Returning to filmmaking after 2016 and “V.I.P. “, Lee Won-suk comes up with a completely different approach than both the aforementioned and its predecessor, “The Royal Tailor”. “Killing Romance” is a truly flamboyant comedy in a style that reminds of both of a fairy tale and Nobuhiko Obayashi's last works, also because it manages to “hide” a number of pointed comments about the entertainment industry under its impressive visuals and overall “silliness”. Let us take things from the beginning, though.
Killing Romance is screening at New York Asian Film Festival

Streaming services Paramount+ and Tving have greenlighted two new jointly-developed Korean TV series. They are the product of an ongoing relationship between parent companies Paramount Global and Korea’s Cj Enm.
They are action thriller “A Bloody Lucky Day” and period drama “Queen Woo.”
Korean TV content has been a growth vector for international and regional streaming platforms in Asia. Competition for new originals is fierce and expensive, but Korean drama and increasingly, unscripted shows, continues to attract critical and commercial kudos.
Paramount+ said that new Korean drama series “Yonder” has been the most-watched international show in the U.S. in its first week of availability (since Aprile 11). Its upcoming Korean series “Bargain” earned the best screenplay award at Canneseries on Wednesday and will upload in summer this year.
“A Bloody Lucky Day” follows an ordinary taxi driver who becomes entangled with a customer that turns out to be a serial killer.

“Good Neighbour” is a project worth looking out for two big reasons. One: it is the return of actor Oh Dal-su. The once much-loved actor fell sharply from grace when his name came up in the early days of the #metoo movement in Korea. All projects featuring the actor had since been shelved or dropped, including this one. However, the court cleared him of all wrongdoings last year and fans have been looking forward to his comeback to the big screen. The second reason “Good Neighbour” should jump up everybody’s anticipated films list is that it is also the return of director Lee Hwan-kyung, whose last film seven years ago was the smash-hit and still highly popular “Miracle in Cell No. 7”. Excited now? I bet you are!

Major local film titles are beginning to appear on the Korean releasing schedule as Covid-19 retreats and the peak summer season approaches.
Since Korean cinemas began reopening earlier this month, cinemas schedules have relied heavily on re-runs, mixed with a handful of foreign, smaller new releases. That is about to change.
Since the coronavirus ran rampant from February, local distribution giants Cj Entertainment, Lotte and Showbox canceled or postponed dozens of theatrical outings. “Time to Hunt” was rescheduled multiple times and then switched to a straight to streaming release via Netflix. The pattern was repeated in May.
What has changed is the retreat of the virus threat, effective social distancing measure sin cinemas and the arrival of the summer season, which is traditionally a peak period, especially for genre and horror. That’s because school is out and audiences retreat into theaters to escape the heat.

"Can we really live?" "We have to make sure we do." Lotte Ent. has unveiled a teaser trailer for the Korean zombie thriller titled #Alive, yes including the hashtag. The rapid spread of an unknown infection has left an entire city in ungovernable chaos, but one survivor remains alive in isolation. That synopsis sounds a lot like a pandemic virus thriller, but it's really about zombies. After locking himself into his apartment alone, a neighbor across the street finds him. This trailer sets up that part of the film - the rest is them struggling to survive in isolation. This stars Yoo Ah-In (from Burning) and Park Shin-Hye (from The Royal Tailor). There's not too much in this trailer, but what they do show us looks awesome. A gnarly updated twist on the stuck-inside thriller with an apartment complex as a playground. Click the [cc] button for English subtitles. Here's the...
