Excellent, well-detailed interview with director Eckhart Schmidt who talks about his career and the making of his controversial 1982 film DER FAN. Schmidt starts off talking about how he got interested in making movies and why he has a strong love of all arts. From here he talks about working for a music magazine, which is where he originally got the idea for DER FAN. From here we learn about the pre-production, the production and of course the controversial post-production that includes his star taking him to court to try and have two scenes taken out of the movie. Fans of the director or DER FAN are really going to enjoy this documentary because he covers quite a bit of territory. At just under twenty-minutes we get a pretty good idea of what the director was trying to do with the film including a couple subtexts dealing with Hitler and God. The most interesting stuff deals with Desiree Nosbusch taking him and the film to court.
