They Will Respect Me

Agent Carter deserves peoples attention. And if she cant get the respect she deserves from her co-workers, I think she deserves it from her viewers. The show is only a few episodes in now but it's already ten times better than Agents of Shield and Gotham and perhaps nearing my likeness towards Flash. It's just a completely different show and story than what we have seen from Marvel. I love the fact that it's only 8 episodes long, which means we are already almost half way through.

This week we got our first, albeit minimal, glimpse at who is presumably Leviathan but we didn't get the sense as to why he's doing what he's doing. We once again got another great Jarvis & Peggy team up. We even got both of them to open up a bit more which has been one of Peggy's problems, even with her closest friends. Steve Rogers death had a huge emotional impact on her life and most likely tarnished her willingness to get close with anyone. I continue to enjoy the interactions in the Shield office with Carter's many co-workers, though almost none of them actually respect her. I didn't find the final fight to be anything special though. In fact I thought the fight choreography seemed to rely too much on speeding it up to make it look better than what it actually is.

It seems as though next episode we will get an episode dedicated to Carter saving Rogers image. I have to say I have enjoyed this series not mentioning any outside characters that much so although it's probably unnecessary to do a Captain America episode, i'm still pretty excited. As for right now, I'm more thrilled as to how good this show has been through the first few weeks. It's consistently really solid.

On my honor, you can.

What an episode for James D'Arcy's Jarvis. For the first couple of episodes, he seemed like the aloof, comic relief-y partner of Carter but this episode expands on his character and makes him just as compelling as Atwell's Carter.

Two scenes stick out in this episode for Jarvis. The first scene is his interrogation by Agent Thompson, who I'm liking more every episode, as he showed off his interrogation skills without leaving a mark on the suspect. Jarvis, however, gradually went from calm to nervous to angry and I must give D'Arcy kudos for that performance as it naturally evolved in that scene and was very effective to show his loyalty to Stark, his wife and even to Carter. The other scene is his backstory in the sewer, where we learn his love for his wife led him to be arrested. You can see the emotion coming from him through the subtlest details in his tone of voice and facial expressions, and you can understand how he got to be in Stark's service.

Once again, the pacing and writing is spectacular as both sides of the SSR inch closer to the end while having the evidence come to them in a natural, believable way. Atwell was great again with her scenes with D'Arcy and the supporting cast with Sousa, Dooley and Thompson are also enjoyable and interesting. I particularly love Fonseca's Angie as the quirky friend that Carter has that is just a delight to anyone that meets her. The cliffhanger was good as things are starting to unfold with some agents dead, and new enemies emerging.

I had two main problems with this episode. One is that the action wasn't as great as the previous two episodes. The fight between the strongman and Carter was quickly changing from camera to camera so the choreography looked kind of worse. Also I didn't like it how they tried to make us feel bad for Krzeminski because he wasn't likable in any way. He was rude, sexist, kind of stupid and he was cheating on his wife. There wasn't any redeeming quality for him. Carter said he was good at his job when talking about him yet we had no real evidence to support that. Other than that I really liked this episode.

+ D'Arcy's performance + Carter/Jarvis Bond + Writing and Pacing + Supporting cast - Except no sadness over death of one of them - Poor action scenes

Final Score: 8.4/10

3 episodes in and near nothing

An unimpressive episode with some adventures and 40s look. The acting is good, the flow is above-average, but aim and purpose nearly nowhere to be seen. Sets of scenes and that's it. It looks like developing but it isn't.

Some actions, a little fun and some emotional moments are not development. Let's see what the fourth episode brings to the table.
