"the two men behind me happen to be paramedics" (dialog, Red)

Its Season 2 and the honeymoon is over. Gravity starts to influence objects in motion. Also scripts.

The production team, after a spectacular first season (except possibly for the finale, which I reviewed individually) has to learn, as must all producers of episodic TV, to juggle a number of plates at the same time without breaking any.

This means introducing a new villain every week yet keeping the background arc interesting.

Not an easy task.

But so far they are doing just fine. The episode is crisp and compelling. The characters continue to develop.

Boone seems to have new H&M (hair and makeup). She looks great. She also gets to punch her character to new levels, more active than passive in this season. Kudos.

As was the case with the epic HOUSE, the joy in each episode is now the delivery by Spader of key lines that only his character could ever manage with aplomb. Like the restaurant scene where a reluctant associate is encouraged by Red to be more forthcoming .. during a heart attack.

Casting in episodic TV has become something of an art form and it is nice to see Paul Reubens playing a foppish baddie. Nicely done.

Rent-an-Organ
Hitchcoc8 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The title says it all. People pay big money for black market hearts and lungs and so on, but they only rent them. If they can't keep up the payments, their organs are repossessed. Of course, the bigger picture involves Red and the shortage of organs for those who need them. Once again, Berlin is out there somewhere and the gang has to wad through Red's quagmire of obfuscation. We are just getting to know some of the new people for the second season. Red's wife is out there. And she is pissed. Liz is still conflicted with the hard-assed role of the FBI versus human issues. We are also set up for a new guy with a big gun. She is so clueless sometimes and admits to him that she is a special agent.

Seriously?

Warning: Spoilers
Easily the worst episode yet... once the story went to a "donor rental" angle I laughed out loud. The interrogation with the wife was borderline ridiculous. In the end the surgeon wasn't even a devious killer. It would have been much better to have left out the kid angle. There wasn't any drama- let the guy operate and save the kid. Was it really that hard of a choice? Then at the end he was more about a corrupt system vs. a organ taking criminal- we actually had a little sympathy for him instead of joy of catching the bad guy in the end.

Then it's starting to become a bit predictable. My wife & I both called the twist to Red and the mole. The only saving grace was Paul Rubin- great character. The good news? Even at its worst the Blacklist is still a must watch and is still entertaining.

Terrible Episode, almost ruins an excellent series..
dgilmartin-119 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Point 1: $500k per year to rent vital organs... The wife said when the business was booming it was nothing to them, why not pay 10 years ahead??

Point 2: Keen and Ressler chase a sportsbike down on foot, as soon as the bike crashes the two agents are instantly there.

Point 3: Berlin was an unknown for years, suddenly he's involved in everything and everybody's discussing him like he's the king of the world.

Point 4: Covington's character was a joke.

Point 5: Keep watching. The blacklist goes back to being awesome after this disappointment.
