An excellent episode.

This is a great episode of Vera, it's a very unique story, with a clever, complex plot, great characters, and some fine performances.

You need to concentrate, as at times it seems to move off into different directions, adding new characters, and new avenues.

Vera is on great form, more restrained at times, she has sensitivity throughout this episode. Kenny once again has some great lines.

Mark Womack and Mark Bonnar are both excellent in particular, but it's Velibor Topic who's the star of the show.

Intriguing and thoroughly engaging. 9/10

Vera and her keen powers of observation.
blanche-218 January 2016
Have to say I enjoyed the first review here, "Different but PC" very much, as the reviewer describes all the different minorities and physically challenged who appeared in this episode.

DCI Vera Stanhope investigates that death of a man found in a slurry pit on a farm owned by Danny Pryor. It is found that he was strangled before being weighted down and thrown in.

When Vera sees that the man had a tattoo removed, a Romani one, she turns her investigation toward a Kosovoan worker, Goran Vlasic, who works on the Pryor farm. The head of the "travelers" identifies the man as Jack Reeves. Reeves is estranged from his parents, who didn't seem to know he was living in the area.

Then another migrant farm worker is killed. It seems to Vera that all the action centers on the farm.

Very good episode, and a poignant one, with Vera unaggressively asking very important questions and calling people "pet." The acting is terrific, with a standout performance by Jennifer Hennessey, as Jack Reeves' mother.

Brenda Blethyn really becomes Vera, so much so that it's hard to imagine her doing anything else. But of course she has, and brilliantly.

One of the best

Vera is one of the best murder mysteries to be seen. Like so many other British mystery programs the stories are asinine and wonderfully crafted. I can not say often enough how watching these programs shows beyond a shadow of a doubt how much better the characters, and more so the actors themselves, outshine any which America might attempt. Characters are very real, believable. This is what got me to write this review. There are very special actors in each and every episode. This episode, Jennifer Hennessy truly shines in her craft.

Muddy Waters is certainly a must-see episode. Vera? How can you not love this no-nonsense woman? Just delightful in the way she gets sh.. things done. Already looking forward to the next episode.

Go get 'em Vera and team!

A fine episode of Vera

Warning: Spoilers
A fine episode of Vera, and congratulations to the producers for the top-notch casting. Vera is very down to earth (I love how she eats chips while working on a case at night), but also very sharp in her investigation skills - nothing gets past Vera as she and her team traipse the countryside to find the killer of a guy found in a slurry pit.

The ending was a major twist, and I never saw it coming.

I agree this episode is, to quote a reviewer, "very PC good for those who favor certain groups." Assuming PC means politically correct, I would have rated this episode 11 out of 10 if it included 1. a heterosexual male Celt, 2. a heterosexual male Insular Celt, 3. a heterosexual male Continental Celt, 4. a heterosexual male Irish speaking Irish, 5. a heterosexual Male Irish speaking Gaelic, 6. a heterosexual Male Welsh speaking Cornish. Now that would be very, very PC. Also to cap things off, maybe we can have a Vera episode focusing on the production of a behind the scenes of revival of The Black and White Minstrel-type variety show.

With Brexit and the US election capping off 2016, maybe the writers will prevail with the new winds.

Great family feuding

Another strong episode with good writing, dark humour and ticking the boxes for P.C. lovers. Full of the usual twists, turn and red herrings, Vera final fishes out the truth.
