Unpredictable Fate
claudio_carvalho22 January 2019
Eichhorst is double-crossed by Palmer and Setrakian wins the auction with a better bid. He ambushes with a horde of vampires the van of Fet and Setrakian on his way back home, but Gus, Angel and Quinlan arrive with the army and Fet and Setrakian flee. The Master kills Coco to retaliate Palmer´s betrayal. Eph, Nora and Zach take the last train to Washington, but they are attacked by Kelly and a horde of vampires. When Nora is ready to destroy Kelly, Zach interferes and something bad happens.

"The Night Train" shows the unpredictable fate of an important character. When will this annoying character Zach die? This spoiled boy is irritating and the ham actor is awful. The Master will certainly have another enemy, Palmer, who saw his beloved girlfriend killed by the powerful vampire. Fet and Setrakian provisionally teaming up with Gus, Angel and Quinlan is promising for the next season. The "animal" processing facility built by Eichhorst is a mystery. My vote is eight.

Zach...
kevinbodnar-0445221 February 2023
Ok.

I know it sounds bad and wrong and everything that is unholy.

But..

If Zach was my son, I would seriously consider tossing him under a train or off a bridge.

I know that kids think differently, that's fine. Bur he is outright idiotic. I mean his mother was a math teacher (presumably), his father is a virologist. He is supposed to be t least somewhat intelligent.

But all his actions through the first two seasons. Are either idiotic or plain stupid.

Don't misunderstand me, I appreciate a character when their motivaations move the plot and cause "havoc". But Zach's motivations are rooted in being a moron. No real agenda, simply being an a..hole.

That's not an understandable character, sorry.

A brilliant finale held back yet again
alecthecracker5 October 2015
Most everything about this episode was brilliant. I thought the character arcs were well handled, and seeing my favorite character Quinlan being a bad-ass again was awesome. The only thing that I couldn't stand, that bothered me the entire season, was how bad an actor Max Charles is. At some points in the season, when he should have been crying, it looked like he was about to laugh or smile. His range is nonexistent; between overacting and underacting scenes, he just can't get it right. Im so very disappointed the producer cut Ben Hyland, who is a much more talented actor, for this nobody who can't act for his life. Nepotism must be to blame. His poor acting in this episode really ruined a lot of scenes, especially one high stakes scene that he completely mishandled. Overall, they need to recast that character, whether or not that means giving it back to Ben Hyland or picking someone new and talented.

Action Galore

Warning: Spoilers
This is the episode I was waiting all season for. Way more action than usual. This episode had the most vamps ever - tongues were flying all over the place. Would somebody, anybody please kill off the character of Zach? Cut his head off too, so he can't come back. It's not the actor's fault, but his role has to be the MOST annoying character in any television drama this year. I was somewhat disappointed with Mr. Quinlan, the great vampire who works directly for The Ancients; he was literally right in front of Eichorst and could't seem to catch up to him. Vamp caffeine needed? I expected Eichorst to die right there, but he outmaneuvers the bullets his counterpart, Quinlan, shoots at him and runs out of sight. It seems like the great hunter is somewhat overmatched here.

A quiet finale
anselmdaniel12 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

The season 2 finale follows the heroes as they try to leave New York and decode the Occido Lumen. Eichorst has notified his master of Eldritch's betrayal from last episode. Eph seeks to get his son out of New York City in one of the last trains leaving the infected city.

This finale is not incredibly eventful. The finale is more of a recap to what the last few episodes had. The only thing of note that happens is Coco Marchand dies as a result of Eldritch's actions. This plants some seeds of doubt as he begins to fight against The Master. Setrakian seeks to decode the Occido Lumen with help from his disciples.

The big event in this episode is Nora's death at the hands of Kelly Goodweather. This even was interesting. The vampires cause a train to derail and Nora and Zach are left to try to escape. The problem with this scene is that Nora's death is because of Zach. The season never made Zach to be a likable character and because of this action, Zach is one of the most hated characters. The scene did feel touching when Nora and Eph made their last goodbyes.

Overall, this is a forgettable finale with a decent last scene. I would recommend the episode only for hardcore fans.

Grade: B

The Strain Season Two

The Strain season two picks up where the first season left off. The Master has been wounded by the heroes during a raid. The vampires are wounded but not destroyed as more people are infected in New York City. The heroes find themselves struggling as more people become infected by the strigoi. Meanwhile a city councilwoman is leading a charge to establish safe zones around New York. Kelly, who was infected in the first season, has regained her memories and is now driven to a mission to kidnap Zach.

The Strain season two has a grander scope than the first season. This is one of the good aspects of the second season as the series likes to offer backstory and character histories that can be interesting and engaging. More characters are introduced in the second season and the series takes its time to develop. This can be frustrating at times when the season explores Gus more. His character and story became weaker with Vaun's death. The series continues to focus on his mother even when she is turned and The Master taunts him through her. Gus' character is fine, but his story did not feel as engaging as the main story with Eph, Fet, Setrakian, Dutch, and Nora. With the grander scope, comes a higher budget as the television series puts more actors on display. More of New York's police department come up against the vampires which allows cool scenes such as the defense of Red Hook. Likewise with the vampires, Eichorst and Kelly are explored in more detail. The show focuses the bulk of some episodes on them. Kelly Goodweather is adapting to her new vampiric condition as she seeks her child. Eichorst's Nazi history is explored as he is the focus of one episode where his pre-Nazi past is shown. These scenes were cool even when they slowed down the main story.

The main arc of the season is the characters trying to research and acquire the Occido Lumen. The series is at its best as the characters try to find the best way to defeat The Master. Although I did not like the concept of the Occido Lumen, I found the execution to be good. The characters have all of their personalities from the first season. The actors and actresses do a fine job. The concept allowed all of these characters to interact more organically which is always something positive.

I would recommend The Strain season two. The series takes a grander scope while still retaining a grounded feel.

Great Way to End Season Two [9/10]

Warning: Spoilers
Reaction / Review for The Strain Season 2 Episode 13 ''The Night Train'' (S2. E13) Season Finale: Episode 12 was amazing and I gave it a rating of 9/10. What kind of animal are you gonna be processing here? Sheep! Hahaha. Eichorst is the best. The relationship between Palmer and Coco is disgusting. Does this mean Zach is gone? Please, please, please. Kelly is back? Quinlan being bad-ass as always. Finally Setrakian has the Lumen, let's see what he does with it. Oh boy it's a trap! Gus and his men join the party. Quinlan vs Eichorst, nice. Oh boy its a trap, they will get inside the train. The Master kills Coco? Im so happy about that. I just wanted Zach to leave, does that mean he stays? That sucks. So Kelly was behind all this. And just like that Nora is gone and its all because of Zack of course, that sucks. Nora's death was very tragic and emotional. Overall an amazing episode and great way to end the season. My rating is 9/10.

Zach. Help us all.
jayd15643 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Decent season ending with probably the best episode yet. Lots of action and the death of a main character at the end. Too bad this character had to die because of that insufferable little miserable kid. His acting is just plain awful and his mood swings just don't make sense. His best scenes are the ones where he doesn't speak.....Please kill off Zach in the third season. It will be interesting to see where Gus' character ends up as I'm not quite sure of him yet. He can be a bit annoying with the tough guy act. Overall season two was an improvement over season one. Hopefully season three sees the seemingly invincible Eichorst get whacked, Zach falls off a very very tall bridge, and Fet and Dutch hook back up. It will be interesting to see what direction this show takes.....it could be much, much better.
