mind. For instance at one point they put a smokemachine into a room and when the smoke twists a little, they conclude they have a portal.

There's other problems too, the biggest on is the voice-over (done by one of the hosts) that tries to go for some sort of eerie monotone vibe. It doesn't work. It just sounds ridiculous.

Ghost Stalkers has a lot of shortcomings but at least it doesn't have to fill it's running time with recreations and unnecessary horror cuts, to try and make up for little substance. Even though it isn't overflowing with substance.

A long story short. Ghost Stalkers is an alright ghost hunting shows. If you've run out of everything else in that department then it is fair enough viewing. Just don't expect any miracles from it.

Pathetic mockery
Gunslinger74413 June 2015
I've had the misfortune of catching 3 episodes of this on TV. This is just painful to watch to any paranormal fanatic worth their salt.

They contaminate their own video with camera-mounted flashlights, causing most of the hand-held footage to just be a massive glare with the audio of them reaction to a "spooky ghost". Their constant talk about portals will drive anyone to switch the channel before they join the ranks of the ghosts these dorks are "hunting" out of sheer boredom.

They rarely catch any evidence on camera, which are more often aimed to capture the reaction of the investigator to a supposed haunt than anything else, and when they do they don't bother trying to debunk it. It's just accepted as paranormal. The multiple camera angles to their overreactions suggest they've got a multi-camera crew following them at all times. Which will contaminate each other's footage at the slightest miscoordination.

One of them, I think Chad is his name. Squeels like a schoolgirl at the slightest noise, writhing and twitching like he's on fire at an unexpected breeze. Contaminating the audio and video and just generally making a complete fool of himself. Using a disgustingly monotone voice to narrate why he's peeing himself THIS time.

When I saw Nick Groff helped produce this, I had high hopes because of his history with Ghost Adventures. Those hopes were quickly and brutally dashed once I saw the first episode.

Do yourself a favor and give this parody a miss, it is not worth your time.

This by far is One of the worst paranormal shows ever. Completely forced and extremely over acted. The most interesting part of the entire hour is the location. It's sad that a dilapidated, abandoned building has more range than the 2 hosts. Seriously, there is scared/startled and then there is Chad.....I guess you could start a drinking game... A shot for every time the word portal is mentioned. A sip every time Chad squeals like a girl. Sub par evidence with a feel good hug at the end... Gave it two episodes. Will not torture myself with a third. Sorry Destination America... This one stinks. Will stick to some of my other favs

Not too bad for a new Ghost Show. Should be called Portal Chasers!
scottmannen111 September 2015
This ghost shows something new and slightly different. Nick Groff from Ghost Adventures basically runs this show so it seems to be fairly well run by an experienced Ghost host. I gave this show a solid 7 because Nicks experience and showmanship is shine through here. Ghost Stalkers, the name itself seems to be a bit lame as far as names go. That being said the show itself seems fairly well done. There are two gentleman on the show and one of them "Chad" has a lot of acting experience having been on Crimnal Minds, X-Files, Buffy, Supernatural and many other shows as a supporting actor. The fact that he is an actor makes me wonder if he is acting on the show as opposed to offering up real life experiences. The locations they visit on the show seem to be unique which is a nice touch. The experiences and investigations seem genuine and scary which is what the viewers want. I think that anyone who enjoys watching Ghost Adventures should find viewing this show pleasurable as well. Fans of Nick Groff won't see him this show as he is now behind the cameras as opposed to being in front. 7/10 worth a watch!

Chad Lindberg's New Role
mllucasml25 May 2015
I used to be a Chad Lindberg fan. I saw him on Supernatural and as a guest on Ghost Adventures and liked the zany characters he portrayed, but was disillusioned when I saw him on Ghost Stalkers. It seems like he developed a new character for this show ... creepy and mono-toned as if no one would ever recognize him from other shows. As unbelievable as his new character is, his tendency to shriek like a little girl at the slightest noise or movement is such a contrast to the new persona that it's laughable. One guest shot on a successful Paranormal show does not qualify you an expert. It would be easier to follow the show if series reviews would be more clear whether it is a comedy, parody, or a reality show. I liked Nick Groff on Ghost Adventures, but if this is the new project he left the show for I'm disappointed.

Could this be parareality TV's next hit?
bps301329 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Ghost Stalkers. Don't let the title dissuade you, as there's a lot to like here.

Right off the bat, production values are solid. The mood is somber and low key, a refreshing change of pace from the "in your face" approach that some paranormal investigation shows take. Also nice was the lack of jump scare cliffhanger nonsense leading into commercial breaks. The process feels matter of fact, academic even. I even like the font choice that they use. The aesthetic is more akin to a classic horror film than a reality show, and it works to this show's favor. The "solo investigator camera" isolation factor is also a fantastic approach, and frankly I'm surprised no one else had thought of it before. Which leads me to the hosts.

