In the comics, Vanessa Marianna became the wife of Wilson Fisk, The Kingpin. This show features her background and history, which was never explored before.
Behind the desk of the journalist Ben Urich also appears a page of the newspaper that speaks of the battle of the Hulk with the Abomination in The Incredible Hulk (2008). The title is "Harlem Terror" and the subtitle is "Hulk emerges victorious in destruction uptown battle".
This is Ayelet Zurer's second comic-book feature; she had earlier played Superman's birthmother, Lara Lor-Van, in Man of Steel (2013).
Across the hall from Nelson & Murdock is a company called Atlas Investments, a nod to Atlas Comics, the origins name of the company that became Marvel Comics. Also, on the door under Nelson & Murdock's paper sign is the name of the previous tenant Van Lunt, possibly a nod to Cornelius Van Lunt, a businessman and professional criminal mastermind who became the villain Taurus in Marvel Comics.
