Not Every Hero Wears a Mask

All seems pretty good with this show. The mid-season premier was average but the show is still exciting. Everything seemed fine with Team Flash until Pied Piper came along. I enjoyed Piper for a good part of the episode, even though this Particle Accelerator villain of the week is starting to get tiresome.

Piper was out for revenge on Wells for outing him at STAR labs before the explosion happened. His first attack came at Wells' home, which surprisingly is the first time we have seen it. I'm glad they didn't spoil the scene with Wells using his powers for the first time on a promo for the episode. I think Arrow and Flash are culprits of giving a little bit too much away week to week on their previews. So props to CW this time around. Speaking of powers, I thought all the effects this week looked great. Last week the 'gun' fight looked cheesy and CGI heavy but I loved the subtle speed effects this week.

Iris got a new job this week, but I'm sorry CW, her scenes are still uninteresting. It seems as though while Iris falls further down my list of interesting characters, Caitlin jumps higher. I have been of Panabaker's portrayal and this week she once again stood out. So even with a few botches, the CW continues to write strong female leads. Back to Piper, I thought his intentions were different than past Flash villains, but there a few too many stupid and predictable moments. Didn't we all know that if he gets caught 20 minutes into the episode, he's probably not actually done for the night? I have grown tired of the villains planning to get caught every time.

I really enjoyed the team dynamic this week though. The team selfie was a simple but really important moment, especially considering Wells now has a picture of the team he will likely betray in the future. Even with as sketchy as Wells is, they are giving us more material to care for him and his relationship with the crew. Plus, Wells' "I failed this city" line was a great Arrow nod. Cisco had his usual great lines including "I assign the nicknames around here" or even his Han shot first t-shirt was a cool addition. I mean who doesn't love a Star Wars reference in a superhero universe? So while this week didn't particularly further any ongoing story, it was an enjoyable ride.

+Wells centric episode

+Team Flash moments

+Brief Royal Flush cameo

+Cisco continues to be the most likable character

-Piper's typical arc

-Find a new way to originate a villain

Once again, 'The Flash' keeps topping itself. This time we get a strong villain who not only has a cool "power", he has a strong personal connection to the team at S.T.A.R. Labs. The true nature of Dr. Wells is again *almost* revealed, and the teasing is starting to grate just a tad, but it's used to good effect here.

As always, we have a theme, and this time it's about how our heroes can disappoint us. Barry has his usual arc, learns a lesson and has a heart to heart with Joe that had me in tears.

All in all another strong episode, with future implications that left me wanting more.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Sound and the Fury

An old enemy named the Pied Piper returns with vengeance as he knows Wells's secret. After the lackluster previous episode, this is one I really love! Sure, Pied Piper is an awesome villain with an awesome introduction. Sure, the flashbacks are great. Sure, it creates more mystery surrounding "Wells". And sure, Cisco has some funny moments as well. But the reason I love this episode has to do with the amount of times they've gone back to it. This episode feels like one of the most important because the plots of both 2x17 and 6x18 revolve around this one! In Season 2 Episode 17 "Flash Back" they full on travel back to this episode, making it feel timeless! It's a great episode that has aged extremely well! 8.6/10!