Disclaimer: I've known John Tenney since the mid 1990's and he's always impressed me with his infectious need to know the unknowable and understand the unknown as well as his critical thinking skills. I suspect he's always been like that. And while he definitely has a playful, mischievous side to his personality, both in his approach to life and the study of the paranormal, at the end of the day this is something that he takes very seriously. He and I have had many long and spirited discussions regarding the nature of things beyond our capacity to reason, and it's impossible not to respect his wealth of knowledge on all things paranormal as well as his open minded approach to the attempted understanding of various phenomena. I was relieved to see this side of John's personality on display for the show. We don't know what the true nature of hauntings are, or what ghosts and demons really are, and John does an excellent job at avoiding the usual routine of labeling these unexplained forces with trite and perhaps even incorrect categorical markers. His "detective noir" investigative technique is unique and true to his personality, underscored here by his manner of dress. Truly awesome.

Chad on the other hand, while not exactly the weak link, is a bit more suspect in his approach to investigating. I can appreciate his determination to meet his fears head on in order to gain understanding of the unknown, and while his "nervous Nellie" disposition has come under fire, it's actually preferable to the aggro intimidation approach that other ghost show investigators take. It must also be said that Chad is a professional actor, which undermines many of his reactions to what he's experiencing. How can we be certain that it's all legit when he's trained himself to play make believe for a paycheck? In all honesty, we may never know.

Can't comment too much on the tech that David Rountree brings to the location, though I'd think that if a legitimate wormhole/vortex detector (used in the pilot episode) had actually been constructed, it would be put to regular use in various applications, not just the study of haunted houses. His laser grid for Episode Two on the other hand was far more low-tech and yielded some very interesting evidence... more on that in a moment.

Locations. This is where I had the most issues, specifically in the Whispers Estate episode. Take for example the attic where the "vortex" is suspected to extend. In the same corner, there's a small table with a candle holder and a skull. Whether it was set up by the producers of the show or it's an actual fixture of the estate, it's reeks of trying too hard and/or kicking the hornet's nest. The same can be said of some of the decorative choices such as paint color, black drapes, creepy dolls etc. It's a psychological setup that immediately creates the necessary mindset that something is very "wrong" here and dark forces are sure to manifest, because look how creepy this place is. If the owner of the estate would make the effort to make the place at least look normal and the experiences persisted, then we'd really have something interesting. Last thing: Gwen's story of being "pulled through the vortex". No follow up questions about what she saw and experienced? That's a grand claim, and to leave it unresolved is a capital offense for a show of this nature.

The Springfield Hospital episode however was different. Apparently John and Chad were given first run of the place, and while there was plenty of disrepair within the buildings (sometimes at dangerous levels) there was also a refreshing absence of graffiti and "set dressing" that we see in other supposedly haunted locations that are open to the public. The heartbreaking history of the facility and its many buildings provided an emotional backdrop for the investigation, illustrated by the audio evidence captured on multiple cameras. But it's Rountree's laser grid that yields the most compelling evidence of the investigation, suspect though it may seem. We definitely see "something" that breaks the field for a fleeting moment, and if there truly wasn't anyone else in the building, then they indeed captured something remarkable. Due to John's personal veracity, I'm inclined to believe that the footage is legit, but you'll have to see for yourself and decide. It should also be noted that Chad's hysterics reach record highs in this episode, but they serve more as a tension breaker and are relatively harmless. A very strong second episode for a show that already demonstrates strong promise.

All told, Ghost Stalkers gets far more right than it gets wrong, and should be awarded major points for its inspired methodology and refusal to be another cookie cutter paranormal program. Definitely worth a look.

Parody
sf_mike-264-67605820 February 2015
I would not recommend this to anyone who is interested in paranormal investigation shows.

Pros- Production value

Cons- No evidence found All assumptions No playback of evps when they occurred No night vision camera while investigating. They used torches which contaminated all the cameras. No solid method to investigating. Chad's freak outs were too funny to take serious. Why try to find evidence of ghosts if you're afraid of small bangs?

Overall, 1/10.

I would watch it to get your own opinion but from all the reviews on IMDb I just don't get how people can enjoy this

Well done new paranormal show
michele-kubat21 November 2014
I really enjoyed the first season of Ghost Stalkers. John, Chad, and David did a great job. I appreciated the professionalism and respect shown by the whole team. The team investigates theories about the paranormal. In this season, the concept of portals was explored. I thought it was a unique take rather than just walking around and asking if someone is there. The only reason I took off one star was due to some of the apparent editing of the content. After each show airs, John posts behind the scenes information on his web site. Obviously due to time constraints, a significant portion of the day and evening investigation never airs. John has mentioned a number of items that would have been beneficial for the audience to see. Maybe at some point they can do some follow up shows and reveal some of the cut scenes. In the meantime, I would suggest looking up John's website so you can read his behind the scenes comments.

