The title explains the topic of this episode: Going nuclear.
The gang finds themselves dealing with nuclear radiation. However, that is also where things get weird. So far in the show, most things seem to follow the same laws of nature that we have in the real world. Yet in this episode these rules don't seem to apply as much.
The first example: Zombies have gotten themselves irradiated. The zombies are then fought up close and personal. As soon as the gang enters a building, they are ancountered by glowing zombies. The gang is then joined by two locals that warn them not to touch any of them, as it would mean certain death by radiation poisoning. At which point 10K finds himself struggling hand to hand with one of them. Of course, this would mean his certain death. But in the very next scene the gang gets checked with a geiger counter and the local man, named Wilbur, tells them all they are safe from exposure. (WHAT?) Even crazier, the geiger counter rattles with ticks, a sign of high radiation.
The next problem occurs when the gang decides to stop the power plant from melting down. Wilbur is already lethally exposed and volunteers to go inside to manually stop he meltdown. The gang offers assistance and he explains his plan. WIlbur tells them that they are safe for no more than 2 minutes, and only outside the containment building. They run around the area, go inside(REALLY??) and really take their time too. To emphasise the "no touching" warning, it is now repeated, with the added warning that a hug would mean death in minutes. Judging by all the following running, fighting and ground covered, they must be inside for at least 15 minutes. And during this, they figth up close and personal. Doc using his tire iron, getting splattered in highly radioactive blood, Roberta is fighting with a machete, stabbing them in the gut(WHY even risk that), slicing necks(Zombies die from this now too apparently...) and Cassandra fights with a shovel(badly). At one point she even struggles(Read nearly hugs) with a Z, and kicks him down a ramp. (Her leg is probably melting off by now)
Suffice to say, it continues on the entire episode like this and nothing is the matter. There is simply no way to justify any of it and it really is just very annoying to watch.
If only the acting wasn't anything more than unconvincingly poor or mediocreat rare moments, it might have been somewhat acceptable. But unfortunately, the only good actor is Russel Hogdkinson, and Michael Welsh and perhaps to a lesser degree, Keith Allen. The better actors have been killed of at the start of the show. (Tom Everett Scott and Harold Perrineau)
By the end of the episode we will have seen 10K enter the radiation chamber without dying or even getting sick, Murphy will have crashed in a plane without even getting more than a headache and the gang will decide to not administer mercy to the other local, the pilot Amelia(fun name to pick) just because Murphy says so. Then, they won't even explore the plotline they have just established with Amelia the Z, following and mimicking Murphy.
The episode ends with an empty and unnessesary goodbye.
