Skinned changed my life!
urbanhomeent13 October 2015
I love this film, but you have to see it for yourself! NO spoilers but here's a bit of info: "Skinned" follows a young woman named Jolie, played by Jasmine Burke, who is tormented in school for being darker complected. And I mean really tormented. There was one particular moment that was especially jarring. As a result, when she gets older Jolie decides to bleach her skin "in an attempt to capture the heart of the perfect suitor…" The bleaching also leads to the detriment of her health. The serious detriment.

Now that Jolie is married, she's learned that thanks to the chemicals found in her skin bleaching cream she can not conceive children and she has skin cancer… and has six months left to live.

Changed, my, life.

The dangers of skin bleaching
leteciajohnson13 October 2015
A lot of Black American and African women (men are not isolated as they are bleaching their skin too). To cover up what they do in Senegal the term is "khessal" oppose to Skin Bleaching because that is too controversial of a term to use — either way #light skin seems to be the right skin if you're darker. Jasmine Burke's (Jolie) character feels the need to fit in, find a boyfriend (because most men want lighter or fair skin complexion women), so she finally gets her happy lighter life to she can't have babies because of the Skin Cream and now has a terminal illness. Jolie (Jasmine Burke's) character associates lighter with doing better in life because society associates dark skin with ugly, and sadly many girls like Jasmine Burke's character have to deal with different kinds of negativity.

Ms.McCoy thank you so much I give it a thousand stars. This need to be on the big screen where everyone can see it in schools as well.

I hope one day I will get the opportunity to share my life story and the things that I went through on the big screen just as you have done in sharing this story. Ms.Mcoy because of you and see this move I now can pick up my pen again and start back on writing my life story and not feel shame to tell the world.
