Interesting, but not sure about the longevity of it.

I just finished seeing the pilot. It's OK. Mena Suvari plays a doctor who is brought to some hospital to deal with kids who are falling victim to what appears to be serious seizures. At first, she thinks it's just in their minds, but later admits that she was wrong. As the episode went on, it got more intense. This would be good material for a 2-4 hr miniseries. I don't know how good it would be for a full series though.

The only reason I watched it was because I like Mena Suvari, and she's been in so few things, but I think she should be in more things because she's a very fine actress. I found the pilot to be OK, but I don't know how they'll keep the interest of an audience for multiple seasons if Amazon decides to actually pick this up as a full-fledged series. I saw The After - another Amazon show that's actually being developed into a series - and that was fun and interesting. I can see how that can last, but this...I'm not sure. However, I think it's unfair to judge a series based on the pilot. Very few series pilots can keep the interest of the audience. Heck, 24 used to give 2 nights of 2-hour episodes, thus getting the first 4 hours out of the way so the audience could get into the story. If this is picked up, I'll watch it because Suvari's in it, but I don't know for how long she'll be able to keep me watching. I guess we'll see. There is a slight nude scene with Mena, but you don't really see anything. She's lying on her bed, totally naked, but she's curled, lying on her side, so you see a naked profile, but that's it.

I gave this a 6-star rating because it does have the possibility of potential. Another reason was because of the build up of tension. Just the fact that Mena's in it, it deserves at least 5-stars for that very reason. lol.

Boring and Lame

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT: Supposed to be some kind of take on the Salem Witch trials, but it's badly done. The writing is very poor, lame plot devices, long pauses with people staring off into space, not clear about the relationship of the characters leaving the viewers to figure it out. A couple teens having seizures becomes a national panic requiring a press conference. Huh? Since when would that be even in the news?

If Amazon wants to compete with Netflix, they're going to have to do a lot better than this. (FYI writers of Hysteria: Hysteria and Conversion Disorder are not the same conditions. Might want to consult with a medical expert before you do a show about a medical/mental condition.)