Chad ruined this show!
eveluv-6564111 December 2016
This show would actually have been great if it weren't for Chad. He SUCKS!! He's always scared. You can tell he's faking his reactions (of which he has many). If they could crop him out & just have John on the show, & have someone else narrating it, the show would probably still be on the air. I like the locations they visit & the history of them. It's just Chad. He is acting & his acting is bad, very bad! I wish they would bring the show back, with John & someone else. Someone not so animated & scared of their own shadow (Chad) because that would be great! I know the show has been canceled but they show reruns on TV, which is how I started watching it. I was intrigued from the first episode I watched but the more I watched one thing stood out - annoying Chad! He is the same guy in every episode - the scary cat! Seriously, if you're they scared why are you doing a ghost show?? He should stick to scripted TV shows, like Supernatural.

Would be a really good show
georgia-2189724 October 2015
If you duct taped Chad's mouth when he is in the buildings or just kept him at the camera base outside you would do much better. My husband and I have done photos and voice recordings etc one or two places (We stopped when a kid was giggling inside our car with us as we drove away but it was only husband and me in the car). Anyway, if you are going to screech, scream, jump etc every time you might see, feel or hear something then maybe Chad shouldn't go beyond bird watching or stamp collecting. He destroys the show. I have to say that looking for actual portals are pretty intense and risky. You do have a mix of nerve and stupidity (not meant badly) because a lot can happen that could be bad.

Mood
tiara10514 December 2014
To Me The Show Is Way Dramatic And Too Dramatized. I Feel As If Its For A Comedic Viewing Rather Than Something Serious. Their Whole Mood That The Host Creates Is Rather Rehearsed And Scripted . I Feel Like Maybe If They Didn't Have That Monotone Voice During The Narrative Part, It Would Be More Realistic. Also They Say 'Portal' Way Too Much And Constantly Talking Their Experiences And Blah Blah Blah And I Overall Think That They Were Bored One Day And Sat Around Thinking "Oh, We Need To Do Something To Get Noticed Or Some Type Of Way To Get Our Name Out There So Lets Create A Totally Hoax Show And Get Some People To Spot For Us And Make This Happen." Something To Watch When There's Nothing To Do . You Maybe Get A Good Laugh At Chad Though Lol.

Only worth watching for Chad's freak-outs
rizariakitsune28 November 2014
Made it through three episodes. The evidence is basically non- existent, but the show format itself is fine. Apart from over-use of the word 'portal'.

However, Chad is an absolute scaredy cat. He freaks out like I've never seen anyone freak out before, at the smallest of things.

His style of investigating is pretty terrible. Why ask (scream) for something to bang a door, then freak out, flail and scream bloody murder when something obliges the request? Ridiculous.

I had hoped it would at least have some good stuff to make up for it, but no. Nick Groff would be better off producing something else... and Chad? ...Chad I think needs to stay out of the dark.

A Breath of Fresh Air
vicky-168-91828824 November 2014
Ghost Stalkers breathes new life into the viewer's selection of Ghost haunting reality TV. John Tenney brings his knowledge of ancient civilizations and the scientific angle paired up with co- star Chad Lindberg's raw, dramatic gut reactions to paranormal occurrences going on around him which create an exciting synergy between the two that leaves the viewer wanting more. The show includes less chit chat and more focus on the historical background of each location and its surroundings that may be the cause of its paranormal activity. These two are a strong team of paranormal investigators who make this show a must see for future seasons to come.

Send me to the light! Please!
jd_consult124 October 2015
There are three redeeming qualities to this pseudo-paranormal yarn:

A narrator who delivers a blow by blow description of the haunting in a painful monotone as stiff as Kevin Costner doing a poetry reading.

A spooky soundtrack composed by a three-fingered pianist.

A camera man who makes every shot of a building look like a hideout from "Batman".

Beyond these notables, there is little to recollect from this show. The usual creaks and groans from a condemned building, lights on EMF meters flashing on command, feelings of dread, unintelligible voices, and mysterious scratches on the back (possibly from the pianist). I can't see a reason why this show will survive.

Most genuine ghost show on TV...
JK-WhatsUpWeirdoPodcast21 November 2014
I love this show. I love the perspective, the authenticity, and how much the investigators care. They're not trying to puff up, and be tough, and sensationalize things, they just want real answers, and to have real discussions about these places and what goes on there. The show looks high quality too. And I love the format. You get history, witnesses, then individual investigations by John and Chad, then a casual break down of the events at the end. After a few episodes you will definitely feel like you know and trust these guys. It's a real treat for anyone who loves ghost shows or spooky things. Give it a watch. :) And let's see a Season 2!!

