On board the station something is amiss. A group of mercenaries are involved in rounding up and subjecting them to something horrible. It appears to be genocide which can then be blamed on someone else. Julie was the body found in the previous episode and she is filled with the results of that bio-weapon. Holden and Miller are off on their own, separated from the rest. They make a discovery which has a devastating possibility.

The backstory of one of the most worthless characters ever
bnevs1811 April 2024
You know, if they wanna keep this whole "Save the girl, save the world" thing going, can they at least make the girl a little less...worthless? Its ok to use someone as a conduit to backstory, but the whole "annoyingly useless" hot girl thing is more than played out.
Also, the whole thing of Miller falling in love with her sight unseen and the whole linking of the Miller and Roci storylines is REALLY convoluted...so they both join up in the middle of a firefight where they really should be shooting at each other?
So why is it a 7? Well, its the culmination of plotthreads of one of the greatest shows ever...it just should have been a 10 the way theyve been hyping Mao.

Interesting first part to a two part finale

Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.
The Expanse's ninth episode of the first season is entitled 'Critical Mass'. The episode picks up at the beginning of the entire Julie Mao arc where she became infected by the unknown biohazard on the Anubis. The episode follows Miller and the Rocinante crew as they track down the source of the mystery once and for all.
The ninth episode is a great episode. This episode is the culmination of many arcs and is a revelation for any audience members that were interested in Miller's arc. This episode made for a satisfying conclusion as well as an open end to how the conspirators are using the bioweapon. The episode does not have any solid answers but there are answers that are insinuated by the events in the episode.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Holden and Miller delving deeper into the Eros station to uncover the mystery. They receive a deadly dose of radiation with the Eros station locking down.
I would recommend the penultimate episode of The Expanse's first season.
Grade: B.