Good idea poorly executed
jlp1958197626 December 2018
I am what I call a "paranormologist" which means I deal with everything considered "paranormal" .. alienology, cryptozoology, parapsychology, paranormal, ufological, metaphysical. etc. and the commentary at the beginning opening of this show held great promise of an new interesting, approach to such an investigative show, then it immediately devolved to a typical "ghost hunting" format. VERY disappointing.

I wouldn't waste my time
bonsaikathy1 January 2016
I'm a fan of paranormal shows. This one is for me the worst of all the shows. It would be OK if not for Chad. His idiotic, over reactions to every little thing get on my nerves something awful. His monologues and trying to talk spooky and in a monotone is annoying to the nth degree.

It would be a good show if they got rid of him. There is a lot of information of the places they are investigating. That part is pretty interesting and enjoyable. Especially if you like visiting historic places. It just doesn't override for me, the irritation Chad brings on. He's just way too annoying. John is much easier to watch and listen to. He does a pretty good job. Save your time, watch a different show.

Warning: Spoilers
I've only recently begun watching these paranormal shows and for all I've seen, this is by far the worst representation of paranormal investigation. Nothing is ever 'proven'; e.g. they may say they saw a spirit or heard a voice but it is rarely, if ever, captured on film or recording and replayed for the viewer. Chad's OTT reactions to his 'encounters' is, as one reviewer stated, laughable. And why is it that Chad has far more encounters than his partner does when each of them spends a night alone in the haunted dwelling? The narration is dry, monotone and boring. If you can watch long enough to get past them speaking, don't hope for anything more than speculation and the quest for portals. They aren't even the least bit interested in connecting with the 'ghosts' they supposedly 'stalk'. IMHO, don't waste your time on this terrible show.

Stolen Valor

Its bad enough these shows are even on. Sometimes I watch them to see the location, it would be better to show the location, tell the history but get these guys to shut. I know these shows are faked, but come on now they employee Super Fakes! This guy should be in jail for what he did. David Rountree on the show is a complete fraud! From who he is, to what he has done. Read this article

Great Show
berkleyandnix21 November 2014
What makes this show different makes all the difference. It feels gritty and real, not like a t.v. show but more like a real investigation. I do wish at times it went more in depth and allowed the viewers to hear more from Chad and John about their thoughts on the places they visit, as there are moments it feels like the network is pulling the strings and making them say certain things. That's not the fault of these two great researchers and their no-holds barred, realistic approach. When Chad gets scared, it's REAL. It takes immense bravery to show that emotion in front of a national audience. He and John are great foils for each other. The locations are fascinating.

More funny than scary
wolfrayet695 February 2015
Being a big fan of everything paranormal I gave this show a shot. I watched all six episodes and did more laughing than anything else. Chad can't seem to control himself, jumping and overacting to the slight sound or movement and John just kinda drowns on and on about how important this or that is and how worried he is about Chad. I was wondering what happened to Nick Groff. I knew he did some horrible music after leaving Ghost Adventures and now this. In all honesty he should have stayed with GA. Hopefully his next project will be a winner. I can't imagine this show will return or that I'll watch, unless I need a good laugh that is.

I love the paranormal and I watch way too many paranormal shows. This show stands apart from the others. John and Chad are actually finding new ways to investigate and to think about hauntings, spirits, and paranormal things that go bump in the night. I do like the real reactions, the complete freak outs, and the screams. It wouldn't pass in a client investigation case, but for what they are doing, it is great. The paranormal field needs people like this to continue exploring new ways to investigate and understand the unknown. This new format of investigating and doing it alone is much more educational and entertaining than most of the other ghost shows. Keep up the good work. Destination America, please renew the show!

cchambers-624338 December 2015
This is makes my list of awful paranormal shows. I can't take it seriously. Anytime something potentially paranormal happens, I'm pretty sure chad pees his pants. He is such a wuss. He is constantly terrified of anything that happens. If you're going to host a paranormal investigation show, then you need to have some balls. Seriously. I laugh every single time. I was shocked when i learned that Nick Groff has a huge part in this show. How do you go from Ghost Adventures to this? YOU'RE BETTER THAN THIS NICK! Just get someone else to do the investigations. please.

On a positive note, his constant fear is great energy for the spirits to feed off of....maybe thats why he's lead investigator? More attention to details and replays of anything documented would be great. There is just not enough. Also, the voice overs chad does are pretty awful. His tone is just bad. I do not recommend this to anyone unless you feel like laughing.
